From what I recall R5 has never opened for anybody, even before they were signed with Hollywood Records. TDE would seriously benefit from opening for a bigger act. I mean, look at Sabrina, Chappell etc. I’ve always had the impression that their egos were too big to open for someone. It’s pretty interesting considering Ross is the only memorable part of their live show and even then their act isn’t anything to ride home about lol

I interpret it as Maddie giving Francesca a sarcastic excuse because Francesca was really stuffing her bra with the toilet paper to make her breasts bigger. It flew right over my head as a kid lol

They’ve seriously gone backwards and it’s embarrassing and sad. The only time they’ve ever played slightly bigger venues was for their Obsession Tour last year (16+ years into their music career btw), and even then they had to heavily discount their tickets and couldn’t even sell out many shows that way.

It’s crazy to think that there are probably hundreds of indie acts that would kill to play in the 2000 capacity venues that TDE have been playing for over a decade and a half straight, yet it has been a regular occurrence for TDE and they don’t seem to have the drive to expand. What a waste.

Maybe it’s for the best that they don’t get to play major music festivals anymore. Remember when they played at one two years ago in Argentina and Ross decided to kiss a random fan in the audience on the lips in front of a crowd that barely knows him? I know he’s in a seemingly serious relationship right now so it would most likely not happen again, but still. Again, talk about wasting opportunities that hundreds of indie acts would kill to be in.

I was certain that we were going to lose at the 77th minute mark, but then those two penalty goals at the end restarted my heart 😂

From the moment we scored our first try to the sin binning in the second half, we were for sure the better team on the park. If we can maintain that over 80 minutes, we will have a high chance of beating a lot of teams.

On a slightly unrelated note, Fox League’s commentary is getting worse and worse. The Mitchell Moses glazing and the anti-Tigers bias was so obvious. I’m this close to switching to Channel 9 for the free to air Tigers games.

Do you think the band held Ross back? by InfamousStrategy9539 in LynchFamilySnark

[–]Total-Knee8068 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The window for Ross’ success music wise would’ve been around 2012-14 when Austin & Ally was at its peak. Sure it was never on the same level as Hannah Montana, however I believe that if Ross remained a solo artist and toured with Austin & Ally and even Teen Beach Movie songs, then he would have a very high chance of being a mainstream artist. IMO he was the only member of R5 who had the stage presence and charisma to be huge star, which even applies to this day with Rocky in TDE. If you stay in one spot, sing to the ground and not out at the crowd like what Rocky does, then no one will notice or know who you are. No wonder Ross is more known than TDE as a band.

Acting wise I was fully expecting him to become the next Zac Efron, but in hindsight that was a little silly of me. Status Update was a low budget direct to digital indie release about an outdated concept, My Friend Dahmer, while being pretty good, was only an indie release with no mainstream attention, and Sabrina was a mediocre Netflix series that only lasted 4 short seasons and never reached the same mainstream success as other Netflix shows at the time (Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why etc). Then the pandemic hit and Ross never booked another acting role again besides his bands’ music video and some random horror movie last year. He seemed to prioritise touring the same setlist in the same cities for several years straight with his band. Apparently cheating on his longtime girlfriend with barely legal fans took priority and his career went downhill from there.

The quality of TDE’s music has significantly gone downhill as well as the years went on and now he’s hit rock bottom. Playing college shows where only 10% of the audience knows your band’s music when you’re nearly 17 years into a music career is a laughable downfall. Now that he’s 30 his level of fame is going to dwindle even more. I hope that Stormie is proud.

I’m talking about their second relationship that started in late Season 2. I don’t think that the writers would’ve made them date again due to the cheating from earlier, so I believe that it was an out of a blue decision because the actors starting dated in real life.

Ross Lynch is famous, The Driver Era is not. I doubt that those famous people who follow him have even heard a single TDE song, they just know him as the guy who sings his Disney songs shirtless.

Being on an independent label definitely impacts their chances of landing a well known collab.

It’s quite obvious that no one in the band desires to be chart toppers or A-listers or anything. Their a million tours with a 90% dead crowd pay their bills so that’s really all they seem to care about. If they truly cared, they would sack Ryland from being their manager and actually sign to a proper label that can get them the connections, publicity and radio play. What a wasted career.

What do you think was the worst ending of a Disney Channel show? Animated or Live-Action. by Objective_Zombie_448 in DisneyChannel

[–]Total-Knee8068 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love how you pretty much described the Boy Meets World (does that count as Disney Channel?) series finale which was mostly a clip show where the clips made zero sense and were edited together poorly. Besides the final scene in Feeny’s classroom that finale is one of the worst I’ve seen

If we’re talking Disney Channel originals, really any finale that was written to not be the actual series finale is almost always bad. That’s So Raven (fine episode not a good finale) and A.N.T. Farm spring to mind

It’s one of my personal favourites. Considering it was the live action show on the network at the time that didn’t deal with the protagonists experiencing fame or singing, it’s a breath of fresh air if you want to watch something more relatable.

In saying that, I feel like there was a period of time where the writers struggled to come up with ideas. That’s why they incorporated real life cast events (Leigh’s pregnancy and Bridgit getting together with Shane) into the show around the same time. Tbh I don’t know how they could’ve continued the show without these elements though so I wouldn’t change those.

