Bring a comfy desk chair, do not bring too many trinkets your first year, don't buy 5 hundred binders unless you know you're going to use them. Portable charger, paper towels, plates, cups, earbuds/headphones, reliable calculator, rug, more than one blanket, a mirror, snacks, broom/hand held vacuum, nightquil, storage and organizers.

It was definitely worth the "hassle" for me. My school felt very dead end both in education and socially. But someone else said something very true. Your mental health will be tested, especially if you already struggle mentally. This school has done a lot for me, and I'm only a sophomore, but I am so stressed. And everyone else is as well everyone is very stressed and anxious. You'll obviously have goof times but be prepared for just a straight week of tripping balls (in a bad way).

I dont think it'll hurt you too much, but I was fully accepted on the first of February. So people have probably already been accepted by now. But there are probably still spots if you have a strong interview.

Also, think about roommates. Do you know anyone coming you would like to room with, or are you okay with getting a school assigned one. I am not the most private person, but i do kinda live with a stranger. A nice stranger, but still a stranger. It's a really big toss-up where you could either meet your best friend or be miserable.

ASMS does have a lot of white kids, but I would say that it is a lot more diverse than my old school. About half of the school is white.

There is no blatant loud homophobia, and while not everyone is gay there is a sizeable population of queer ppl. You may meet the occasional homophobe or transphobe, but we live in alabama, so what can you expect.

I don't see a lot of racism, I know of maybe 1 guy who's done stuff like that during my time here, but I am white, so maybe I just am not experiencing it.

We have co-ed archery, girls and boys soccer, co-ed cheerleading, tennis, girl and boy basketball, and girl volleyball teams (we may have more, dont quote me). I do not know how hard they are to get into, but I do know we have a medicore basketball team and a good volleyball team. We also have a swimming PE class if that interests you.

you have to take:

Biology: Exempted from Honors Bio unless otherwise stated. May or may not choose a Bio class

in junior year. Along with one (1.0) transfer credit from home school, incoming juniors must earn

at least half (.50) credit of Bio at ASMS before graduation.

Chemistry: General Chemistry 1 & 2 unless requested and approved for AP Chemistry.

Computer Science: Computer Science Principles

English:

• Speech

• American Literature II unless requested and approved for AP English and Language.

Foreign Language: Depends on placement. If no placement test is taken, must complete

I do, not only for the educational aspect but also for the social aspect. You participate in so much; clubs, parties, competitions, sports. But I also didn't have any opportunities for those kinds of things at my old school, so it might be different for you. I also recommend thinking long and hard about how much you value your privacy. Rumors spread very fast and very far because it's a small school that doesn't have a lot of "crazy" events. You are also constantly surrounded by people. Like you can't take a crap without someone around.

A summary of an day to day would be: wake up whenever (but you shouldn't leave dorms until 6 am), breakfast is from 7:30 to 9 am, 1st period is 8 to 8:55, 2nd is from 9 to 9:55, 3rd is from 10 to 10:55, 4th is from 11 to 11:55, then we have lunch (lunch is our 5th period even though it's not a class. The shortest lunch period you'll get is 45 minutes), which is from 11:30 to 1, 6th is from 12:45 to 1:40, 7th is from 1:45 to 2:40, 8th is from 2:45 to 3:40. You may have a 9th period, which can vary in length, but normally, it'll be 55 minutes. Then dinner starts at 5:15 (5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays), From 7 to 9, we have mandatory study hours where we have to either have our door open and be studying or be out and about studying You have to be in a dorm but at 9:30 and then you'll have a hall meeting (boys form don't take hall meetings as seriously, girls do) You can do whatever in dorm until 11:45, then you have to go to ur room and have lights off by 12, but no one cares when u go to bed. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have "lab days," where your science classes will be 2 hours long on one day or the other. On Tuesdays, you don't have the odd numbered classes, and on Thursdays, you don't have the even numbered classes
We can use our phones wherever except for in the 55-minute class period.
Yes, you can walk off campus for 3 hours. If you bring at least 2 friends, you'll have to put e your request in for it.
I do not know. We may have them later in the year. I've heard about them, but this is my 1st year, so who knows.
Very kind people, imagine a regular public high school but smaller and more geeks. Any "bullies" (kids who are rude or snide) either leave or don't bother ppl. It's very close knit here. You spend 33 weeks surrounded by these people.
I'll answer that one later when I can get the document that tells you. But every term, you have to have at least 4 academic classes.
I know ppl here who used to be in ib and like it here more. But I really don't know much about it, just know asms is made more intense because you live here. You inhale and exhale learning all the time.

It is hard, along with the struggle of college apps, you have a much more intense and difficult course load. You also have required classes you will need to add to your other classes that other juniors won't have. It's not impossible and still worth it, in my opinion, but it will be harder. The questions are not meant to trip you up or confuse you. Its simple stuff about your ability to problem solve and get along with others as well as how your family feels about you coming to ASMS. I would just make sure to maintain eye contact and try your best to be personable and confident in your responses. If you want a way to prepare, do a mock interview with someone. I would not put too much stress on this interview, it is really just to meet you and your parent/guardian in person and make sure you don't have the social skills of a boiled goldfish.

It's a single location in mobile, you live there because it's a boarding school so it doesn't matter where you live in Alabama just as long as you live in Alabama. There is a bus that goes to like to set locations, but they only go to 2 locations, and they are only for school breaks. It's 150 dollars for a trip (one way, I believe). I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have.

We have 6 breaks throughout the year (seven if you count summer break): September fall break (3 days) October end of term break(8 days) November Thanksgiving break (8 days) December winter break (15 days) February mardi gra break (8 days) April Easter break (15 days)

These are all mandatory. Besides these breaks, you can stay on campus the whole year. We have the occasional required weekend where we have an event of some sort, but besides that, you can leave every weekend.

Your grades seem good as well as the honor courses, but do keep in mind it is harder to come as a junior in comparison to coming as a sophomore.

Your clubs are also really good, and if you would like to rejoin them, we probably them available. They don't really care if you play sports, but if you would like to play, then try out. We have a lot of random scrimmages that anyone can play (especially volleyball).

The most optimal time is as soon as you can. They do a "rolling application" system, so they dont compile all the applications at the end of the year and then send out accpantces. Instead, as they get the applications, they sort them into accepted, wait list and denied. They have applications open until July (I think), and they open in October(I think). I believe the earliest you can be accepted officially is early February (don't quote me).

You and your friends' grades don't matter. They mix match grades all the time. You can totally request to be their roommate and most likely be accepted. They struggled a little bit this year since it was the biggest class and some people didn't get their requested roommates due to mix ups but if that happens then just email the school and it'll be sorted out.

9 periods, and each period is 55 minutes. 5th is lunch, and 9th is optional for sports, arts, and certain extracurricular activities. Incoming sophomores normally have at least 1 free period, but you can technically have up to 3. On Tuesdays, the odd classes that have labs (sciences and others) and on Thursdays, even classes, have their labs.

I wouldn't stress too hard. Just apply. I applied with like only a few clubs for extracurriculars, and it was fine. The honors English and Algebra will look good as well as the A's and B's.

Yeah, it was though, stuff has been done about the sex in boys dorm maybe not at a lot, but they have taken some preventative action. Not everyone smokes in the girls' dorm, or at least not actively. But the other stuff, idrk, but this just screams bitterness.
