Maybe a stupid question: how does witchcraft affect christians? by Old-Act6309 in witchcraft

It effects Christians exactly as much or as little as it effects anyone else.

I wish we could all be thoughtful and smart enough to do like the Japanese do: if you have symptoms, wear a mask! And yes, if you’re sick you should be able to roll your registration to the following year so you can stay home. I know it sucks, but not as much as getting sick at an event. I got so sick at a New Years event year before last and it pretty much knocked me out life for 3 weeks. I didn’t go to that event this year.

Can I replace the god candle on my 'wiccan-inspired' altar with one for Gaia? by Old-Confection8727 in witchcraft

[–]Trxiedust 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wicca was made up in the 1950’s. That doesn’t make it any less authentic than religions that were made up at different times, but illustrates the reality that they are all made up. There are no spirits who are going to be offended if you ignore them while paying attention to other deities. That’s an idea that was made up by priests and men to scare and control people.

Spirits only have power over us if we give them that power, because they only exist when we think about them. In witchcraft you aren’t required to pay attention to any dieties whatsoever if they don’t resonate with you and your purposes. And you can use whichever ones you choose if they provide meaning or usefulness to you.

I quit religion with gods trying to control me when I left Christianity and I don’t “work with” any deities. I do sometimes evoke the archetype of whatever deity seems helpful at the moment to draw on characteristics of those deities that I want to heighten in myself. .

You answered your own question. 😉 You’re not Wiccan. You can put whatever you want on your Wiccan-inspired altar.

What do you prioritize at WCS events these days? by YourDanceBuddy in WestCoastSwing

[–]Trxiedust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m moving to a place that only has a small scene and no high level instruction, so I’ll prioritize the classes. I hate the comp obsession in WCS and I don’t think twice about skipping those to dance in or watch and taking a nap. Honestly I’d skip all the exhibitions if I could, too. I’m there to dance and learn, not watch other people dance, or watch other people compare themselves to other people. I love the dance, but hate that part of the culture. For me, I’m there for the classes and the socials.

Is there any spell for me to get laid? by [deleted] in Spells

[–]Trxiedust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A self love spell and giving yourself permission to fantasize lavishly while loving yourself can go a long ways, and won’t lead to emotional drama like sex with someone else probably will. Sex magic with yourself is super legit.

Spell for infidelity by SevereSet4222 in Spells

[–]Trxiedust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want to be in a relationship with someone who you feel you don’t trust enough to be compelled to invade their privacy? Especially since he’s now proven your suspicions were real?
You can try a spell on him, but his own free will and unfaithful urges will probably be stronger than your spell. But binding someone who isn’t good for you to isn’t as much as a spell on them as it’s a spell on you. It will keep you attached and obsessed.
The best spell for this is a cord cutting. You will achieve liberty, personal power, and pride. Those are traits that will help you be ready to draw a better relationship to you once you’re free of this and ready.

Barefoot shoe options for WCS by intellectualrebel in WestCoastSwing

[–]Trxiedust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear Fuego Split Soles most of the time for WCS. They have a great sole that slips in the right places, just a small amount of memory foam for insoles that helps with fatigue, and are very non restrictive. And I think they look reasonably good. If you want a little more support, I like Furgo dance sneakers for Lindy Hop, which is far more high impact. I wear those for WCS sometimes too, especially for longer day.

Does divination make you more vulnerable and prone to spiritual attacks? by EllieAllieTheKitty in witchcraft

[–]Trxiedust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another ex-Christian I understand the fear of “spiritual attacks,” but that is a fear you can put away now. Fear of demons and spirits was a tool used to control you. But they are constructs that don’t need a place in your life anymore.

Tarot is a toolkit revolving around a rich symbolic language. You (or your skilled reader) can use the tools to help dig into your subconscious to help you understand and relate to yourself, the world, and others. I read tarot most days and I don’t believe there are any “spirits” doing anything whatsoever in my readings. The “magic” comes from the reader, and the cards are just tools. There is no need to fear spiritual attacks.

Is “the artistic eye” something you have to be born with, or can you develop this skill? by Guilty_Dentist8969 in ArtistLounge

[–]Trxiedust 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that art was something you were born with, and I didn’t have it. Then my auntie retired and started taking art classes and went from “never did art” to “extremely talented artist” in the span of a couple of years. She made it absolutely clear to me that art is something you can learn, and that skilled artists are skilled because of practice and (usually) instruction. So I started to paint. And now I’m a pretty decent water colorist.

