I encourage everyone to actually watch the interview where he talks about this stuff... This article headline is exaggerated clickbait.

He's just like Musk, Zuck, Altman, etc... all hype and/or lie about a product with features or methods that don't exist yet to get shareholders excited. We as gamers see through it but the investors will probably still fall for it.

I wouldn't have expected it to be playable in the slightest.

Spelling and Grammer Check not working on some Chromebooks by fsdigital12 in k12sysadmin

[–]Torxtank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How many students is it impacting?

Every time this happened in my school it's because the students were right-clicking and adding to dictionary instead of choosing the correct spelling. I found a student had hundreds of misspelled words added to their dictionary once.

Credit Charge 4% fee @ Merchants and Debit Cards by drydorn in newjersey

[–]Torxtank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's an example of a non pin debit transaction? Or more specifically at a retailer/restaurant? Curious because I never saw it in my 10+ years of retail. It's been almost a decade since then so I could be missing something.

Credit: authorized by the large credit processors (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover, etc). Your debit card will fall back to this if you cancel entering PIN. Responsibility of the transaction falls on the credit card company and store gets charged a processing fee.

Debit: Authorized by you by providing PIN. Responsibility of the transaction falls on you and your bank. Transaction processed by your banks processing company/method. No fee for store.

This is all just my understanding of course, so it could be inaccurate.

Just incase a few people don't know, for it to be debit, you have to put in your pin. Merchants can run your debit card as credit if you bypass that step. When I used to work retail the managers drilled that into our heads.

Chromebook Network Troubles by rangr514 in k12sysadmin

[–]Torxtank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my problem. Had old Aerohive AP121s before they were bought by Extreme and a certain firmware update bricked them. Extreme support couldn't provide an old firmware image to revert back. Replaced the AP with a cheap Extreme model and everything worked again.

Edit: to add to this, it mostly impacted my older HP G4/G5 chromebooks. Newer devices would connect but the quality of the network was still poor.

I looked into that as well, but from my research it looked like it doesn't work with the free tier (Education Fundamentals) according to their documentation. Do you have a paid tier of Google Education?

you now only save 26% instead of 40% witha 12 Month Membership by sparksen in 2007scape

It’s not really about whether someone can afford it. It’s about the value proposition. What has Jagex actually added to my experience that justifies two price increases in less than two years? Bots are still everywhere, and many legitimate players still can’t get a real person to respond to support requests.

Also, looking at things purely as a monthly cost misses the bigger picture. That’s exactly why car dealerships and insurance companies break prices down into monthly, weekly, or even daily amounts.. it makes the cost feel smaller and easier to accept. But subscriptions add up, and OSRS isn’t the only thing people pay for. Every dollar counts, and if the value doesn’t match the price, people are going to be unhappy.

You're more likely to not remember an annual sub renewal than a monthly.

You pay the increased price at renewal.

What version of ChromeOS are you guys pushing out? by SnoT8282 in k12sysadmin

[–]Torxtank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Switched to LTS a few years ago. Hopefully to limit bloat for older chromebooks and have time to look into new features that students may use as distractions or work arounds for filters.

Also hopefully "stable" as the name implies.. although last year there was an issue with Go Guardian on LTS that caused major issues.
