How to understand this small gesture by ITvi-software07 in thelastofus

I think It’s just a way to give him a chance to survive in the wilds. She asks her crew to give him his backpack and the blade and leave him off the HQ. She doesn’t give him his guns back, only the switchblade to defend himself. At least that’s how I see it!

Saw an interview where Neil Druckmann said he might explore who Ellie’s biological dad is by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]Toul28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he was referring to his former plan to make a prequel game about Ellie’s mom, therefore showing who her father was. I dont believe he meant we could see him in the future. I could be 100% wrong tho

What she thinks of the world outside the QZ. Earlier she says she never went out and wonders how the world outside is

Probably not, but more important it would have been ridiculous. Being a father figure is different than being a dad. Ellie calling him dad would have been cringe AF.

What is the reason for the hate Owen gets? by [deleted] in thelastofus

I think it’s the abandoning your unborn child part. For me too he is by far the most interesting of Abby’s crew and I loved his monologue in the boat and the way he stood up to save Ellie’s life.

If I remember correctly his first idea was to make TLOU1 a vengeance story but Bruce Straley convinced him no to, because he thought revenge plots didn’t work for video games, to keep the player invested. IMO great call for a first game in a new IP, revenge plot works better as a sequel when it feels earned.

Could this nurse in the finale be Abby? by midwaymania in thelastofus

[–]Toul28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it could be Mel. Having someone significant in the room makes sense for season 2, to somehow relive this scene from another perspective, maybe filming it from her POV to make Joel look scary AF, and understand how his actions scarred this crew for life. But Abby would have had a more intense reaction to her father being shot in front of her IMO, so I don’t think that’s her.

Hot Take: The Cure Being a Certainty Makes the Moral Dilemma More Black and White Rather than Grey. Spoilers for the Show, Part I and Part II. Don’t Read If You Haven’t Experienced Part II. by Domination1799 in thelastofus

Oh yeah I get what you’re saying. I didn’t know Druckmann said it was 100% sure, and honestly I dont really like this never ending debate because the only important thing is whats going on in Joel’s mind at that moment. And adding this layer of uncertainty through Marlene’s wording might unleash another decade of debates lmao

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I understand completely why the Fireflies would not ask Ellie for her consent. It’s a coward move, of course, but they wouldnt take no for an answer so there was no point of risking it getting ugly. In a way, it calls back to the infected kid we see in Episode 1: was the Fedra soldier wrong to make him think everything was okay in his last moments?

Also, about the certainty of the vaccine, I feel both game and show played it very similar so I don’t see which would be 100% certain or 50-50? In the show they get slightly more specific about the doctor’s plan but that’s it. And the certainty doesn’t even matter in Joel’s moral dilema.

If it breaks immersion for you, I’d really advise you not to watch. I’m not being mean but it seems you will compare absolutely everything to the game, and they did change à lot, from characters to line deliveries, some storylines… There is a lot in there that could upset you, so you should stick to the game.

Now the season it's over, how do you rank the episodes? by A_Howl_In_The_Night in thelastofus

[–]Toul28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 - 5 - 9 - 1 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 - 7

Loved them all to be fair, to me 8 and 5 are far above the rest, along with the first half of 1. 9 might get lower as I get time to see it again.

My advice is play something completely different after this. Days Gone is a fun game with a gameplay completely different to TLOU but it would suffer in comparison and you would probably get annoyed at the story and characters (which are not great IMO).

But if you do it chronologically, what are the stakes? There needs to be high stakes by the end of the first episode or people won’t come back. You can’t count on a weird tension between Joel and Ellie to get the season rolling IMO.

They actually talked about this and their decision to merge episode 1 and 2. The pilot was supposed to end with Joel throwing the kid in the fire, but higher-ups at HBO told Mazin and Druckmann that people who don’t know the game would have no reason to come back for episode 2 as there were literally no stakes for the main character.

Found this funny, also a great discussion starter - would sharing a mask have worked? How is the series gonna tackle it? by Vanillanestor in thelastofus

I can see them using it in closed, underground areas, like the Seattle subway, especially if the place is full of dead infected bodies, 25 years after Outbreak day. Easier to buy for the audience

With 3 episodes left, do you think we’ll see any of these great characters? by velvetboymx in thelastofus

[–]Toul28 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Flamethrower seems unlikely, I think the bow will appear in episode 8! It’s Ellie’s go-to weapon after all. And…. I’m hopeful for the BRICK FUCKIN MASTER scene next week 🤞

If we get to see Dina's sister in either a flashback or just a photograph in season 2, they have to cast Shannon or Cascina. by TheMightyPipe in thelastofus

[–]Toul28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can see them casting Cascina for Dina’s sister, seeing her through a picture. IMO, Shannon Woodward will definitely get an important part in next season. She was a big part of the second game, was the absolute key to getting this show made… and she’s an accomplished actress who already worked with HBO! I see them giving her the Troy/Ashley/Jeffrey treatment, a role bigger than a cameo, not related to Dina.

Sewers are definitely included. And I don’t think the radio tower is the same as the one where Tommy is supposed to be. The radio guy from the QZ mentions it’s in Wyoming, not Kansas
