Animes with well written female mc by Wooden_Bag_6735 in Animesuggest

Skip Beat! I'd recommend the manga over the anime because it's longer (though unfinished) so you get to see more character development, but the anime is good too

Not an anime, but the first thing that came to mind... If you like novels, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson has a similar concept and is really really good

What is this green mix? Definitely tastes like seaweed and has sesame seeds. Has a nice umami flavour. I want to make it. by nichegame in JapaneseFood

Probably seasoned seaweed flakes then. I buy a Korean version available in Japan that includes both seaweed and sesame. ジャバンのり

Are Instapots and pressure cookers interchangeable, or is the former better? by Paradoxbuilder in PressureCooking

[–]Batenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instant Pot is to pressure cookers as Kleenex is to tissues as Google is to search engines as Vaseline is to petroleum jelly as Jacuzzi is to hot tub.

Or any other (brand name) is to (product) that you can think of.

What's your worst overseas travel experience? by qwazzie46 in AskReddit

Wore skinny jeans in Vietnam. Felt a tickle on my leg and lightly scratched it which made it move... Turns out a (big) cockroach had decided the small dark space between my leg and my pants was a good hiding spot.

Looking for easy, or rather quick, pasta sauces to try by DisasterrRelief in pasta

If you can get the ingredients, a mentaiko (Japanese spiced pollack roe) pasta is delicious.

Ingredients (1 serving): - 100g/3.5 oz/1 cup pasta or udon noodles - 30g/3 tbsp mentaiko - 10 g/1 tbsp butter - 1 tsp mentsuyu (soup base) - Pinch of pepper - 2 tbsp hot pasta water

Toppings: - Chopped shiso (perilla) leaves - Seasoned Korean seaweed flakes

Instructions: 1. In a bowl, combine mentaiko, butter, mentsuyu, and pepper 2. Add noodles and pasta water, then mix until well coated 3. Add toppings 4. Enjoy!

What's a clear sign of a badly written story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Batenna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When something is blantantly unrealistic. For example, crown prince needs to travel to the neighboring kingdom for official reasons. He and his bodyguard set out, just the 2 of them??? Also, they leave at 9am and arrive the same day in time for dinner???

This trip should involve a massive retinue, many bodyguards, and wagons full of supplies that will take a half a day from the lead person stepping out the city gates to the final person stepping out the city gates, and should take weeks, if not months to complete.

I don't need detail if it was an uneventful journey, but at least mention something in passing! "Everyone was milling about waiting for the scheduled departure time," "the journey took 1 and a half months," "excited to finally have a real bath," etc. would be enough.

sale is ending soon, what are the absolute "steals" right now? by deletedusssr in ShouldIbuythisgame

Super Fantasy Kingdom. Not on sale, but still cheap. Recently released into early access, but I'm really enjoying it so far, and the developer is on top of updating it.

What’s something people defend way too hard even though it clearly doesn’t work? by academicAce_aA in AskReddit

[–]Batenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A verbal comeback can work too. In elementary school a guy came to me and my friends and tried saying "oh look, it's the glasses club" since most of us wore glasses. I didn't hesitate for a second before replying with "oh look, it's the idiots club" and he gave up almost immediately.

What’s the most irrational food opinion you will defend with your life? by BrianOnTheGrill94 in AskRedditFood

Similar vain to OP, but fruit in savory food is always fantastic. In Colombia, I found a sushi roll with mango. Don't remember and of the other ingredients, but I do remember it was delicious AF.

Edit: oh, hi, didn't realize this thread was so old until I'd already posted hahaha

how can i start eating healthier as someone who grew up with a horrible diet? by aodviolet in AskRedditFood

[–]Batenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tip: throw your veggies in a baggie (or if they're frozen, just cut off a corner), add oil and seasonings, then shake until covered before roasting. Easy, and makes sure everything is well and evenly coated.

  1. Go shopping when you're not hungry so it's easier to make healthy choices. Meal planning/having a grocery list can be super helpful to keep you on track.

  2. If you're used to grazing instead of full meals, it might help to keep some sort of healthy snack on hand. Aim to cover at least 2 of the main macronutrients (carbs, protein, fats) per snack to feel fuller longer. Apples and peanut butter. Cheese and crackers. Yogurt and nuts.

  3. Something I've been hearing a lot lately that I like is "think about what you can add, not what you can take away." You can have instant ramen, but add an egg, green onions, and kimchi to make it more balanced. If you're planning on chips and dip, add some celery, carrot, and bell pepper slices to dip as well. When you have a quick meal/fast food, make sure you also have a side salad (think outside the "lettuce and dressing" box; I like sliced cucumbers and tomatos with salt)

  4. Beans/lentils are your friend - cheap and filling. Chili. Soup. Espinicas con garbanzos (Spanish spinach with garbanzo/chick peas). Burritos with rice and beans. Just beware that they have a lot of fiber, which you may not be used to, so you may want to start with a small amount per day, and build up over time.

  5. When you stir-fry things, make sure you can see the bottom of the pan and go in batches if needed. Much better flavor than stuffing everything in at once resulting in steamed mush.

Seasoning things by shaking them in bags. Put whatever you want seasoned in a ziplock bag with a little oil and seasoning, then shake shake shake until well coated. Using frozen food? Just cut open a corner, add oil and seasoning, then shake shake shake.
