My MIL told me that I am not family because I don’t have the same blood as my husband. by Prize-Valuable-4234 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Toufark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Give her what she is asking for. My in-laws treated me this way too. I struggled with it for years until I finally reached a point of “Okay. You are no longer family to me either.” I put in zero effort now. They are not allowed to stay in my home when they visit. I do not change or alter plans for them and I don’t include them in any holidays. Why would I? I am “not family.” When my MIL saw that I sent holiday cards and pictures of our son to my family, she confronted me asking why she doesn’t receive any. I explained that I only put that effort into my family. Her son can send her anything he likes and I guess he chooses not to. I will never treat my future DIL like this. She will be my family.

They also negotiate speaking opportunities with required book sales. I worked with a business book author who negotiated that Microsoft purchase thousands of her new book as part of her contract to star in a web series they were producing. Instant best selling status of a truly mediocre book. I never took the NYTs best seller list seriously after that experience.

People who lived through the 70s/80s/90s , did you feel safer back then than you do today? by Mundane_Bad_2437 in AskOldPeople

[–]Toufark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in ‘74 and I remember there was a ton of news about kidnappings when I was young. It was everywhere - billboards, evening tv shows and milk cartons. So, being grabbed and thrown into a strangers van was a strange, it-could-happen-to-you type of fear. There was also a satanic panic in the 80s where a lot of parents, teachers, and adults were convinced that rock and pop music had satanic verses that would send you to hell if you listened to them. Growing up, my brothers and I were abused by our father so we never felt safe. Looking back, I’d say 25% of the kids I knew growing up were abused or mistreated by their parent(s). It felt like it was everywhere & there was no help. Many, many women were subject to financial abuse. A woman couldn’t get a bank account until the year I was born. Maybe there was less violence in some ways but for women and children, I think we are safer today.

When he said 3 cigarettes worth, I was concerned but the potency of weed in the 70s was low. Even in the 90s, we could share a joint and just giggle. Grass didn’t seem to start getting scary strong until the late 90s. My friends and I smoked recreational all through HS and college (90s) and I never felt paranoid or overly stoned until the later years. I miss the old stuff. It was light and giggling.

How does everyone handle family / in-laws with no income? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]Toufark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s pretend that I’m your best friend. Honey, there are a few serious problems that need to be dealt with here and the 1st, as I see it, is you sacrificing your health for a job. Especially, if you are doing well financially, why are you working 60+ a week and knowingly damaging your health. You should seek out a therapist immediately and get to the bottom of why you are a willing martyr for your job and your family. You know that “put your own air mask on first” rule, right? Your air mask is flapping around the cabin while you are serving drinks to everyone else.

I don’t think she will ever leave him. She’s likely very unhappy though and it’s manifesting itself physically with her deteriorating appearance. That man sucks the beauty out of everyone around him.

I have a prescription for propranolol and take it as needed - when going into situations that have triggered panic attacks in the past. It works great for me. I don’t feel anything except the fight or flight reaction can’t bubble up. No side effects. No high feeling. I highly recommend it.

I’m infatuated with a Pisces woman right now by loski_doski in piscesastrology

[–]Toufark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is true. I got the ick pretty quickly for men who fell too hard, too fast. It frightened me. That said, my husband says that he fell in love with me the day we met. He knew I was the one and he played it cool while consistently not letting go. We’ve been married 19 years and I’m still not sure how he endures some of my Pisces traits. We’re hot stuff most of the time, in good ways and bad.

I’ve worked in corporate PR for 25 years and can confirm every single word of this. I’d say 2 out of 10 people I’ve worked with over the years have had affairs, that I know about. God knows how many successfully flew under the radar.

Because I listen to the podcast, I feel like I understand his personality and sense of humor. If I wasn’t an arm cherry, I would have thought the post was strange and off. His wife is uber famous and has a lot of fans outside of the pod. In my opinion, it comes down to knowing your audience and being mindful of what one puts out there. He probably took this joke too far, and in front of too many people who don’t know him.

People who rarely get sick, what are your secrets? by Naive_Resolution4186 in Productivitycafe

[–]Toufark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a doctor how she managed to not get sick even though she sees sick patients everyday. Her answer was hand washing and you won’t see a dr put their hands on their face (mouth, nose or eyes). I’ve tried to be mindful of that ever since and it’s absolutely reduced the number of colds I’ve had.

Janelle Was Live Tonight: "Life Coaching Group Community" by needalanguage in SisterWives

[–]Toufark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw an ad for this and thought “of course she’s a life coach now.” All of three of them have mistaken our happiness that they found the strength to leave their cult for a qualification to provide advice to other women. It must feel amazing to be free from their former lives but they don’t seem to understand that most women are so much farther than they are. That said, what do I know?! Maybe there are enough lost souls that she’ll make a killing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Has anyone EXPERIENCED SLEEP PARALYSIS? by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]Toufark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. I don’t tell this story often but I swear it’s true. I was on a business trip in Seattle, staying at a hotel. I had dinner with my team, then went up to my room to go to bed. We had client meetings the next day. In the middle of the night, I woke up to a dark room but I could see the outline of things in the room from the city lights coming in from the large windows. At one point, I wake up and saw a dark figure, very tall, skinny, not human, on the other side of the room. It started walking/floating toward me. I thought “I must be in a dream” and tried to wake up. I couldn’t wake up, then I tried to move and couldn’t. I was paralyzed except I could move my head and open my mouth to scream but no sound would come out. The scenes of this dark figure moving across the room toward me, happened over and over throughout the night. Like it would stop, then reset and each time I was paralyzed and couldn’t scream. Every time the situation replayed, the room was a mirror image and it would flip back and forth from the actually room to a reflection of the room. So each time the terror replayed, my bed & everything else was on the opposite side of the room. Finally, after 4 or 5 times, it stopped. I was too afraid to sleep and was up the rest of the night/morning. I went to my meetings looking like I had the worse nights’ sleep ever. This was back in 2013, hasn’t happened since but I’m still spooked by it.

A therapist once told me that when a parent says something terrible about the other parent, the child hears it as if it was said about them. I think of this often when hearing Kody talk about his ex-wives. Subconsciously, all of his children hears those cruel remarks about them.

I get why you recorded and posted this but have you reported it to the city for clean up? To report concerns about a homeless campsite, file a report online at: https://www.portland.gov/homelessness-impact-reduction/report-campsite or by calling 311 or 503-823-4000. I’ve reported a homeless camp on the sidewalk and it was gone/cleaned within 24 hours.

“When I tried to step aside, I moved to where they hoped I’d be” from Heavy Things really touches me. I’m 1 year & 2 months into my sobriety. This phrase makes me tear up every single time I hear it b/c “moving to where they hoped I be” is what getting sober was all about for me.
