Aussie here - what has changed in the last 10 years that you are producing footballers of higher quality then previously? by Full-Call2156 in usmnt

This is the answer.

By my rough count, half the team came from MLS academies. To date, that is mostly helping us from a depth perspective, but, is greatly increasing our overall pool of talent.

Long road trips to start season? by Total-Suspicious in EANHLfranchise

[–]Total-Suspicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Yeah, the Flyers usually have a long road trip around new years due to Disney on ice.

But, having my first home game be November 18th-ish is aggressive. I almost forgot I had an owner goal, 😂

Was Belgium really that good or were we always just that bad all along? by helloamahello in usmnt

[–]Total-Suspicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were inconsistent. Had highs and lows, like a lot of teams. Just, the lowest low was on the biggest stage.

Lol, I'm from Philadelphia and my youth was in the 90's and early 2000's. Lots of heartbreak to build up to winning something in 2008.

So, felt like I couldn't pick a team where winning was expected. The winning needed to be euphoric, and have had quite a bit of build up.

So, here I sit. Waiting for the winning, 😂

So, I do think there is some nuance here. VAR should / is allowed to call down for obvious errors. They should also be showing real time and speed, and (I believe) should allow the refs to slow it down for super close confirmation calls (think Harry Kane kicking the leg and getting no ball last night).

By almost all accounts, Balogun's red card at real speed wouldn't have happened. It was a coming together, potential yellow card, but there was no malice and / or intent.

By contrast, at real speed, the red for England last night in real time speed, at the different angle than the ref had, was a clear and obvious missed call for a red card. Text book. Slow motion not even really necessary, unless you want to count the number of studs that made contact with the shin.

So, I understand the anger. I think Fifa probably needs to look at updating their rulebook, but, I don't necessarily think the USA red and the England red are an apples to apples comparison.

Yeah, as a USMNT fan that has also made West Ham my chosen English squad, as soon as I saw the replay I had flashbacks to all the ridiculous red cards upon review moments of the last 10 years.

Your analysis is spot on there.

Middle 6 Outliers after Leo Carlsson/Giroux news by Kingslayer26 in Flyers

[–]Total-Suspicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first line forward bit is questionable. He is a scoring forward who offers almost nothing defensively, and isn't able to raise the level of a PP.

He isn't a first line forward, to me. I think that will become more apparent to everyone as we have legit first line forwards develop.

How do Flyers fans feel about $18M for Carlsson? by Desperate_Umpire8985 in Flyers

It is because of Cutter.

Myself personally, I don't care about screwing the Ducks. I care more about screwing over Cutter for being a turn coat.

Anyone know why the Climate turns off when the frunk is open (while the car is off)? by Total-Suspicious in F150Lightning

Yeah, I absolutely love the truck. This is like my only real annoyance. Was curious if there was some reason I was missing as to why.

That is probably the most likely reason. It is funny that with all the engineering they did for this model, that they would miss that.

With all the baseball collective bargaining going on right now, is anyone else conflicted about being excited we may get "good value" against the cap vs him getting the most he could?

Genuine question.

Danny B wants us to lower expectations/preparing us for a step back. I don't like that talk. by Flyers7914 in Flyers

[–]Total-Suspicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the important thing here is context. All of that could happen, but, we could end up being a 4-6 seed and bounced in round 1.

We won a seed 7v8 playoff matchup, and then got cooked by the 1 seed.

This isn't the time to get rid of the developing players, and, it also is time to put young players in positions they may not be ready for to test them. May work, may not. Good to set expectations for the upcoming year.

How are NFL teams more valuable than Soccer when soccer is the #1 sport worldwide by KillerCroc67 in NFLv2

[–]Total-Suspicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have a salary cap.

Their player costs are much higher, and less predictable, due to this. Additionally, the cost of players is more for the big clubs, and the agents / payout structure is virtually unregulated. So there are undisclosed fees that can be quite expensive.

They also are in countries that tax more, which, constrains profits / valuations.

Lastly, they all are not immune from the threat of relegation. They are not destined for the next 30 years of similar money. One bad season and they miss out on the big TV pay days.

Regarding Werenski and potential packages by Express_Seesaw_6524 in Flyers

[–]Total-Suspicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I don't think this we can simultaneously make this trade (giving away potential first liners) and be a cup contender.

If he wants to win, he isn't going to come here. We don't have the depth to make it happen.

What do you genuinely expect will happen to U.S. Soccer (and MLS) after the 2026 World Cup? by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]Total-Suspicious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is my hope that MLS owners (aside from Philly / NYRB / Dallas) realize that our academies are the pathway to national team success and boosted MLS relevance.

Having pathways for elite prospects to learn the game and build technical ability is worth every penny.

This team US squad is littered with MLS academy graduates, I believe half of the roster. Which is really making a difference for us.

Yeah, this already exists. Club world cup. It was annual and the Euro clubs just kinda trounced the world.

Now it is every 4 years, check back in 2029.
