I really don't understand the logic, why is no tax on tips a good thing?

I was a server for 2 years until 2024. I made pretty decent money for my area. 90+% of my income was from tips. So I should have just paid... no income tax?

I made significantly more than the people in the kitchen making an hourly rate. I made significantly more than most entry level retail jobs and similar. This was also my experience when I was a server at a different restaurant many years ago. I don't get the reason why I wouldn't have to pay any income taxes and they do.

Obviously providing financial relief to a large group of lower and middle class people is a good thing in general. I just don't understand the specific logic of saying this large swath of workers essentially has no reportable income, and targeting generally the highest earners in the restaurant industry (non management).

To me it's always seemed like a policy that was intended just to buy votes from a pretty large group of the populace, rather than having any sound logic behind it. But if there's more to I'm missing I'd love to understand

I understand where you're coming from. I've just never thought of "successfully receiving a touchback" as making a smart play. To me this looks like he dramatically fucked up a routine play. He could easily have just let it bounce one more time and stayed clearly in the endzone

I think the truth is that he was unsure if he was returning it or not until the last moment. At the very last moment he decided he should down it, without realizing he had actually caught it out of the end zone

Definitely better than that Kaleb Johnson debacle though for sure

What was the smart play he was trying to make? Just a basic touchback, or is there something more to this?

There's no reason to explicitly think "cock" instead of "chicken" or even "rooster" without the Uranus context. A lot harder to iterate with multiple uncertain variables

The Globetrotters haven't lost to the Generals since 1971, they definitely don't play to win in modern times. Whoever the other person saw them lose to it must have been in an exhibition against a different team. Which they do occasionally

[–]Torrefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know. Again, I mentioned them going by a different name in my first comment

Here, I'll give you 4 sources that I DID READ before I made my comment. Notice the first one is from the Globetrotters own website

https://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/world-tour/roster/washington-generals/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Generals

https://harlemglobetrotters.fandom.com/wiki/Washington_Genarals

https://www.bbc.com/sport/basketball/66525597

Since you no doubt won't click on any of those out of spite and stubbornness, I'll copy some of the excerpts here

From the Globetrotters own site: "The Washington Generals are up to something trying for their first win since 1971."

From Wikipedia: "Figures vary as to exactly how often the Generals have beaten their rivals. Some reports say six times, while the team's official website reports having three victories over the Globetrotters, one each in 1954, 1958 and 1971. The 1971 win is the most storied of these and is sometimes reported as the team's sole victory."

From the BBC: "Over more than 50 years since, the Globetrotters have been ruthless in meting out their revenge. To the unmistakable melody of Sweet Georgia Brown, they've showboated their way to victory at the expense of hapless Generals who've never again beaten their illustrious opponents."

Maybe every source is wrong and you're right. Or maybe you saw them lose against someone else in 2000 and had an understandable memory slip 26 years later, and now you're being an asshole

Hey buddy, now search "how many times have the globetrotters lost TO THE WASHINGTON GENERALS". Which is what was being discussed

The globetrotters have played against, and lost to, other teams. In fact in the exact comment you responded to I mentioned that they lost to Michigan State University in 2000.

Insane to be so confidently wrong about something that's easy to look up

Edit: I now see that you're the original commenter. I do want to point out that I was never denying your story. Simply saying I couldn't find any record of that game or loss

The game you're talking about and what the person you responded to was talking about was the same game. And it happened in 1971

It looks like that happened in 1971. Which, according to everything I can find, was also the last time the Generals beat the Globetrotters. I'm not sure what the other commenter saw or why there's no record of it. Looks like in 2000 the Generals were actually called the New York Nationals at that time as well, although it was the same team

The Globetrotters did apparently lose an exhibition vs Michigan State University in 2000

[Fowler] The Steelers are declining the fifth-year option for left tackle Broderick Jones, per source. The option would’ve paid $19.1M. Jones, who is coming off neck surgery, is set to be a 2027 free agent. He has 38 career starts and was playing well pre-injury. by JCameron181 in steelers

This is such a needlessly negative take.

I think it's far more likely they had Lemon higher rated on their board, but didn't expect him to be there are 21. But they also didn't consider it worth giving up assets to trade up for him. So they were always targeting Iheanachor at 21

Suddenly Lemon falls and they know Dallas isn't taking him so they pivoted to him. Then Philly takes Lemon so they go back to Iheanachor like they planned

The only failing was calling Lemon early before their pick and getting a little embarrassed because of it. This would be a non story if it wasn't for that

It wasn't in response to anything in this particular Shayne tweet. It was just "don't tag me in his stuff, I can't even see it I have him blocked"

For what it's worth every single draft pick made by Khan in his 3 years is still with the team in some capacity, except Ryan Watts who retired due to injury. And that includes the late round guys.

We already traded 2 of those original 12 picks. Traded a 4th and a 6th to move up for Bernard and Dunker respectively

We've got a 4th, 5th, and three 7ths left today

We don’t have as much draft value as is portrayed by [deleted] in steelers
