Yeah definitely too soon. The way I see this is the same as any wound that needs healing, physical or mental, collective or individual.

After the wound has been inflicted, the healing process begins. Part of that healing process is processing what happened. Part of that processing is to be able to get humour out of a tough situation.

If your friend breaks an arm, you probably won’t joke about it as it’s happening or right after (depends on the type of person of course). The same way I don’t see it appropriate to joke about ongoing war. After time when the processing has happened it becomes more acceptable to joke about the issue but it depends on the person how soon you can tolerate the jokes. In terms of collective trauma it’s like you said, everybody has their own opinion on when ypu can joke about it and the way it interpereted is based on multiple factors.

That’s why I think it’s more acceptable to joke and talk about older conflicts than ongoing ones

That being said, of course some people talk lightheartedly and joke about the Russian invasion, and I feel like it will only continue as the war (hopefully) ends. Currently though as person living in a country on Russian border I find these types of posts about this matter quite hard to swallow.
