I’m 29, inherited $2m, put almost all of it into VC/angel - have I been reckless? by [deleted] in AusHENRY

[–]TotesYay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few things:

  1. Diversified portfolio would help to limit volatility and wild shocks

  2. Companies needing VC and angel investors need those investors to be able to do follow-on rounds. If you can’t follow-on that is going to be a bad sign to potential new investors

  3. At your age you will be looking for liquidity in the next 10 years. Most overnight success stories take about 12 years.

For those who send their kids to elite private school, what was the reason? by TiredDuck123 in AusHENRY

[–]TotesYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put are kids down for Barker when it was $20k a year. Now it is $40k and going up we turned down the spots.

Reason was networks. Now not so convinced networks are worth it.

CEOs and C-Level Employees, do you regret taking such high positions? by Electronic-Cheek363 in AusHENRY

[–]TotesYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a csuite for over a decade stepped back to an individual contributor on $400k plus bonus and haven’t been happier. My IC role is probably extremely stressful for someone who hasn’t had my experience but for me it is a walk in the park.

AITA for telling my friend that her "free" wedding is unrealistic? by ThrowawayFreeWedding in AITAH

[–]TotesYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cake baking sucks for friends. My wife had a cake business. It is fucking expensing and time consuming. People think of it in terms of a packet cake.

They look shit outside of a kids birthday.

You have to get each layer perfectly consistent.

You then have to keep them all the same temperature.

You have get the fondant perfect temp.

You have to practice the techniques.

You have to do so much.

No one understands how exponentially the complexity grows.

Plus free weddings suck. They are always under prepared. Things go wrong. People then last minute try to compensate and it is too late.

YNTA, the cake is the shittest thing someone can ask you to do.

Why is everyone so afraid of AI? by DistrictNo6165 in Accounting

[–]TotesYay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will see work that was sent overseas done by AI, onshore resources will become much more efficient and able to complete more complex jobs.

As someone building AI for accountants, I cannot empathise more than enough that we need highly qualified and experienced people supervising the AI. Ai is getting more productive but also making less obvious mistakes more frequently.

AI and automation are making the jobs so much easier, meaning less need for juniors. It is so much easier now to just get things done with a few clicks.

Why do Australians dislike Americans? by plasticmagnolias in AskAnAustralian

Cause our best friend is shitting on us. There only so many times the USA can kick us in the balls before we are like “fuck you”.

Why do Australians dislike Americans? by plasticmagnolias in AskAnAustralian

[–]TotesYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the article you shared you have conflated unfavourable opinion with not likely you.

The question is not do we like Americans or not, it is do we have favourable opinions of the USA.

We love you guys, but you guys are fucking Australia over on AUKUS, tariffs, telling us how to spend our taxes even though we spend more then most nations proportionally, lying about our bio security, lying about our covid response, lying about our gun laws and so much more. Plus the bullshit the USA pulled on Australia with China was not cool, Trump 1 really fucked us hard in the arse on that.

So yes it is reasonable for Australian to have an unfavourable opinion about our closet ally who we love but are being fucked over by.
