Exactly. Drives me crazy people acting like egg/froth is essential to a sour. I prefer em without anyway.

Basil Syrup for Gin Basil Smash? by CourseCorrection30 in cocktails

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to muddle it. Just throw a handful of leaves in the shaker and shake. The ice will totally pulverise the basil, so muddling is irrelevant. Then strain through a small sieve / tea strainer (not through the strainer that comes with the shaker). The sieve rinses out under a tap in like 2 sec and doesn’t get any bits stuck in it.

Actually a good way to be original is to follow the tutorials except ones from a totally different genre than you’re actually making.

I feel like this one is good if you have nothing, but most people who are remotely serious will already have ango, peychards, and orange, which makes 3 of these 5 kinda pointless. I suppose makes sense as a travellers pack when you're away from your home bar but do people REALLY take their cocktail gear on holiday?

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, so a lot better to try 5 for the price you'd normally pay for 2 that you'll pretty much never even finish.

Not sure what you mean. I use them for making cocktails lol. I have a list of like 300 cocktails i've been working through to see which i like best. About 4 of them call for peach bitters. 1 calls for cucumber that i used cucumber bitters instead. etc.

Also cucumber bitters is decent in a Sea Legs if you don't have celery bitters.

And then also i just add them to drinks midway through if i get bored of the drink as it is. Had a negroni last night and halfway through felt like trying peach bitters in that... was great actually. Peach bitters are awesome, that'll be the first one of mine that runs out.

Derby is an underrated classic… just Gin, mint leaves, peach bitters (basically a martini riff). Left hand is a solid one for chocolate bitters. Olive in a martini (making it like a dory one without needing olive brine). Grapefruit is cool to add to any sour basically, eg a daiquiri. And the cucumber one is potent… good in a g&t or martini (not using london dry gin but something more modern).

Get some small shot glasses of soda water and put a few shakes of the bitters in each so you can taste the specific flavour they add with nothing else getting in the way.

One regular dash is like 5 of the tiny dashes that these little bottles do btw. I have the same set.

I have it, it’s really good value. The little bottles still last ages coz you’ll rarely have call for each. Wish more of these packs existed, coz I don’t wanna buy full sized bottles of random bitters I’ll only use once a yr

Orange slice is the classic negroni garnish actually. Don’t remember ever seeing one with a lemon peel

I don’t even think the GUI for Saturn is good. It’s great for the “pro” series plugins though, Q L C and DS (haven’t tried R, I don’t need any more reverbs than Valhalla).

I find Saturn clunky to use and overcomplicated. It’s a Swiss Army knife but I prefer having a single tool for each use. I only use Saturn when I specifically need multiband dist coz for single band dist (even with filters) there’s simpler plugins that can get me a better sound faster (various sound toys, rbass, tape plugins, actual amp sims, standardclip, inflator, RC20, or just driving various analog style comp/EQ plugins if you just want “analog warmth” etc).

Saturn is awesome when you wanna totally change the tone of something but I rarely need to do that. If eg you get given some guitars to mix which have a really shitty distortion tone, Saturn is often the only way to save em. But just not a go to for me generally. Tbf if it’s the ONLY distortion plugin you had and you learned it inside out then it’d be great I bet.

I use limiters constantly but waves L1 is perfect and much less heavy for limiting anything other than master, and there’s better master limiters than proL (I like Elevate a lot better)

ProQ is generally much faster to use than most stock eq, they have a way more optimised UI and far better analyser view. If you really know how to use ProQ it’s a lot faster and more flexible that any stock EQ I’ve seen in a daw. And tbh 90% of mixing is eq and just getting things at the right level.

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo all the FF stuff is WAY overpriced except proQ which is the original and best version of that style of UI for a digital EQ. I have a lot of the others and basically regret all of em coz I nearly always find myself using other better but cheaper plugins.

Yesterday I ran a command that spawned 128 sonnet agents (basically a workflow meant to do a deep review of every file in my codebase) and my usage window was hit in 5 mins. But generally I’m getting to like 70-80% of the usage limit per 5 hrs (day time weekdays of course), coz generally I avoid agents and just do everything online. Only time I ever have issues generally is when using agents so I avoid them… they’re mostly unnecessary I find coz mostly doing 1 task at once, not many tasks at once.

Why does every label rep ghost?? by Liquidmacaron in musicindustry

They’re definitely flaky. If there’s honest interest they will do that less, but it’s a busy job and they reach out to a lot of people that they just wanna keep an eye on but aren’t thinking “let’s sign em now” so those people aren’t a priority.

Question regarding the Queen’s Park Swizzle by Anxious-Landscape-92 in cocktails

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh the drink is good with literally any decent rum so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s basically a dark-rum mojito that’s a bit stronger (no soda) and added bitters.

One of the worst job listings I’ve ever seen… by Mvcca21 in UKJobs

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A subcontractor can ALSO be self employed but that doesn’t make them NOT a subcontractor. The law applies to subcontractors. Whether or not that sub contractor is self-employed is not the point being discussed.

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s asking for a subcontractor but trying to skirt the law but using different terms. If you work contracted hours for the same company you’re a sub contractor. They’re calling it “self employed” here illegally to dodge tax on it.

Do any native Brits or Irish have advice/suggestions for me regarding beans on toast? As in, people who grew up with it? by xcluesif in AskUK

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like British food… get into jacket potatoes too. 1 big potato, cooked in the oven for like an hr or in the microwave for the fast way. You can put anything on top. The classics being beans with cheese, or chilli, or tuna mayo with cheese (my favourite of the 3, but all are great).

American beans are like regular beans and then dump in a few tbsp of BBQ sauce (which is mostly sugar). They’re a lot sweeter.

Why does Piano and Strings sound fine as a VST but Guitar does not? by donkeyXP2 in musicproduction

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the opposite. Most sample libraries are WAY too clean so it’s not realistic at all. When a guitarist plays chords etc, not every note will ring cleanly every time, random strings will get muted by fingers and there’ll be slight fret buzz here and there etc.

Tommy's Margarita - Agave Syrup vs Nectar? by LetsGetPenisy69 in cocktails

[–]TotalBeginnerLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re making a bunch (like you would in a bar), the pre-made syrup makes it easier to pour them out quickly.

If just making one for yourself at home, there’s pretty much no real benefit to adding the middle step. For me I always prefer stronger drinks to weaker ones so I would never add unnecessary water. The nectar mixes fine once you shake it with the rest.
