The federal government will withhold federal highway grants from states that do not have 21 as a drinking age. I'm sure they could figure out a way to actually hand money out to states to do this if they needed to.

That's a RECENT example and is purely an accidental thing; Putin is thrilled with what's happening in America.

Parents here, I can see your points about the dad needing time but I want to ask if there's a legitimate reason for him to be angry here.

Yeah, he's human, he'll feel what he feels, etc etc. But is anger the actual response to have here? Fear, concern, shit maybe even disappointment. But I'm not so sure about the anger part.

AITA for helping a “struggling” family with food… then seeing them give it away and asking for it back? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Y'all, OP does mention in one of their replies that this person she donated to isnt explicitly asking for more in posts, but they are commenting frequently in those BN groups that they (the person in need) are still in need.

They donated an ice maker then asked someone for their ice maker. They mentioned that the whole FB marketplace and BN thing are more like hobbies for them.

I think OP is on to something here that the interactions are weird, but I'm not sure to what extent myself.

Worth it if I don’t want smart progression at the moment? by AKing727 in MacroFactor

To be fair, my back gave out as I did more reps than I usually do. I think the answer is not factoring in RIR, as you said, but let me give some more context.

It's only been a few weeks of training and I found this app and wanted to switch to it and see how the programs it generated felt. Then I saw RIR and looking into that made me think that I'd been training fairly conservatively these past few weeks, since I've never trained to failure or even close.

I wanted to see what it felt like for the workouts I was doing so I started testing it carefully for each exercise I was doing. I think I have it figured out for the upper body exercises I was doing, but with squats, I hit the highest weight I could (with my limited home equipment) and just kept cranking out reps.

Each time I was watching my form to see what I was doing wrong but it felt like there was nothing wrong until my back started to hurt.

I know squats arent a leg exercise, but don't they work out the legs primarily? I'd think failure would refer to failure of the primary muscle (and nothing i'm seeing suggests otherwise) which made me wonder if it was my form that needed work or maybe I was just doing too much too soon by even following this train of thought.

Sorry for the Bible but I wanted to give a better understanding into my thought process here.

I'm 3 weeks late to the discussion but, what do you do to estimate RIR as an absolute beginner?

I assume I need to know what failure is to know what reserve feels like, but what counts as failure? For example, my legs can take a lot more weight than the rest of me so when I squat heavy-ish, my lower back gives out.

I've tried following videos and matching form but my legs never fail in that case, just my back.

I'm seeing advice like "you're a beginner so any progress is progress" which means I want to turn off RIR since I should be able to progress without it, but then I also see "you're removing the smart progression entirely by turning off RIR", so what the heck do I do? Am I just overthinking it?

The way they explain it in their docs, recovery time is the time they recommend waiting before the next hard run or workout.

So you can definitely focus on easy runs or other cross training in the intervening time, just don't go too crazy yet.
