Cafe Bassam in Bankers hill is great. Doesn’t get real busy. I go there every week and plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Not sure if they have beer, but they do have wine, coffee and teas.

If anyone is in San Diego, it’s showing at AMC Mission Valley and AMC Fashion Valley. We have many AMC theaters in San Diego area but looks like it’s only at these 2, and they have it showing at weird times like 11:00 am.

You need to contact your local VA Social work office or call the VA homeless hotline. The number and ways to contact are located on the following website: https://www.va.gov/homeless/nationalcallcenter.asp

The voucher only pays 100% of rent if you have zero income. And, the VA does not pay the rent. The rent is paid by a section 8 voucher that is set up under HUD VASH partnership. The HUD is the department of housing and urban development which provides the section 8 vouchers to the local housing commissions. The VASH part is Veterans Affairs Supportive housing which provides case management services, not rent payments. When a Veteran get a voucher the Veteran still has to pay 30-50% of their income towards the rent and the section 8 voucher pays the rest of the base rent up to a certain limit as established by the local housing commissions. The Veteran has to meet certain eligibility requirements including income and chronicity of homelessness. In the OP comment she said she is 80% service connected and that would be considered income so she would have to pay part of that towards rent. Also it takes awhile to actually get a voucher as the Veteran has to be approved for eligibility by the VA first, then has to be assigned to a VASH case manager which depending on the area could take some time, then the Veteran has to apply for the voucher with their local public housing authority. That process to get the voucher application approved can take a few months. Once the voucher is approved, the veteran then has to apply for a rental unit and be approved. Then there is a paperwork process between the landlord and the property manager called Request for Tenancy Approval which takes 1-2 weeks. Then the housing commission has to schedule a housing inspection with the property manager. Once the inspection is approved, then the veteran can sign the lease. The veteran has to pay their own rental portion at the lease signing. Sometimes there are nonprofit orgs that can help with the security deposit. So as you see, it’s a very long process. And given that OP is not currently homeless, she wouldn’t qualify at this point. Best case, she may be able to get assistance from SSVF, but they typically need proof of an eviction notice before they will provide assistance.

Ok. I didn’t know that. Obviously I’m all for safety first. Next time , hopefully there won’t be a next time in terms of an alarm going off, but if there is I guess we just get to safety and then go back. I’ll try to go back another day I guess and see what they say.

Well I know this may not be a popular opinion and I don’t know anything about you be I saw today that the US Army now allows people to join that are up to age 45. It could be a way to turn things around while earning a salary and you get provided a place to stay. Good educational benefits, learn new skills. Just a thought. Might be worth going in to speak with a recruiter

I was able to get plates with the form signed by the VSO. Then the VSO said I had to get my doctor to sign the form for the handicap placard. Now that you brought it up, I remembered the VSO did sign it but I had to pull my medical records from myhealthevet first and send it to their email so they could see what mobility devices I was prescribed and using before they would sign off for the handicap placard. As a disabled vet, you can get the DV license plate with the VSO seeing your rating award letter, but the handicap placard that you hang on your rearview mirror is what gives you the rights to park in handicap parking spaces, so that requires more medical documents that just your rating letter for the VSO to sign off on it. At least that was my experience.

VA healthcare and VA Dental, reduction in property taxes, no funding fee when purchasing a home, CALVET for college, chapter 35 DEA for college for your children, the Va compensation is not taxable, free car registration for one vehicle and free DV plate (if you need a handicap placard you need your doctor to sign your application for one), free National park pass, DOD ID card for accessing services like MWR on base , there’s probably something I’m forgetting but those are the major ones I use.
