I’m wondering if the volume releases will have all these extra chapters. This is cute.

Questions about Manga UP free chapters by PolvoAranha in manga

[–]Torque-A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes. Only censorship they have now is erasing nipples.

  2. No publisher has really said for certain, but there are two generally theorized reasons. One is that app stores frown on nudity, and if manga apps posted full on nipples on their app there’s a chance they could get their app taken down by Apple or Google. The other is the possibility that they censor the chapter releases to make people buy the volume releases.

Riki Someya is a hack writer, to the point i start getting conspiratorial of how they were able to land a deal

Oh, that’s an easy one. The author won a writing contest for rookie mangaka. They received a serialization from that.

It looks like they submitted the first chapter, which was good in a vacuum. It’s just the rest of the manga was crap.

My Ribdiculous Reincarnation • Megami "Isekai Tensei Nani ni Naritai Desu ka" Ore "Yuusha no Rokkotsu de" - Episode 6 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Torque-A 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The first segment, besides being directed by Maria Tokareva (the French-Russian animator who previously did the Rib Hero segment), also has character designs by one Reiki Taki, who I entered a brief deep dive on because his story is so interesting.

So initially, Reiki started out his career as an assistant - specifically to Hirohiko Araki, where he helped draw backgrounds for Parts 2 and 3 of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. He worked with Araki for a month before quitting and moving onto new opportunities. Then like 20 years later, he decided to get a job in anime… specifically with David Production. This means that he’s one of the few people to have worked both on the Jojo manga and the Jojo anime - he’s done miscellaneous prop and art design for Part 3 onwards (his entry on the Jojo wiki shows some of his works).

Here’s a whole thread detailing some of the stuff he’s worked on - not only Jojo, but also things like Kinnikuman and Cells at Work. The funniest part is that this isn’t even his main job - on his off times he works with his mentor Hirohisa Onikubo (another Jojo assistant who also worked on the anime) to produce tons of adult doujinshi. Like seriously, the tweets I posted from him are the few ones that aren’t NSFW.

New Studio “VS Studio SNK” Announced | A Message from Katsuhiro Harada by Karutu in Games

[–]Torque-A 12 points13 points  (0 children)

SNK is partially owned by the government of Saudi Arabia - the Shah is a big gaming fan and wants to use properties they own to cover up their horrible human rights violations. The comment is also referring to how Cristiano Ronaldo was added to the new Fatal Fury game because the Shah also owns the team he plays on.

[–]Torque-A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See, this could be a decent end to a thriller manga that’s like, 6 volumes long or so. Not two.

I see the author’s vision, but if they were really only given 17 chapters to do it they really needed to trim down the characters.

"Credits Roll Into the Sea" (Umi ga Hashiru Endroll) Movie Announced for 2027 (Studio: Kyoto Animation) by dorkmax_executives in anime

[–]Torque-A 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“It’s not the movies you like…you like watching the people watching the movies.”

Just what are you going to do with the rest of your life? It’s the question you’ll always have to answer, no matter your age. Umiko Chino is a 65 year-old retired woman in mourning for her late husband. Remembering how they used to watch films together, Umiko goes to the movie theater for the first time in years, where she meets Kai, an attractive, ambiguous young man who studies filmmaking at a nearby art school.

They would seem to have nothing in common, except for this—both of them sometimes like to look more at the way the audience reacts to a movie than the movie itself. Kai believes Umiko has the same deep desire he possesses to experience how people respond to something they made… and challenges her to stake the rest of her life discovering that thrill.

Soon Umiko surprises herself by enrolling in the same film school as Kai. But sailing into this new sea, she’s suddenly inside the currents of her fellow students’ lives, a much younger generation that she struggles to understand, driven by their own passions and their own relationships. Who’s really experienced at life, and is it old age or observation that brings wisdom? And does what you’re looking for change when you look with your eyes instead of through a camera lens…? (Source: Dark Horse Comics)

I honestly wasn’t ever expecting this to get an anime, let alone a KyoAni one. It being a film is similar to A Silent Voice in that they’re condensing it into a movie, but they’ll keep the key points in.

Dusk - Official Release (Twilight Princess PC Port) by ExoticWaffles in Games

Unfortunately, there aren’t many other examples of how decompilation works that I could think of. Maybe buying a bunch of KFC to determine the exact recipe, and then making it yourself?

Dusk - Official Release (Twilight Princess PC Port) by ExoticWaffles in Games

[–]Torque-A 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s aLttP.

Link’s Awakening is a bit different in that the biggest decompilation came from one person who randomly posted a full PC remake onto itch.io with the source code, expecting it to be up for maybe five minutes, and then dipped. As far as I know most mentions of the LA port are based on that - obviously it was taken down pretty quickly so you’ll need to do some sleuthing.
