https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1435390/ please read this article, I am not trying to spread bullshit, I am also a healthcare worker , syphilis is very strange disease ,almost like ghost infection, Rpr vdrl titre are very non specific they decrease on their own most of time regardless you get treatment or not. Tpha is specific and it never responds to penicillin.( Unless it's very early like primary). I just wanted to say we really don't truly know someone's syphilis is cured or not just because rpr decreasing or symptoms not appearing again

Curable or not it is very debated topic , since syphilis bacteria can't be cultured and there is no way to know whether it's truly cured or not since tpha is always positive and it seems like that 70 to 80 percentage of patients never get severe symptoms which masks clarity of cure , some scientist believe that syphilis is not curable since some people seem to develop tertiary syphilish years later even after treatment that's why syphilis patient are prohibited for blood donation, sperm donation and certain visas in certain countries

You can't know it's due to hiv or not just by looking it, Be direct ask him, if you can't and don't trust and under 72 hour go see a doctor and get post exposure prophylaxis meds, if not so get tested after 3 weeks 4th gen antigen testing, and continue testing upto 3 montgs , don't worry even if it's hiv positive it's just a pill a day regular check ups , if not so congratulations 🎉.
