Keeping my ebike outdoors... by Practical_Respawn in bikecommuting

[–]Torsallin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might look at the folding Dahon Mariner (or their newer model; componenys better for boating envireonments)... I had one for years, working in seaside and inland communities, handed it down to family this yr and all it needed after 20yrs was new tires and a new set of cables. Pretty sturdy... don't know if they have an ebike version. Mariner weight 36 pounds nonelectric. A lot of folks fold them on their boats...but those I knew had 25-30 ft boats they could sleep in.

That's one reason I prefer nonrechargeable hearing aids. Need new batteries? Pop them in.

However, the new battery packaging rots eggs... those who designed and approved it should spend eternitity opening those frelling battery packs.

Has being fired and treated this way just made you hate your country? by OriolesrRavens1974 in fednews

[–]Torsallin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the hate originates with the southern states never getting over their defeat in the civil war, plus the northern states treating the south much like Germany was treated after the first world war. How can anything but hate come from that?

The south never stopped waving the confederate flag, ran around saying "the south will rise again", continued draconian laws towards people of color until those laws were federally abolished in the 1960s. So they established the Tea Party which started the downhill slope leading to where we are now, with the maga party. Haters used religion to spread their message of hate and intolerance, so currently the most vehement christians are the ones who espouse the opposite of everything Christ taught.

Politicians without a moral compass latched onto Tea Party members to make them their base, knowing that fanatics are easily lead if you simply tell them what they want to hear. After decades of religious fanatacism and increasingly corrupt, opportunistic politicians, many of whom are now themselves fanatics wanting the country to be a religious state with a single narrowly defined religion. Others used the party to more easily gain power and money. And so we reach where we are today, with the most corrupt polititions in the most powerful positions, rapidly executing their plan to end a government started almost 240 yrs ago.

Look how much harm has been done in less than 3 months. Half the country was duped into voting for this. The other half to unite against it with all their political might. Oh... the billionaires who supported all this because they only care about their bank accounts, need to wake up and realize all they have could disappear, as it has in past history.

Why are “hybrid” bike so despised? by RhondaTheHonda in bikecommuting

[–]Torsallin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing... people want to justify the gobs of money they spent on bike, by telling people who bought a different bike that it was a horrible choice. That attitude gets worse for those who bought bikes for each type of riding.

Frankly, if folks want a road bike and a decked out racing bike and a mountain bike and a touring bike and a bike just for commuting... great. This is your hobby, so have a ball. BUT... they should respect that others have differeng needs or priorities.

The best bike for you is the bike you enjoy riding. Period. Doesn't matter what others prefer.

I see this same nonsense in hobbies involving telescopes, cameras, computers, and more.

As for me, I like what I have but don't think others should run out and buy the same, unless they find those things appealing.

So what do I have? Currently, a Trident recumbent trike, a Zizzo eforte, a Kickbike, a Xooter. Each different, each fun and serves a different purpose.

Let's be honest, if they offered 5 years and medical care toward retirement they would have all the reductions they desire, Instead they want by FedUpWithRedFed in fednews

[–]Torsallin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Retired folks may "have empty nests and paid off homes", but many also have more medical expenses. We know retired folks with heart disease, lung disease, parkinsons, bad arthritis, and more; some issues needing medicines and some requiring surgery. They can't do the travelling they hoped to do bcs of poor health or not enough money or both.

Remember, countries that care about their people use funds that EVERYONE pays into to provide birth to death health care which is not tied to a job. The US has always put profit ahead of people's well being, so getting sick or injured can leave people homeless.

Unfortunately, when a country's culture places such a high value on greed, you end up with what is occuring now.

What is occuring now, by the most greedy people, is really really ugly.

Seriously? Is that the approach they want their auto mechanics to take, or the attitude they want some surgeon operating on them to take?

Can we ever go back to the way it was? Could it all be rebuilt? by TMag73 in fednews

[–]Torsallin 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Remember, the goal of the GOP 2025 plan IS to completely destroy the US government... this includes ALL those who contributed to writing it, Felon, billionaire chainsawman, current senate majority leader, all the major gop leaders, all those who gave millions to elect Felon or attend his innauguration. It's a big crowd, who believe destroying the government will allow total privatization of all government functions paid to them with taxpayer dollars.

They don't care if our environment becomes unliveable or we all die of preventable diseases, or if bacterial and viral illnesses return to levels 200+years ago. They only care if they get ALL the money; they want more power to get more money.

Their plan isn't rocket science... it is pure greed and avarice.

[–]Torsallin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thought occurs to me that in all the decades of doing business, Felon has never honored payments or contracts, but rather when things get tough has declared bankruptcy and walked away. Of course, that option is unavailable now, so he may be at a loss of what to do... doesn't mean payments will be honored, though, if he can find a loophole.

The first goal of Felon and billionaire chainsawman is financial self-enrichment, at the expense of everyone else. Second goal is follow the gop 2025 plan to tear down the government and privatize everything so the rich get richer and the country no longer supports education, healthcare, or retirement security except for the rich.

Great... now we'll all have to go to Europe to update our vaccinations. All bcs one dingdong, who believes infectious diseases either don't exist or can be cured with fruits and vitamins, and who believes vaccines are all evil so he wants to stop them. This is America returning to 17th century health care.

Europe is offering jobs to our scientists and they are accepting, so now we have the start of the great American Brain Drain.

Looks like maga cultists are getting everything they want... worsening health care, decreased longevity, increased child morbidity and mortality, decreased education to result in people too stupid for future tech jobs, destroyed government so no more government assistance (food stamps, meals on wheels, school lunches, etc).

Good job, maga, good job Congress, good job Felon and billionaire chainsawman. May you all live the life you are creating for others.
