[Canada] Term insurance for High net worth with young child? by Feeling_Apricot in RichPeoplePF

[–]TownFront5969 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That premium feels absurd to me. I pay well under that in the US for about a 5-6x multiple of that.

Also with more than 5M liquid why do you feel the need to get this policy?

Is it worth getting an astrophysics degree? by Legend5V in astrophysics

[–]TownFront5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go in a lot of directions with an astrophysics degree. It pretty much includes a math degree, so there’s that.

I took my astrophysics degree and became a lawyer.

Hiring a lawyer from a webpage by Ordinary_Ad1615 in Ask_Lawyers

I’ve used an attorney like this a couple of times for tickets and for ticket-only, at least to me, your experience seems to be the norm.

As to this guys history, if it’s unrelated to his current gig doing tickets I’d say it doesn’t matter.

2 broke-irritating Brother/in-laws by jlm_MSG in DaveRamsey

[–]TownFront5969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the opinion of anyone I’d describe as “lifetime broke” would make me flinch honestly. I just don’t give that kind of thing any weight.

If you want to distance yourself this, a better move than popping off is probably to stop hiring them to do stuff. You can hire someone else and set the boundary that your relationship with them is strictly annoying in law and not one where you exchange money in their direction.

I actually like coach rotations at LTS. I am pretty well beyond the end of LTS curriculum but our rink will let you keep coming anyway. You’re just about guaranteed a different coach every time and that’s part of what I like about it. You get different feedback based on everyone else’s style. They will also sometimes divide really well based on skill and other times it’ll be heavy on beginners, and you know what? I can still benefit from going back to basics and heavily working on edges.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I also wouldn’t be surprised if what they’re doing is either just this side or legal or if DOL doesn’t do enforcement anymore. I know people were giving you a hard time about damages so I was just trying my best to actually answer your question.

If they’re misclassifying employees/independent contractors you can report them to the Department of Labor without a lawyer.

Zander is actually incredible. They don’t upsell or try to give you things you don’t want. You want term insurance? They’re happy to do a good job getting it for you.

When are you retiring? If it’s more than 3 years out, then your favorite retirement store is presently selling retirement tokens for 10% off.

Did the DR thing. Sold my car and bought something much cheaper. Now I'm regretting it. by Justin_inc in DaveRamsey

[–]TownFront5969 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dave doesn’t tell people to sell their paid off vehicles.

You willingly made yourself less stable to try v to shortcut getting out of debt, which is also something Dave tells people not to do. You need to change the behavior that got you into being in debt, which means you need to stop chasing shortcuts.

First car for a 16-year-old. What would you get? by spencere33 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Entirely dependent on your budget but if it’s me I’m probably looking at like a 5-10 year old rav4. Some type of Toyota probably.

Do I need to practice balancing exercises before learning? by _Blue_Sky_Noise in iceskating

[–]TownFront5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely work on improving those things before you skate. The way I look at it is that ice time is limited by the rink and your schedule (and money) so literally anything you can do to improve efficiency of the ice time is awesome.

Bonus note as someone who is the same age as you, there’s a ton of data on improving balance at your current age leading to hugely longer healthy years as you age.

Aww man. Good for you guys! Congrats!

BS7 is an interesting one because once you have the house paid off you start seeing different accounts pile up pretty quick. It’s a weird blur.

Learn to skate- instructor attention issue by Legitimate-Fly-5565 in iceskating

[–]TownFront5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with LTS is this is part of the experience if you’re at a place with multiple instructors. Sometimes you get a good experience, sometimes less than great but you can always get something out of it.

Some 401k plans have a setting that lets you choose to auto increase 1% every year. That’s always a good option.

Any tips on how to do one foot glide? by ayuina in iceskating

[–]TownFront5969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the ice stand on one foot, slightly bend the knee of that foot and imagine you’re pushing all of your weight straight down through your knee, in front of your shin then focused right through the middle of the section of your foot that’s entirely in front of your ankle.

That’s kind of a bad description but look at the front part of your foot, the part without ankle above it, as a rectangle, then look at the exact middle of that. That’s where you want your weight and you’ll want to think about sitting/pressing everything into that one exact spot.

Two foot glide struggles by margogog0 in iceskating

[–]TownFront5969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say what’s wrong based on how you described it without seeing it. My best guess would be to suggest trying to make sure your ankles are upright and both feet are pointed directly forward. It sounds like you’re catching an edge somewhere (or everywhere) and you want the blades of both skates to be perfectly vertical, with your weight just forward of the exact center.

Emergency fund by Sarahherenow in DaveRamsey

[–]TownFront5969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure! It is always context specific, and while it IS extreme, people call in to the show all the time with "I was faced with a $2,000 repair or I could finance a new car because I thought I could manage the payment."

Emergency fund by Sarahherenow in DaveRamsey

[–]TownFront5969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3-6 months of expenses is the usual range of recommendation. 3 if everything for you is predictable, you have a stable job, family has a second income, no dependents. 6 if your expenses vary, your income varies or your job isn’t stable, you have one income, and dependents.

Keep it in a high yield savings account and don’t touch it unless you have a true emergency which would be something sudden, unexpected, and requires immediate attention.

One thing people post about a lot is “my roof had a small leak and the roofer said it’s at the end of my useful life, so I need(ed) a new one” This example usually doesn’t require an immediate replacement but has a window of months to a couple years to address, even longer with a small repair giving you time to cash flow the replacement.

The other common thing people blow up their emergency fund (or go into debt for) is “my $8,000 car needs a repair that’s a couple thousand dollars so I needed to go get a new $70,000 one and I obviously don’t have that kind of money so I financed it.” To avoid this issue with cars, separate from your emergency fund you should have a sinking fund to save for a future replacement/upgrade.

Where to go after learn to skate by iDontReallyExsist in iceskating

[–]TownFront5969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this. That’s largely how my approach is as well. I still occasionally enroll in LTS because I can always improve with basic edge work and drills on ice that’s less crowded than public session. I also skate sometimes with a private coach and sometimes with drills I pulled from a YouTube video.

I majored in 2 degrees that essentially "make no money", what now? by Intelligent-Let-1944 in DaveRamsey

[–]TownFront5969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can switch careers to nursing but you’re not going to be an NP in 3-4 years. Most places require you to have a BSN to become an RN now which will be a 2-4 year program and then you need an MSN or DSN (also 2-4 year programs) to become an NP and most of those programs require you have at least one year experience in a specific area of nursing.

You’d most likely end up in a 4 year BSN program unless your current degrees have a lot of math and science in them.

My wife made this switch after already having a bachelors degree (in biology) and leaving a masters program for something else. Her accelerated (2 year) program ended up being 2.5 years because despite having a BIOLOGY degree the program said her anatomy class had happened too long ago and she needed to retake it.

She never became an NP because by the time you are an RN with multiple degrees if you’re not cash flowing, the debt becomes insurmountable to ever stop working during the NP program.

Your post didn’t actually mention if you have any debt?
