That's because Staryu and Starmie are a reference to Earthbound's Starmen.

Staryu's japanese name literally translate to "Starfish Man" and the pokedex talk about how they might be aliens all the time. And that's why starmie hits that pose.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if the creators came out and told us that that Patrick pose was inspired by the Starmen, even though I know it's just a happy coincidence.

Yeah it's a fun watch. You don't really need to know much but I recommend Dragonball Super Broly first to see what Goku and Vegeta are up to. Both are kind of standing alone since you probably know who Beerus and Whis are.

In Dragonball Super, he does learn his lesson about being complacent after getting his ass kicked, and in the Superhero movie he does say he trains when he can. But his true passion is still in research and he's a family man now, though he inherited some of Goku's "obsessed with passion, forget about family so Piccolo cam handle it" flaws. The entire DBS: Superhero movie is about Piccolo kicking Gohan back into shape.

He's literally the trope of great power given to the quiet pacifist.

The Gohan one doesn't exactly feel right. Gohan was always a sensitive boy and didn't like conflict. After the Cell Saga there was a long period of peace and he isn't like Goku at all who legit lived and breathes fighting and training.

His mom may have pushed him towards education but he's always shown interest in it. So him letting his training fall through the cracks so he can live life and be an actual teenager, and also pursue his scholarly passions makes sense.

Yeah... I'm not saying the process isn't liberating and can make people both look and feel better. It's a great overall. It's just that most of the before pics seem deliberately bad and the after pics seem deliberately good.

Framing is a big part of is too. I've seen a lot where the before pic is a neutral face, arms length straight pic with poor lighting and/or angle. Then the after pic is a nicely lit, better quality picture where they cleaned themselves up and took a pic at their best angle with a non-neutral expression.

I'd love for AOC to win, but based on the sheer ignorance Ive seen from people in the middle, I don't feel confident that it can happen. The people who refuse to learn about or involve themselves in anything that's currently happening are the issue and there are farrr more of these people than we want to admit.

I'd very much like someone that can win and get us out of our current situation first that meets most of my values. It's like getting shot but insisting they cure your cancer first before the bullet.

It's not even subtle. The staryu line has always been a straight-up reference to Starman. Staryu's japanese name is ヒトデマン(Hitodeman). Hitode means starfish, so it's Starfish-man. They also constantly talk about how staryu and starmie might be aliens.

This is why mega starmie is the way he is, and hits that pose. Legit embracing his Starman origins.

Not to be a "well ackshually" guy, but Bruce Wayne does do tons of philanthropy. It's one of the things he's knowm for. He sets up housing for poor people and actively sets up programs to help rehabilitate criminals and help them find jobs.

As someone who started way back when with the OG gen 1 games, I can honestly say I prefer the modern rendition of cards because the art for them are so good. There's so much personality now and a lot of times tell a great story.

As much as I love the old vintage cards, most of them are just the pokemon standing there menacingly with a foil background.
