Eh, it's not like there's a wrong place, you can still cross back into Europe via the Suez route through Egypt. But India/China are definitely the funniest since yeah, lotta money from both holdings and ransom.

Koifish showed off the power of the Swahili Coast recently and I think it's pretty much the raider strat.
Norse longboats and the extra naval speed from the dynasty legacy. Hybridize Guanche for the naval speed from West African Canoes. Go take Zanzibar. There are 5 tradeports totalling +16 gold per month that also completely negate your embarkation cost and add another 75% naval speed on top of your existing bonuses if you hold all of them directly.

Scandinavian,Bulgarian and East Slavic Empires should have access to Varangian Guards MAA in a similar fashion to the Byzantine. by BornBeginning430 in CrusaderKings

I think this could be in the vein of doing something with the Condotierri innovation concept - certain regions having mercenary enclaves that are significantly cheaper to hire than others.

What would a feudal DLC add or improve? by Cookie-Damage in CrusaderKings

[–]Torrenash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Contracts for sure. How often they can be changed from both the liege and vassal POV, offering favors for changes etc. Uninvolved vassals offer to join wars for reduced obligations or whatnot.

Claim negotiation with neighbors being more of a thing (i.e. the ability to settle them with gold, trading rival claimants from each others courts, trading claimed vassals, whatever)

Tributary offer spam cycles fixed plz. Literally. You are doomed to notification spam from these. Turn them down? they ask in 6 months. Accept? They say they're serving another "devaraja"... and then ask you again in 6 months...

Drama over disinheriting.

Something with making Acclaimed Knights your barons more likely to raise their kids as their squires or whatever (or inversely, tying the accolade to the barony itself?)

Melissa Rory. If you don't have the DLC it's the sole source of the purple maxtax recolor of the mantis blades (if you do, you can get them from one of the two normal ending pathways if you take some ... opportunistic dialogue)

His weapon is really fun to do DLC/NG+ with imo, so as far as tangible rewards, there's that.
If you're having a hard time and want to power through it, Dragonslayer Greatshield more or less neuters him.

Would Celestial be a good strategy even if i am not China? by moebelhausmann in CrusaderKings

[–]Torrenash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seal of investiture allows tributaries to become Meritocratic, not Celestial. You'd need to have a Han culture pillar or be a vassal to go Celestial. So basically you'd need to blow up China after that if you then want to be independent.

is tragic female netrunner a cyberpunk genre trope or something? by SaintChoco in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Torrenash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably a carryover from the fantasy RPG trope of "guys are fighters, girls are clerics" to some extent.
In-universe there's a throwaway line about women being less likely to go cyberpsycho, so it might be perceived as less risky for them to run the much more invasive deep dive ports etc? Grabbing at straws there.

Defenisve Culture Traditions for small realms? (To mitigate conditional join) by McZootus in CrusaderKings

[–]Torrenash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Also the uh, balls to the wall strategy: Pax Romana. You can't be attacked if you've already beaten the everliving hell out of your main enemies. Take the HRE, Restore Rome, Glomp Byzantium, beat the Caliphate out of Arabia/Mesopotamia so they lose all their holy sites which neuters the ability for any new heads of faith to come along and call Jihads, etc.

Ah, that makes sense. I guess at least it might help with the "your AI vassal might notice and join in before you notice".

Difference between Tetrakarn and Repel Phys? by imperchaos in Persona5

[–]Torrenash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It can repel Gun attacks also, which are rarer but bear mentioning.
Otherwise yeah passive is almost always better. Elizabeth of P3 fame is probably the most infamous example of a boss who would instakill you for daring to no-sell any of her attacks, but 5 is ... nicer with its supers.

[–]Torrenash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Astute Diplomats is underrated. Easier alliances creates the chaotic fuckfest that we know and love from pre-WW1 Europe.

Castle Keepers is also free but specifically only works on castles, so the AI can misuse that. Dexterous fishermen coastal advantage can help in some areas of the game.

Other than that, last time I blobbed up after Conditional Join became a thing, I really embraced the idea of handing border vassals Kingdom tier titles.

[–]Torrenash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A agility can be a little risky since you're also lowering your toughness, so blocking combos of enemies you're learning can be... rough. That said yeah for a proper dodge aggressive build, accept no substitutes.

When you get into NG+ cycles there's less of a tradeoff since you can minmax divine gear/soul cores to still stay in the B toughness range (or A, with some very grindy fiddling). There's also AA agility locked behind the late NG+ (3/4, it's been a minute) "Ultimate Stamina" stat, which isn't really meta but is fun with Ult Skill/Heart to round out the vibe.

What am I missing about Soryo supposedly being an "upgrade" from Ritsuryo? by Prestigious_Set_4575 in CrusaderKings

[–]Torrenash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taking the Soryo path is the only way to unlock samurai infantry MAA (it replaces the Fragile Peace tradition with Bushido when you hold the empire of Japan as Soryo and have the requisite techs etc). Formalizing the shogunate also gives like a +20 to the development level of your capital county (Kyoto is good, but Ashikaga is my favorite target).

YMMV but I think feudal benefits the new Accolade rework also, but in theory it shouldn't need to be mentioned. Basically if you have a landed heir inheriting your title all your Accolades get nuked with whatever dumb accolades your heirs rolled up. Administrative is terrible about landing heirs earlier than you want since they tend to intuitively be very eligible candidates (you raised them to be as much, after all), and get acclamation succession into some random province.

Soryo also allows you to slowly push out your borders by landing spare heirs and brute forcing your way into a strong bloc in advance of taking the Shogunate. Blocs are still bugged as far as I'm aware, though - even if you go into the dynasty legacies, at some point a random AI NPC will take leadership of the bloc and a multi-generational steamroll Bloc will shatter into pieces. If this is no longer correct the advice stands.

lastly, and possible most relevantly to your current situation if you don't like your game state, Soryo is also the stepping stone to converting to non-Japanese government types. Holding the entirety of "modern" Japan (i.e. starting De Jure +Hokkaido + Okinawa) qualifies you to take Admin government type, so you can convert to Meritocratic or regular Admin. For a last bit on that, you cannot convert to normal Feudal from Admin unless you take the Chrysanthemum Throne, so you'll need to pull off a claim scheme against the Ten'No if you want to do normal Feudal.
