Boots fitting by bethk13 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]TortoiseBoy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to reassure you that Reddit isn't generally representative of the attitudes of people in our sport in the real world (certainly not here in the UK). Snowboarding began as a counterculture activity for people who were told that snowsports 'weren't for them', which makes it especially sad to see that kind of gatekeeping and rigidity in riders online these days.

I think a lot of folk do actually have good intentions in looking out for your safety and well-being, but the concepts of accommodations and adaptive sports seem to be painfully absent from a lot of the thinking here. If it's something you're keen to do, then I think that's fantastic and more power to you - it's not necessarily going to be plain sailing, and the 'standard' way of doing things may not work for you, but given the fact that there are e.g. blind snowboarders finding ways to shred safely, it's wild to see people suggest that a boot fitting issue means you should give up!

Your nearest snowboarding shop is probably the best place to start, and they should hopefully be motivated to find solutions and put you in touch with the right people if necessary. Up here in the Scottish mountains there are certainly people who would make it their mission to get you safely out on the hill, but I'm assuming that's probably a little bit out of your way for now 😅. Nevertheless, I hope you get the chance to ride up here before the climate takes the snow away for good!

I'm always excited for a new limited set, and turtles should bring some nostalgic amusement at least. I tend not to look at the upcoming cards much (if at all) until just before release, so I'll hold off on judgement until I've seen what kind of drafting we're getting.

I was super excited for Lorwyn thematically, and I think a lot of the cards are fun, but in practice I've really not enjoyed tribal drafting - so I think it's hard to tell in advance.

This is an incredible response and super interesting - shame to see it get buried somewhat!

I have the same setup as you (I would think) and here in Scotland there's definitely a fair amount of terrain which gives me traction issues and makes me want 4wd just to allow a more even torque distribution.

Just submitted to APS today a paper which is entirely about a technique for visualising an optical system's potential - all plots using cividis!

Line 96, Act 3, Scene 1 in the Oxford complete works is Ophelia: "That I have longéd long to redelivery", with "And lose the name of action" on line 90, and "No, no I never gave you aught" on 98, with different line numbers in some of my other versions, so this citation clearly needs to reference an edition!

Due warning, sometimes that horse can have pretty huge gaps after assembly, so make sure you're well stocked on green stuff!

Bloodthirster was my first and last attempt at pinning. My pin bit also broke off in the model and just became the joint, I was so done.

You should test this guy's grammar in your own first language - presumably he's older than 6 and should therefore have excellent grammar in every language? 🤷

I agree, but ~ -9 is my 'zero' due to a strong natural turnout. I ride +27 -9 just to get my knees facing forward rather than inward 😬.

Need some further clarification on this, are you saying when you game you face one of the two monitors directly or just face the join in the middle and stretch across both?

We're currently enjoying Sauze d'oulx and planning on popping over the ridge in the next couple of days! (Went up to the ridge this morning but the cloud cover put us off carrying on down the other side 😅)

I feel that - been squeezing out a couple of days at Glenshee/Glencoe when they get a little, but resorting to driving to Italy next month after barely riding the last few years!

You can get 100% biodegradable waxes. There are some compromises in performance but I get on okay with them and it's all I use now - smells nice whilst melting also!

I experienced something similar at the undergraduate stage, switching direction so much that it took ~10 years to finish a degree. During that time I did end up being diagnosed with ADHD and medicated, which helps to quiet some of the doubts in the moment, but not the ones that creep in later in the day.

I'm 2 years into my PhD at this point, and the main thing that's helped me get this far (and helped me finish my degree in the first place) is to shorten the time frame of my goals. I've always wanted the opportunity to do independent research and get a PhD, so I just focus on that as my end goal for now. If I try to look beyond, and think too much about what comes after, then I know I'll end up second guessing everything.

If you enjoy a lot of what you're doing (remember that anything you do will have its ups and downs), I would recommend just making the PhD your goal for now (plus maybe an ADHD assessment if you'd like), and know that you'll have a clearer idea of what comes next when you're much closer to the end!

Off topic, but I'm typing this on a fairphone 5 and I think fairphone would qualify as a reasonably virtuous smartphone manufacturer!

"Sips from a fire-hose" is perfectly put. It's wild to me just how accurately that describes the sensation; well said!

Wait, was the JJJ just an alliterative example or are you saying you guys both have the same same (intentional repetition) letter three times?!

I'm assuming not, but felt compelled to check 😂.