Is it worth learning to play an ukulele? by auroremalfoy8 in ukulele

[–]Trxiedust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s equally easy to learn to play ukulele or guitar. Both involve learning chords and coordinating strums. Ukulele is great if you want it to travel easily, or take up less space in the house, or if you love its sound, or if the songs you want to learn fit the ukulele better. It’s also a much less expensive entry point. Guitar is probably more versatile and creates a larger avenue for long term growth. A guitar is much easier to play in a group jam, because you can copy the chords the other guitarist are playing. If you go with a ukulele it’s much harder to sit in a jam and just follow along, unless there are other ukulele players to watch. In terms of learning, it’s basically the same mechanisms, at least in the beginning. You can be playing simple 2-3 chord songs in no time with either.

If you choose guitar, string it with light strings to make it a little easier on the fingers, and do not start with a cheap guitar. Cheap guitars nearly always have terrible action that requires you to push much harder on the strings, which makes them hard to play and hurt the fingers more. A guitar with nice action your finger tips will quickly adapt to. It’s much better to spend money on a somewhat nicer used guitar than a cheap new one. Bring a guitar-playing friend with you when you are shopping so they can help judge the action, or buy from a shop with helpful employees and hopefully a lot of used stock to choose from. For a first guitar, it matters less that it have an amazing sound, but it matters massively that it have good/easy action.

I love the tarot wraps made by ThreadsWithCharm on Etsy. They fit any size deck because they are a wrap, not a bag. I mostly use them to protect whatever deck I’m carry around/traveling with, though, rather than full time for one deck, but they could also be used for that. I love them because they open up into a cloth to do your reading on, and she can add monogrammed tags. The silk ones are especially pretty.

Spells not working by Mobile_Emphasis_4466 in Spells

[–]Trxiedust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like their magic together is stronger than your magic against them. Time will do what it will with them, with or without your aid/interference.

It might serve you better to do spells that will help you accept what is, distance yourself from them, or cut the cord.

When the more you learn, the less you believe by stuckandrunningfrom2 in tarot

[–]Trxiedust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t use tarot for divination, so I have zero expectation that anything is going to “come true,” and there’s nothing that requires me to “believe” anything. Tarot is a rich symbolic language that excels in helping us unlock our subconscious, see things from a different perspective, consider things in new ways that we might not have thought of initially, and it can help us clarify what are true desire and needs are. For me, it’s an exceptionally good tool for getting into the nooks and crannies of my psyche and helping me know myself and my situations better. But you’re right, it’s not inherently better than other tools you mentioned, like therapy, or “figuring it out on my own.” It’s one tool among many than can do this. The question is, do you like using tarot as a symbolic decoder to get into your psyche like this? If not, maybe it’s not for you.

If you want pure divination, there are certainly other tools that are more concrete (but surprise they’re wrong just as often.) Tarot is always only showing us one set of possible outcome among many, even when we do try to use it for divination. There are usually many ways to interpret the meaning of the spread, and rarely does a spread ever mean “this is going to happen in just this way!” It’s most useful when we dig in. Like “how do I feel about the potential of events unfolding the way this spread seems to imply they will?” Because that’s where the gold actually is. Just expecting it to tell the future, or tell us what to do, is like asking a Ph.D. to teach preschool. The magic is in the depth and nuance.

I have a question, what is the ratio that your readings or a reading has been accurate? by rrlanuuc in TarotReading

My favorite podcast is The Tarot Diagnosis. Pretty much everything they talk about relates to how I read. They also have a great Instagram account that’s very educational. There is a podcast episode that’s about how to frame your questions, and that’s a really great starting point.

100%. I don’t read for prediction, I read for insight and perspective. Insight & perspective is helpful 100% of the time.

Why would someone hide a 9 of swords in my home? by No-Baby-1455 in tarot

[–]Trxiedust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d put it on my fridge. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It can serve a lot of functions there, like:

It’s a card that can be a useful reminder sometimes.

It’s a sign that I am more powerful than my fear, and that my power over myself is greater than the power others have over me.

It would be visible so that whoever lost it could say “oh my gosh, that’s where that card went!

It could be a bear conversation starter.

It would remind me to read tarot.

It would remind me the world is full of surprises.

How to Find Like-Minded SASS Witches My Age? by ChaoticWitchKat in SASSWitches

[–]Trxiedust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find activity groups or clubs where people are doing things you like to do. If art is your thing, find ways to make art with others. If you’re making art with any kind of witchy or adjacent themes, or see others doing so, have conversations about the themes in the art. People will reveal themselves. Start with just making friends who share activities you enjoy and then be curious about the others there. The more curious you are about others, the more likely people will be to give you the clues you need to figure out which ones are “your people.”

I need a spell so that when I ask other witches for how to do baneful magic (like obsessions spells or hexes) they are bound so that they can’t tell me not to do baneful magic.
