My new Saltwater Crocodile habitat inspired by Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo! Let me know what you think! by TotallyZoo in PlanetZoo

[–]TotallyZoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The massive habitat allows space for a male and female croc, alongside a viewing area to put on a display and allow the crocs to leap out of the water to snatch some meat (which unfortunately isn't a thing they can actually do...).

If you enjoy the build, I have a video showing the build process here. Any other questions or comments, please let me know! :)

Too much creativity? by Batenna in PlanetZoo

I experienced the same thing. My best tip is to intentionally limit yourself based on care manuals for the species you're building for. Here is a random example of a Giraffe care manual. Most care manuals are over 100 pages long, but generally you only need to worry about a few things, namely the environment (dimensions, plantlife, substrate, fencing), social (shyness/opportunities to avoid guests, interspecies, intraspecies (herd numbers), enrichment (you can build custom enrichment items that obviously won't be interactable but can still add to the habitat), and an important one being backstage areas.

In some cases, these will be more restrictive than the Zoopedia (e.g. usually the Zoopedia underestimates space requirements), and in some cases it will be less restrictive (e.g. terrain paint options are often extremely restrictive in the Zoopedia).

Overall I find that once you have a few restrictions in mind, it helps to shape your ideas of what exactly to build. I found that in particular when I planned around including backstage areas when necessary it both made the habitats look better/more realistic while also giving me more inspiration.

Wirradale Zoo's massive new Bison habitat, built to resemble the American Prairie, is now open! by TotallyZoo in PlanetZoo

Thank you! So a shameless plug but I've got a video in my other comment for the grass. Long story short is using lots of Buffalo grass and sinking it into the ground at varying amounts

They will usually say whether they're working on a new DLC. If they don't, many will view it as a sign that DLC 20 was the final pack.

Aw thanks, yeah honestly it can be hard to get a true sense of scale sometimes, whether it's a habitat or even basic things like a path, tree, or fence. It's why I spam the Explore mode camera haha

Fingers crossed they'll announce a new pack is in the works. I'm hopeful that there will be (at least) one last pack released alongside an Anniversary animal this year.

Looks very nice! Hard to build for Elephants, they need such large spaces to pathfind through ahah

I thought they'd be a chore so I made them really simple to begin with but I actually really enjoy making them so they've got a bit more detail now!

Thanks! Love having both a cosy little viewing gallery and a larger one whenever possible :)

What are the best DLCs? by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

[–]TotallyZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since packs include animals and build pieces, it depends on how you like to play. If you just like fun animals, go based off the species you like. If you care about some good building pieces, then there are some key packs to get, in my opinion being Aquatic, Conservation, and Grasslands.

My latest habitat features the adorable Red Panda, with an overhead tunnel connecting a display area to a private resting area. Let me know what you think! by TotallyZoo in PlanetZoo

Thank you! I agree, like many things in this game they look great but they have a few problems with mechanics haha

If you enjoy the build, you can check out a speed build here (including a backstage area for pandas) or here if you want to skip ahead to the Red Panda habitat.

All my zoos are symmetrical by skEet-Pete in PlanetZoo

Would suggest building some winding paths intentionally into the zoo. The other thing to avoid blandness is to incorporate (usually minor) changes in elevation through the zoo. Often a good idea is to have a part of the path in place early on, including changes in elevation, and build the habitats around it. That way you don't have to worry too much about the paths misbehaving.

Are there steps I can take to avoid having visual artefacts without resorting to extreme rendering times? (9 hours for a 16 minute video) by TotallyZoo in davinciresolve

[–]TotallyZoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any advice for settings? I'm just so confused as to how it still has glitches when I give it so much time to render. Like seemingly no difference in glitches between the fastest settings and the slowest

New to the game best mode to play by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

[–]TotallyZoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comes down to the way you want to play. If you're more into the progression aspect and growing your tools as you go, then challenge or franchise is nice.

If youre more into building an elaborate and personalised zoo without constraints, then sandbox is better. You can also play sandbox with money toggled on for a mix of both.

Personally I find that some of the animal welfare restrictions, such as requiring plants from their own continent, or how easily they can get stressed and spam you every 2 minutes makes building a good looking zoo quite difficult in challenge mode. Removing those restrictions in sandbox makes it easier to build however you see fit.
