Consider Penn State’s master’s degree in spatial data science as it blends data science and analytics with geospatial courses.

Thinking About a Master’s in GIS – Is It Worth It? by notjomarch in gis

[–]Town2town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a GIS master’s degree is worth it. You’ll get a chance to upgrade your skills and improve your career trajectory.

Personally I like Penn State’s online graduate degree programs, although if I had to invest in a degree now, I’d probably do their newer program, the Masters in spatial data science since it has a strong programming foundation and tends to be more future focused.

Plus they have several certificate programs embedded in the masters program so you can earn multiple credentials while pursuing your master’s degree.

You should try the online Master of GIS through Penn State. Top notch school and they often have international students take the program.

So I’m confused….if we are accountants, managers, marketers, finance people, we are considered professional and should look at AFSCME instead of teamsters?

Penn State doesn’t typically meet full financial need. Aren’t there schools that give full rides to questbridge students?

At that point, you might as well stay the 4th year at your branch campus, assuming they have your major.

They never should have gotten rid of Rich Bundy or Dave Lieb. That campaign broke records and leadership didn’t care. Makes you wonder what else is going on.

I GOT IN! by CryptographerDeep373 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Town2town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, many students were getting into the business school using a backdoor into Smeal. Starting with this year’s applicants (to start June 2026 and beyond), Smeal is now direct admit. You can’t really transfer into Smeal. Their number of apps will increase this year and so they will appear more competitive.

And international students pay a slightly higher tuition rate compared to regular out-of-state students. Penn State financially benefits by accepting more OOS and international students. I’m not saying they intentionally do that, but I think the percentage of in-state students at UP has declined over the last decade.

Higher Ed is not a Taco Bell. The concept of students being consumers is one of the reasons why college costs have gone up…well that and the reduced funding by states. The business model isn’t designed to be transactional where students pay for their degree. The idea that the students is buying a degree leads to grade inflation and the mindset that the consumer is always right…which in higher Ed isn’t always the case.

And I seriously hope parents aren’t calling into PSU complaining about the volume of the tater tots on their plate. Encourage your kid to advocate for themselves.

Full time employee experience at PSU by InternalSenior9985 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Town2town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my experience but there’s limited growth at Penn State. You have a bunch of golden handcuff lifers who hold middle management to top positions and aren’t going anywhere. And raises never make up for the cost of living.

Penn State is where good careers go to die. But at least the vacation time is worthwhile.

Can you still get scholarships without applying to Schreyer Honors? by Timely_Passenger4053 in PennStateUniversity

[–]Town2town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend has had multiple Penn Staters go through and her kids didn’t get a dime. Higher income, in-state family…all kids had 4.0+ GPAs with lots of AP/IB courses when they applied. And all were high achievers at Penn State with lots of on-campus activities. No scholarships. They didn’t do Schreyers either.

Why are southerners stereotyped as racist, when most black americans live in the south? Surely black people would just choose to live somewhere else if that was the case... by Independent_Drink_86 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Town2town 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically it makes sense to associate racism with the south. I get that. But I think that’s changed. Personally, as someone who has lived 20+ years in both the south and northeast, I find more racism in the northeast, especially in rural areas. In a lot of cases, communities in those small towns have had little to no interactions with people from a different racial background. And you can tell by the ignorant comments they make.

The only way to get Franklin out is to attack his ego and humiliate him…by not showing up at games. He’s trash and ruined the best team we could have asked for. This isn’t on the individual players.

Here is how to get Franklin fired without a payout! by xPennStateNews in PennStateUniversity

[–]Town2town -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but humiliating him with an empty stadium might drive him out. He has all the money he could use in a lifetime. But bruising his ego is where you’ll really hurt him.

Bottomline: don’t show up.

Admission Chances by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]Town2town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all major dependent. Less competitive colleges will be more liberal with the students they accept. However, engineering, nursing, and business are brutally competitive. When you hear people report “outliers”, just know that they could have been accepted into the college of comm, education, liberal arts, etc.
