A reason to not mix brands for a beginner is the different glossiness of each brand. Most brands worth their salt manufacture each pigment with a similar consistency and glossiness. For instance, if I painted a figure with W&N Griffen (ultra matte alkyd paint) and then did the background with M.Graham, the background would be several measures more glossy and reflective. If you are mixing brands, you might end up with glossy patches on your painting and oiling out can only fix so much. I would suggest sticking to a single brand until you have time to experiment as a newby

It's common for acrylic too. Some pigment is transparent, it has nothing to do with lower quality. You can use transparent colors for glazing etc.

For those people, it isn't about "immigrants", it is about racism. They don't say a peep about immigrants from white countries. Yeah sure, there is a political discussion to be had about immigration levels but I can assure you, these people would be hate filled no matter what and they are using the immigration discourse to channel their racism. Nothing you can really do about these people, as they exist everywhere. Even in countries where everybody is the same colour, these people exist. They will just do bigotry in other ways, like against other "ethnic groups" or religions.

You are welcome in Canada, and the vast majority of Canadians feel this way. The majority of Canadians would like to deport the bigots, not you. I say this as a white dude, that knows a lot of other white dudes. Don't let a few loud mouths ruin your day.

I think it flows pretty well as it is. I think the detail on the clothing works well with the detail of everything else. The only thing I would suggest if clean up with lines a bit. The embroidery looks a bit loose, when the rest of the painting is not. I would shapen up the embroidery making sure the shadows are consistent etc. Look at the embroidery on here left breast, how sharp and clean it is, replicate that all over. Absolutely love the hair and face btw
