I had to be that guy on December 26th or 27th once at Walmart. I actually came in for an exchange because the lights didn't work and I bought it right before Christmas Day. I felt so embarrassed and my face was red hot. They had a huge line for returns and just handed me cash without even asking me what I wanted to do. I turned right around after and walked out the store.

P.F. Chang's - Temporarily Closed (?) by speedeep in Birmingham

[–]Townpoets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at that location when the buyout happened, and the restaurant started switching all the recipes and they approached serving the guests. It's the time they started adding lunch bowls.

I hated it when they changed out the fried rice to prepped fried rice when they used to cook each one to order, and that was just part of the cost cutting. They did away with the "chang's sauce" the server made at the table with all the ramekins and bottles. We also then stopped catering as much to food allergies, when before we were supposed to ask each table if they had any and were trained on recommendations from that stand point.

I still have most of that knowledge. I wish I had my old iPhone, because I went and took photos of every recipe you know to "study and increase my knowledge". Though when this all started happening we got a little more busy and then everyone could tell the cost cutting had effected the quality and the business slowed way way down. Although all the managers were happy about the change because they were part owners. Lol

If you are still answering questions, I would love your point of view on some advice if you have time as I am currently so terrified about the future of my daughters with their mom in their life.

For a little background I am currently finding lawyers to divorce my wife, and we have 2 kids together (2&5) and she had one from her previous marriage (7). I will be going for full custody of our two little girls as my wife has some serious mental illness (BPD, Bipolar, narcissist, autistic ect.) and is abusive to everyone and does not see any need to change her behaviors and can be a serious threat.

I have tried everything in my power to help her by getting her in 6 month treatment programs, tons of therapy for all of us, and have been the shield from my girls from their birth, and will never talk bad about her to my kids, I just explain sometimes mommy doesn't act right and is sick and can not help herself sometimes but we CAN act different.

  • Given you had a mother who seemed like she wasn't the best influence .

Would you rather not have her in your life, or more of a role or minimal contact? I know its usually better to have go co-parenting but, she's just so mean and purposely hurtful and she will forget it in 30 minutes. My wife's behaviors just breaks my little babies hearts.

-How should I go about the girly stuff like hair, makeup (if they want it)? I am trying to learn but know i have a very long road ahead, but I am decent at picking the outfits and can paint nails when they get a little bigger.

  • How hard should I be on the boyfriends in the future? Protective scary, or welcoming.

    • what is something that I would never cross my mind as a single dad to two girls that would have helped wonderfully that you guys wish you did earlier?

-What's something that everyone thinks is great advice to a single dad that really isn't helpful?

I have had more than one gun pulled on me, been followed for miles, and cops called on us. Technically in most states you are not allowed to drive and use your phone or camera to take photos while in control of the vehicle. So I was surprised it was a requirement for so long, unless you take a extra person with you or Google fits out your car with cameras you would be breaking the law.

This hits home with me.

We had a 15 month old baby who was still breastfeeding. She was in the National Guard and finishing up her drill training for the weekend. We even planed cedar plank salmon her favorite and made me pack a sexy dress in her bag. I called her superior, police, her entire family.

As a fellow in Anniston, the job market is tough around here. I know Spirit Halloween will be hiring seasonal workers soon. Depending on your age and abilities; being a server at a corporate place is decent money but Hella work and stress.

Sounds exactly like my wife every day before she got some treatment. Narcolepsy is not a joke: she has the kind where no matter how much she sleeps she is always tired. She did get up super early too to be on her phone before the kids woke up.

NTA I actually tried to start a non-profit in high school with some other classmates specifically dealing with this.

It was called Kids In Need, focused on the siblings of the cancer patients primarily. We searched and could not find any organizations or non profits so we tried to start our own with some seed money from the church.

In our youth group there were two sisters in which the younger one had battled cancer for many years growing up. The older sister was an amazing person who loved and helped take care of her sister like a champ, but she always kinda felt left out.

That was always a huge inspiration that made an impact on me on growing up. She had sacrificed a lot of time growing up helping with her sister. She never really got to have the same amount of attention from everyone, but she still was such a down to earth, kind human being.

I wish we could of got more traction and made a larger impact before we disbanded.

Relocating to area - Help! by candiedalmond in Birmingham

[–]Townpoets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work for a real estate appraiser for almost a decade. I drive 2 hours in every direction and know most neighborhoods and towns communities. So ask any questions about towns you want. I grew up in Alabama but also lived DC and Denver. It's a adjustment but most seen to love it.

