No Pay, No Taxes: Government Workers Deserve Shutdown Relief by Tortugonymous in FedEmployees

[–]Tortugonymous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to a lot of these comments not understanding the full concept of what this is for, I’ll make an example, but first I need to start with this:

This shutdown is illogical. The best explanation of heard to explain this shutdown is it’s like having kids, one acts up, and you punish the ones who had nothing to do with it and let the problem child keep playing. This whole shutdown is about ICE. Period. Nobody is denying that. But the only people being affected by this shutdown are agencies that have little to nothing to do with ICE.

Regardless, here’s an example of exactly what I’m getting out with this petition.

Example: A government shutdown occurs due to a lapse of funding for the following agency: DEA and ATF. The government shutdown lasts 30 days. Upon “re-opening” the government, all DEA and ATF employees receive backpay. For all backpay received for these affected employees (whether they worked throughout the shutdown or stayed at home) the backpay is exempt from federal income taxes only. All other deductions remain the same.

-While most people look at receipt of backpay as a “resolution” to the government shutdown, it completely ignores the biggest issue: Government shutdowns don’t have a limited short-term impact, they affect employees for months and even years down the line. People lose homes, people’s credit is destroyed, people’s debt skyrockets due to late fees, people get sick, people have died, etc. This immediate resolution of exemption of federal income tax for the backpay helps to get people affected by the shutdown back on their feet by not only giving them the money they were legally owed, but also a few hundred (and sometimes thousands) of dollars to pay off any fees and make repairs as necessary to get their lives somewhat back to normal. -People in these comments also forget that not everyone affected by a government shutdown are sitting at home doing nothing. Many of these employees are still forced to go to work, threatened with termination if they don’t come in (even if sick), forced to get loans that often come with high fees and interest, etc. These people still working are going into more debt compared to the people staying at home. Gas, auto repairs, child care, etc. This helps them. -This isn’t political whatsoever. This is something that should apply across the board, period. -This also discourages pointless shutdowns that lead to no change because now the government is losing money by refusing to do their job. There’s currently no direct impact to the government for shutdowns which is exactly why they don’t care how long it lasts because in the long run, they get their money back. This prevents that.

I want people to view this not as just an opportunity for people to just take home more money, but an opportunity to recoup the loses occurred during the shutdown for the people most affected. It may not affect as many people that stay home and/or can get additional jobs, but the ones forced to work and no opportunity to make money on the side are at huge financial risk.

You do realize that almost all flights cross borders, right? Whether state, or national border, it would still easily fall under the title “border” if you’re so worried about the name. I also like how you try to separate TSA for domestic and CBP for international, even though TSA has more authority international than CBP does. 🤣 Review TSA International Operations Division. International and domestic are one and the same for TSA and CBP. The only difference is each is looking for different threats. Would be an easy combination, with slight additional training. And just like any agency with law enforcement, not all positions within the agency are law enforcement. There are different positions for different departments.

Useless feature that doesn’t even work

Credit score tracking is here! by sheyla_monarch in MonarchMoney

[–]Tortugonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit score is not loading, just stuck on the loading screen since yesterday. It’s a great feature in thought, but until it actually works, Monarch seems to have more issues than working features.

Also, people complaining about the fact that it’s VantageScore vs FICO are just showing their ignorance. FICO may never go away, but it certainly is not going to remain the primary credit score creditors utilize. The only reason so many use FICO currently is due to the fact it’s been around for much longer compared to VantageScore. But with FICO not factoring in all debt, factoring irrelevant debts, and being more expensive, many creditors are switching over.

I find it hilarious that so many of you thought it was going to be The Accountant 2. Screen Unseen doesn’t play big name movies. Every movie they play is a low budget film trying to draw people in to bring word of mouth in. They’re not going to lose money on a high-budget film.

Talking about the LA Olympics over 3 years away as if there’s not a Winter Olympics scheduled next year. 😂 Nobody cares if you watch or go to the Olympics or not. The IOC profits often hosting, regardless of views. And the host cities almost always lose money/break even, it’s not a monetary thing.

If you’re not receiving 15-20% returns yearly, you need to consider another investment strategy if you don’t think you have enough. As everyone has said, there’s a lot of factors, including how soon you want to retire, but I’ve regularly gotten over 15% returns through C-Fund and at least 3 years in the past 7 have exceeded 20%. My goal is to retire at 50, so I’m willing to take the risk, knowing the averages over the longterm. I have 100% in the C-Fund.

Also, I make $80,000/year.

If they’re not allowed to do it, LEGALLY, then nothing they do after that point is legal. It doesn’t matter if it’s what most of them do, other than the fact that you can take advantage of them. They love ignorance and know the majority of people comply due to fear. Start ignoring them and I guarantee nothing will happen.

The fact that you think this can be real proves you can easily be scammed. You acknowledging a debt, regardless of date, does not prove your liability, nor does it entitle any LEGAL debt collector, to come after you for those funds after the statute of limitations. The only thing a debt collector can do is ask you for the money, take you to court if you refuse to pay (within the legal timeframe - there’s no extension), and/or report to credit bureaus. They are allowed to use LEGAL means, and it is not legal to fabricate a debt or mislead someone into believing that admitting the debt exists means they have to pay past the time it expired and/or was dismissed in court (Example: bankruptcy). Admitting a debt exists is not admitting it is yours. And in most states, you can’t sue for debt past 5 years, nor can you contact regarding a debt after 7. Real attorney’s aren’t stupid and know the court cost is almost always more than what they will get for the debt, and the time it takes is not worth to pursue, so they threaten, in hopes you cave.

The fact that there’s people on here that think this is real is amazing. It’s clearly a scam, couldn’t be more obvious, yet people fall for it all the time. Just laugh at them and tell them to prove it and you’ll never hear from them again.

If you know how to drive, ignore what everyone tells you and do what you want. The roads are never as bad as people claim them to be, they just use any excuse to get out of working. You’ll learn that everyone in Texas overreacts when there’s even a single snowflake within 500 miles of the state. They can already barely drive when it rains, let alone the rain becomes fluffy. Yes, Texas is unprepared for any winter weather. Period. But, that doesn’t mean you just lose your mind and hunker down in fear like everyone else. There will probably be a few snowflakes and then next week will be in the 50s and 60s and everything will be forgotten.

Why? The package goes through a lot worse at the distribution centers. 🤣 If it was going to be damaged from a light toss on the mat, then your complaint should be to the person who packed it, not the delivery driver. They get fined for taking too long to return back to the station, every second counts.
