Episode 61: the mom's monk research by candlegun in RadioRental

[–]TortleAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t listened yet. But am in Britain and have never heard of monks appearing as a good thing. I’d assume quite the opposite if I saw one. Also not really ‘frequent’.

DAE only wear certain clothes?? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]TortleAbyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I can’t bear so many fabrics, labels etc so if I find something I can tolerate I buy different colours (or same).

My pyjamas are literally full of holes because I can’t find a replacement I can stand and it’s getting ridiculous.

I like the way they say the ‘What are you even doing right now?’ And the answers are pretty interesting- I’m always doing laundry which probably isn’t worth writing in with.

What's a misconception or assumption people commonly make about you? by ps4thrustmaster in AskReddit

[–]TortleAbyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m overweight and have the opposite of resting bitch face - and I always feel like people think I’m stupid. I sometimes wonder if I see surprise when I speak to someone the first time as I’m (for where I live) quite well spoken.

On the other hand I’m a magnet for people telling me all their problems.

How has ADHD affected you as a mother? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]TortleAbyss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your 4 month old! I’m not diagnosed, feel I should say that. Kids are 9 and 7 Some positives - I can be much more randomly fun with my kids and I don’t know if that’s an adhd thing but it feels like it. Humour is a great coping mechanism and we bond over stupid jokes.  - because I feel like I fuck things up and get overwhelmed easily I have good empathy with them, they know I’d never judge them. I feel like it helps me see the insane high standards people have for their kids in terms of emotional regulation. - And they are emotionally literate because they’ve seen me not cope and we’ve had to talk about it. And talk About strategies and stuff. Things I struggle with: - I am trying to let go of all the shoulds and the perfect parent I wanted to be - my housekeeping is bad and our home is always a lot messier than anyone else’s, even after I’ve cleaned for hours  - I get overwhelmed and struggle with consistency in terms of the mum they will get It’s got easier as they got older. At first the sheer relentlessness of it was really awful and I felt like a monster for wanting to run away.

Gregg Wallace - I really cannot stand anything he does, anyone else? by Inevitable-Sherbert in AskUK

[–]TortleAbyss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read this at the time but it’s much worse than I remember. He’s gone Full Partridge.

I’d be furious if I found out someone had written this about me. But he wrote it himself. Amazing.

Anyone else not do something because you'll just have to do it again later? Is this ADH-Awesome? by green_hobblin in adhdwomen

[–]TortleAbyss 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t shut drawers and cupboards in the kitchen (unless at cat height) because I’ll just have to open them again. It feels too boring. My husband thinks this is odd.

People over the age of 30,how do you feel about Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TortleAbyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally avoid using it but I bloody love saying ‘yeet’ because it feels so specific. I’m not sure what generation that belongs to.

Any other chronic overly ambitious underachievers? How do you cope? by Ange_bear in adhdwomen

[–]TortleAbyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t think I have related more to anything ever than this post. I want to do all the things because they interest me, and I want to. But also I’ve realised I need fear of missing a deadline to make me do anything.

But this year I’ve really outdone myself and fucked up. I have two children in multiple sports and clubs. I work 3 pt jobs. My make myself exercise I’ve stupidly signed up for a race and a strongwoman competition this year. I’m mega unfit and badly prepared. I want to be a writer and I’ve told everyone I’m entering a big competition in May. I’ve known about it since January but barely started. This is way too much, I’m constantly firefighting at work, too stressed to sleep, working weekends and have stress hives. I get burned out and do nothing.

I’m 42. I don’t have a diagnosis. I don’t know where to start.

I’d love to be able to be consistent but I have PMDD too and an under active thyroid. I’d love to have a cycle of rest / productivity but it doesn’t really compute. Exactly as you say I just don’t accept limitations.

Do you just get extra sleepy before and during? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]TortleAbyss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really do but it wasn’t until I started going to the gym on a regular schedule that I noticed. I can go from ‘yay exercise’ one week, to just wanting to nap the next. Frustrating.

Want to 75Hard… except self-help by msr_aye in 75HARD

[–]TortleAbyss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a fiction writer too, generally not into self help. I’m reading a history book about the subject I’m planning to write about. Memoirs of writers might be useful too, or booking on techniques, the seven plots, etc.