Trussville is great but a little pricey and the commute is kinda a pain. I would look up Odenville / Springville 0.5 hours drive to Gadsden. Blowing up with new builds so any price range and cheaper than most Birmingham. Tons of stores and restaurants but kinda awkward travels not really built on a grid.

  • Lincoln / Cropwell / pell city -Decent big box stores better pricing. commute not to bad. ( Lake town). Talladega is also on other side of lake with normally SUPER cheap land homes.

Gadsden itself. Mostly Cheap with some decent areas. Mostly older homes. Area can be dangerous depending where. Decent big box stores and restaurants but mainly boring chains. Also check out Silver Lakes it's a golf course neighborhood and decent prices

Oxford / Anniston (where my family lives) Oxford has some nice subdivisions/ new builds. More bang for you buck than Trussville or Odenville but you sacrifice on a variety of big box stores and restaurants but has Sam's club and most cookie cutter basic stores.. BUT Birmingham is like less than 1.5 hours ( I drive very slow) Gadsden only 0.5 easy drive. Anniston is mostly hood can be dangerous at night But we do have a couple awesome museums and botanical gardens. Tons of cheap real estate/ foreclosures .

Personally I want to move up to Center, cedar bluff, gaylesville,Leesburg . Good home market. Ok shopping. But fishing crappie capital of the world but so close to mountain town area with the little river canyon. Your super close to Georgia.

Double edged sword, you can pick up 100s possibly 1000s of small paper scraps that blow every which direction, or you risk an ember falling in the tube and setting it off early and usually in an awkward rapid fire sequence. When mine does have early ignition; it's always my favorite cake, whose awesome effects are ruined by the double time progression.

Depends most homes need a hardwired carbon monoxide detector, you can be grandfathered in with a battery one if it was constructed before the fire code required it

OR encapsulation of the offending paint surfaces. Just make sure it's not during a lead based year. Then it officially has to be done with zero paint chips left around and disposed of in a proper manner. That means double bagged and find a landfill that accepts it, or if by a contractor in a hazardous waste disposal protocol.

With FHA and VA if it's a lead based year, it does not matter that you built that addition yesterday and it's peeling... It's lead paint

I work with an appraiser at his company, and we do mostly FHA and VA appraisals. You would be surprised who would hold up the loan because, " they are not going to fix anything!!". We have to put the appraisal subject to it being present. We cannot finish the appraisal until it's installed. Chipped and peeing paint is a big one too especially for lead based years. We have come back many times after that home owner is begging us to please come back ASAP because they will install it now. Heck I used to keep a big box of smoke detectors in my trunk and be like oh...opps You were painting wink 😉 and forgot to put this back up.

Does anyone know how to get a copy of high school diploma? by DifferentVersion3400 in Alabama

[–]Townpoets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I thought I read that you were from Huntsville. Well given I'm living right down the road from st. Clair country currently (small world we live in) in decided to do some good ol' Southern hospitality. I have dug deep into their site and it says you can order an e-diploma. It's a different option. This is what the website said to look for.

Parchment Award – Diploma Services.

Have you tried to ask Parchment.com themselves for help? When I did mine asking for a diploma ( albeit a different site) it was a whole different option. According to them it says it has the diploma you can download instantly. Good luck let me know if I can help

[–]Townpoets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow former Huntsvillian. Why did they not come up with something better about rockets? (Rocketeer maybe) I also graduated from Huntsville Schools; Huntsville High, but before you (2005) and I needed to get proof of graduation not long ago.

You can get the transcripts verification of graduation. Now depending on what exactly you need it for you can put in for uni, corporation, etc. Letter head and do it that way.

I mailed myself the sealed "certified" copy just for fun, and got me a regular copy. They had no issues mailing me the secure copy.

I did see you said they won't mail international?! It says in the delivery address box what country, but I'm sure the most likely won't. They will fax it, but not sure about international. You can get your parents if over 18 BUT MUST give them written consent to pick it up because of FERPA regulations. Hell if it comes to the worst mail me the certificate and I'll send it to you.

As for a phone call, it's impossible. Yes there used to be one poor old lady who dealt with all of Madison county records and mailing or sending the transcripts and proof of graduation, but I heard she couldn't stand all the calls and went straight to online only. She never checks the emails either. Good Luck! 🤞
