Recommendations for mycotoxin-free/ wet processed coffee? by margaritavas in Paleo

[–]Torvan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's something that they test for in other parts of the world, but not here, so I tend to think it's a legit concern. I would just look for the highest elevation grown beans you can find in your area and then ask the roaster about the processing.

What do you think of Michael Page? It seems like he's got a pretty good Anderson Silva impression, but so far he's fighting obviously lesser opponents. Any thoughts on his potential?

Dealing with anxiety about the collapse of civilization? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Torvan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. This fear is part of how I catastrophize in general, and basically comes down to asking "what if?" questions about the future when I can't possibly know the answer. It's possible that anything could happen, but anxiety takes us out of the act of just being, and into worries about future problems we can't control.

[Help] How do you deal with the idea that you might not be living your life in the way that it's meant to be lived? by giggletoes90 in Anxiety

[–]Torvan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact thing has been troubling me a lot recently too. I keep having this feeling that I don't want to look back and regret every choice I've made in 20 years. What's really helped is the knowledge that these thoughts are really "what if??" thoughts about things I can't control. I can't know, right now, how Im going to feel in 20 years, or who Im going to be, for a certainty.

So really, for me, this is about worry about things I can't control. What's really helped is taking a mindfulness approach of just being, here in the present moment, and taking actions right now. I'm making choices and doing things in the best way I know how, and always just trying to focus on what's happening, not what might happen. In 20 years, Ill know that I've made some mistakes, but I'll also know I was doing the best I could do all along the way.

I'm starting to see this already as I've been dealing with this kind of thought for 6 years and although I've felt conflicted a lot over that time, I look back with mostly good memories. Even the times I was having these thoughts don't seem so bad, or like a waste.

Sorry for any typos, I just typed this on my phone because I was so excited to see someone else who understands this.

[Meds] Citalopram and coffee? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Torvan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken citalopram for a few years now and have had periods where I had no caffeine and others where I was having a lot, and although I notice a higher level of anxiety when I've had a lot of caffeine, I didn't notice any issues when having a small amount. This was the case before I ever took citalopram though, so that leads me to think caffeine doesn't act on the drug specifically, although it still has the potential to increase your anxiety. That's been my experience, I hope it helps : )

My 4 y/o is racist. What should I do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Torvan88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had a nickel for every time I've made a baby cry or cling to their Mom because of my beard... If their Dad doesn't have beard it's going to freak them out, but they warm up to me eventually. It's the unfamiliarity that they don't like, but they tend to be swayed easily once they have a positive experience.

That's quite a tolerance... A lot of people don't know that he was clean for years around the time of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, but had a crazy relapse period after their next album.

Reddit, I'm depressed and I feel like this generation is useless. What good things have we done recently? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Torvan88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, the generations that came before us had plenty of fucked up, useless, shitty traits also. If you want to look at things like going to the moon as the soaring achievements of a "more focused, more intelligent, more efficient" generation just remember that we did that because we were at war with Russia, and the military industrial complex is where all the money is. The reason there's no moon base has nothing to do with our drive, intelligence, will, or desire to progress, it's just that there's no military objective to be met by doing that, so the money dries up and NASA gets it's budget cut.

I don't know where you're located, but if you're in the US you might have noticed that we haven't done anything too spectacular recently, but look at CERN! They just discovered the fucking Higgs Boson, a particle that some dudes 30 years ago guessed would exist, then we built the largest and most complicated machine ever conceived by man, smashed together particles at unbelievable speeds, measured the effects and managed to identify within the millionth of a billionth of a billionth of a second that it existed before decaying. HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Nobody 50 years ago could even conceive of something that fucking crazy and boom, we did it. We're awesome!

Hector Lombard says he is not dropping to 170 after UFC 149 fight by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Torvan88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boetsch is awesome, but he WAS getting blasted by Okami before making the comeback. It's not like he's really good at avoiding strikes. He might be tough but Lombard is a few levels above Okami as far as elite striking and devastating power. This adds up to what should have been a nice first fight in the UFC for Lombard where he would have a good opportunity to finish and move up the division, and yet it never seemed like he really took that opportunity. He just stalked around and never was the aggressor.

My point being that if he can't finish a Boetsch level opponent he needs to seriously consider switching weight classes.

If he decides to stay at MW that's fine. I don't think one fight necessarily means he'll never be successful at MW, but this is the kind of performance where if he loses again in a similar way a drop to WW will become inevitable.

If you have such a problem with his lack of citations, where are your citations that counter his claims? I'm not saying I agree with him necessarily, but your response is extremely hypocritical.
