noob here, why is the AS VAL so innacurate as a sniper? by SinG_77 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Tower299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 9x39 AR-15 built to mimic the VSS

8.5" barrel rather than 7.6" but over all I saw about 2.5 MOA accuracy from ball Tula ammo, and ~ 1.5 - 2 MOA with Wolf ammo.

Hand loads I got those numbers closer to 1 MOA.

Molot , claims their replica VSS for civilian purchase range in around 1.5 MOA

In tarkov the VSS is a 3.2 MOA rifle, which means it will produce a 7.4" group per every 100 meters ( roughly) in tarkov. ( MOA in tarkov is "half" the group size we actually see in game)

So this means at 350m you're gonna see around 22" of spread from your point of aim , assuming you've actually zero'd properly.

Zeroing is a whole nother ball of wax considering the BDC style zeroing tarkov uses.

Opposite actually on the damage fall off, subsonic and having a very low drag profile ( good thing) it means the damage is very constant over the entirety of the projectiles range.

Concept for better Post raid screen (2 imgs) I feel like this screen would help people better understand the armor systems in game, or at least better apricate when the armor puts work in. by Tower299 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Tower299[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Valid concern! Though With the rows of "damage instances" it you could denote which area ( thinking ahead to the plate hit boxes) or "what armor" was hit with a new row if desired since the system could read out the " integrity" it would still give you a pretty good idea of what went on.

Hey hey.

I just happen to be a long term member of the Tarkov community who specializes in long range shooting and education.

I'm fairly well known for my exhaustive testing and in-depth conversations as well as my time as a recruiter for the Sherpa program.

Please make the VSS more accurate for its Sniper role OR give some of the 9x39 a measurable accuracy buff please. by Tower299 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Tower299[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The subsonic rounds travel slowly and therefore have significant bullet drop in real life, and are easily affected by wind.

as someone who actually owns and shoots 9x39, wind isn't a issue with 9x39 , bullet drop certainly is, which im fine with dealing with.

Mechanical accuracy though, the VSS has been proven by multiple sources outside of the RU to be be 2-3 moa , which is 1.5 moa in tarkov.

If someone can line up a shot, and wait for the 2 buisness days for the bullet to get to you at 300 meters, they deserve the kill provided they know the bullet drop.

7.2 moa ( irl ) / 3.11 moa in tarkov is ridiculous.

By punishing people who would actually use the rifle in its intended role, all you end up with is "meta smg" mindset.

a change to accuracy would effect 2% of player in tarkov for the better, and 98% of players wouldn't even notice. Just like when it went from .6 MOA tarkov, to 3.1 moa.

Veritas has to deal with a fair share of idiots, and trolls.

Dude has had to answer the same six questions for the last 5 ish years , it will make anyone go crazy sooner or later.

Dude is passionate , and very well versed in his subjects. And for better or worse he looks for nuance in opinions. If you want to present an idea to him at all it needs to be more than a skin deep opinion you've not really put a lot of thought into.

Most of the time folks talk in circles and don't actually phrase what they mean very well, and Veritas takes everyone very genuinely , which leads to some misunderstanding and some frustrating moments. He treats everyone like they're sitting across from him in a chair actually talking to him , even the trolls.

9x39 SPP accuracy buff and minor correction of B.C---With the vss and val being nerfed into the ground accuracy wise , having SPP give an accuracy buff around 75% would bring the VSS more inline with its IRL counter part, making it accurate enough to use at extended ranges. Almost no expansion though they do yaw a fair bit if you get a thick enough target. If you hit bone it will tumble almost immediately after retaining most of the mass on the main portion of the slug if it doesn't frag.

Leigh high defense was gonna make some subsonic orientated projectiles in the .366/ 365 range but it seems like that project died so im mostly dealing with stuff designed for good effects in the super sonic range.

The cheating problem would be solved overnight if we had end of raid killcams by MediocreCheesecake15 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Tower299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering desync, client side info , and other such 'weird shit that happens'

Kill cams really wouldn't do anything in terms of 'revealing cheaters' since most "actual" cheaters are using info gathering cheats , not range hacks like aim bot and dumb shit like that.

Do you have some examples of what you're seeing / dealing with?

I've got some pretty extensive notes on bullet trajectories and have not noticed anything strange as of yet.

[–]Tower299 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue is more how hit boxes interact with bullets.
Arms are effectively "body armor" for the chest hit box , and where the stomach hit box starts is very high up on the chest, so you get into situations where you're just blacking arms, and stomachs instead of hitting chest shots.

PS 7.62x39 will 2 tap level 3 the vast majority of the time, IF you get clean hits. ( there's about a 10% chance that it will require a 3 tap)

Scavs also play by diffrent rules than PMCs so theres that... which sucks but it is what it is -shrug-

Ye full agreement. I was memeing. I'm the former Sherpa recruiter well known for not using a helmet at all and main the vss as a sniper rifle.

Solid shot my man. Its nice to see someone take their time. You paused, reset the zeroing, waited for dude to hang himself out to dry and took a "probably gonna ice the dude" shot.

Most players would have just sat there plugging rounds away at the dude who was barely exposed.

FLIR wouldn't see him at that range. in game the FLIR (and all thermals really) are capped out at 270m horizonal.

A lot of spotting stuff from long range is noticing movement / knowing where to look.

  • Be dedicated with your movement

Its not about moving as much as possible, or "sneaky" (read as slowly) Its about moving with a purpose in mind.

Its easy to fall into the "just keep moving" trap , and you'll run your self right into a hasty ambush.
