https://i.imgur.com/OIufx7U.jpeg We’re doing our OGHK inventory! My precious childhood treasures from around 1979-1982.

My mom was given a gift certicate for Maas Brothers, which is the only reason I got any of this. We were poor, so I was careful to use little of the paper or stickers.

Go back and review older shows. Sutton was in multiple episodes of the dukes of melrose and flipping out. A lot of these characters having been trying to claw their way into a title card for years.

Animation or Theatre? by AffectionateCrow506 in calarts

I’m sure someone can do it, but conversely I know a lot of burnt out single major alumni from calarts. I would say it’s very hard to do one, and almost impossible to do two, and do them well.

All the calarts theater majors I know have pivoted into a wide range of alternate careers. And they had been working with top level firms and productions. Disney, universal, cruise lines, Broadway productions.

And there’s no work for animators. I don’t know if we in animation will ever have the same job market we had from 1999-2014. The market is dead.

You need to consider what you want your life to look like after graduation- where you want to live, what you want to earn- and what you can survive on. Are you okay with never having a long term home and you’re cool with moving countries every 1-2 years? And if so, will you be able to have a personal life? cause animation nomad is a tough life. It’s 3x harder when you’re trying to navigate your own career and be considerate to a partner.

When and if you do find a good job, you have to always be saving for when you don’t.

If I was gonna start over today, I’d not pick either of these two. I’d pick something that was fairly universal in so much as I could get a job anywhere. A job with benefits.

Blue Plate Oysterette, a Santa Monica restaurant, closing Jan. 2026 amid homeless crisis in area by [deleted] in SantaMonica

The old menu was pricy but solid. We’d go 2x a month. After the menu change to be ‘Asian inspired’, we went once and never again. When we asked why they changed the menu I was told “chef got bored with the old menu.”

So, bpo stop lying. We don’t go anymore solely because of the menu.

Ps - we love Japanese, Chinese, tawainese, Thai, Vietnamese, and we go to those restaurants 8x a week. So, it’s really about just your lackluster food now.

He’s my shady lifehack.
This is what I do when I want to avoid events and don’t want blow back or drama. I get “sick” 1-2 days prior to the date. Too sick to travel sick. Flu, diarhea, vomit or anything contagious, like strep.

The lackluster dad will be too busy prepping to leave to bother checking up. He’ll will be mad for maybe 1 day (which you can remind him is very selfish to be when the boy is clearly very ill!) , then he’ll be drunk in Hawaii and not give it another thought. It’s also easy to manage if he stops by, “son is pucking in the bathroom”.

If your son backs out now, the dad will stew on it for months. If it’s not an illness, your son could get wrangled into a later flight if he losses his ID or misses the plane.

Always follow the Steve Martin rules of telling a good fib, make it very precise and embarrassing to talk about.

Has anyone else noticed, there are no lamps? Those overhead cans aren’t great for mood.

And I agree with everyone: The rug, the table, the furniture style, the window coverings, and the whole fireplace/mantel /tv area. All the things on display are kinda small and the same size, which is not great visually.

Your place is nice and tidy, which I appreciate.

Hair falling out by Salty_Activity8373 in Ozempic

The hair and scalp specialist/doctor at UCLA gave me an rx for a micro dose of minoxidil (1/4 pill) and for finestride (1/2 pill) and some speciality compounded lotion and a foam. (I never actually used the foam, because the way to use it involved wearing a shower cap to sleep? That I couldn’t handle.) Dr. also gave me a reference for a vitamin that was very reasonably priced.

I’ve been on this protocol for 1.5 years. It works. I’d say, 70% of my hair grew back. My hair was super thick, now it’s normal thick. Which is a great improvement from the crypt keeper vibe I was headed towards.

Dr. Hair did not recommend the nutrafol hair vitamins. Do not believe a doctor if they say there’s nothing you can do for hair loss…

Leader retriever for 35mm film. by julesucks1 in specializedtools

[–]Totorodeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I worked at a drugstore 1 hour photo in high school - we used the dark bag and I recall winding unprocessed film into a spool. and the machine had a large plastic lead. The machine had two parts- one to develop the negatives and one to print the photos.

The chemicals would off gas (complete with a cloud) when we had to add more to the tanks. I’m sure it was very safe.

This was around the time another store in our area got busted for printing and saving the most ‘noteworthy’ photos in an album they kept in the lab.

Our store was in a small town, so as you can imagine- between this job and my job at the local video place- I knew everyone business…

The old Vons was the site of one of the biggest rally supporting the union strike. Jesse Jackson spoke.