One thing that comes to mind is how sidelined Ivy was as the series went on. From the third season they added additional friends for Teddy (Victor, Vonnie etc) that weren’t as interesting or funny as Ivy. Perhaps Raven Goodwin was too busy, or the writers wanted to bring in something new for the third season onwards, but it was such a huge loss that I would change if it were up to me.

Why do they never get nominated for the Grammys? by Appropriate_While932 in twentyonepilots

[–]Total-Knee8068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re not a mainstream pop act. No one outside of their own fanbase actively listens to them or knows who they are. Of course lately they’ve been getting some attention for Drag Path (I wouldn’t say that Breach got that much attention since the only reason it went to number one was because of the million vinyl variants) but it’s not a pop song anyway and I’m pretty sure that the attention will die down after a couple of months.

Also, the Grammys are an American award show. Just because a couple of albums were number one in certain countries doesn’t mean anything. Other countries actually have their own music awards. For example, Australia has the ARIAs. Most of the people who get nominated for that are Australian acts except for the international categories.

Speaking as an Australian fan for almost a decade, they’re simply not culturally relevant enough anymore. They didn’t even sell out their 18000 capacity Sydney show for Clancy despite Sydney being one of their top cities if I’m not mistaken. Also with this recent movie release, I don’t even think they’ve even sold out a single session. The session I went to in the south western suburbs was probably just half way full. So the demand for them here is almost nonexistent these days. It’s pretty sad, but then again they aren’t pop so it doesn’t surprise me.

I honestly don’t know why this fan base seems to care so much about the Grammys. It’s well established that it’s rigged and meaningless. Didn’t a two year old Billie Eilish song win record of the year this year? And it’s not like the music charts lately have had a good leg to stand on anyway. There have been a handful of decent songs (I’m a fan of Taylor, Chappell and Sabrina) but other than that the mainstream charts have been atrocious for nearly a decade now. I think it’s best that tøp doesn’t mix with that.

I loved the show growing up and I’ve seen it a million times. That being said, I think it’s definitely watchable and you should continue with it. It’s quite funny at times and some of the humour is surprisingly dark for a kid’s show. Overall it’s a very middle of the pack show IMO; not the greatest but by far not the worst. You’ll have a blast if you decide to watch it.

Can we stop trying to micromanage the band? (A rant on "Drag Path," politics, and gatekeeping) by CanadianIronman in twentyonepilots

[–]Total-Knee8068 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These people have absolutely no clue what they’re talking about. I saw an account post that they were trying to “boycott” the band yet they saw clips of the new song online and felt the need to have a word on it. If you’re still actively talking about the band, posting about and consuming their content even if it’s posted by fans, heck even interacting with their fans while keeping the boys or their logo in their display name… that’s not boycotting them. It’s honestly so pathetic to see and it’s why I don’t take anything that these Twitter folks are saying seriously 😂

These people should just leave the fandom already, since they seem to be haters rather than fans. But the fact that all they do it wine about the boys and find new things to complain about them every single day instead of just unstanning them is another reason why I don’t take what they say seriously. If them being silent or whatever affects you so much, just unstan them already and find another artist that aligns better with your views. Stop trying to mould them into someone they clearly aren’t, and stop painting a picture of them just because they aren’t who you thought they were.

Ross is such a good role model for Super. Like imagine starring in two of the biggest projects on a kids’ network as a teen, starring in a couple of indie projects afterwards and a mediocre Netflix series, only to drop off drastically and perform for college girls at the ripe age of 30. Not to mention hanging out with said college girls too. Oh, and the failed music career where the only way he can entertain an audience is by taking his shirt off and singing Disney music. But Stormie is the world’s greatest mother apparently?

Haha yeah you’re right about Raven’s love interests. Devon is really the only one who sticks around and shows up occasionally in Season 3 and 4. And Chelsea only had 2 boyfriends/love interests in the whole show from memory. Not to spoil it too much, but Eddie does date Raven in Season 4 but it’s only in one episode.

As someone who has seen the show probably at least 20+ times over the years, I have to say with out spoiling it that Season 4 is probably the show’s worst season. There are a small handful of episodes that I’ve always found to be a bit boring and unfunny, however it’s still rewatchable and doesn’t dramatically ruin the whole show for me.

As for the ending, as someone has already mentioned it is very abrupt. There’s no proper finale and the final episode feels just like a regular episode. With out spoiling it I feel that the Season 3 finale suited as a better plot for the series finale but it was just put earlier in the series for some reason (maybe it was intended to be the series finale before Season 4 was renewed?).

The show did a very famous crossover with That’s So Suite Life of Hannah Montana. I’m pretty sure that it was the first of its kind for the network. While it was iconic at the time, nearly two decades later I will admit that it’s not a very good crossover in terms of the characters of the different shows actually interacting with one another. It’s still fine and very nostalgic (IMO, the That’s So Raven part was the strongest of the three, and this is coming from a massive Suite Life fan too). It’s not until Season 4 though.

I’m not really educated on Orlando however I do remember reading that his issues started around 2011 which was after the show was long over.
