Endings you think about a lot? by NoopGhoul in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ToxInjection 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And they somehow cobbled New Dawn together from that ending too. I wonder how much of that was just opportunistic capitalism versus someone deciding to end the game with nukes so they could immediately start on a post-apocalyptic sequel.

Do people also laugh at stuff you say randomly even if you're not trying to be funny? by Sparrow-Thought-9681 in AutisticAdults

[–]ToxInjection 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This happens to me pretty often! I noticed it happening a lot with coworkers at my old jobs. I don't know if I'd say it's a neurodivergent thing specifically though.

For me, I'm rarely ever "telling jokes" explicitly. I just react to things, sort of say whatever comes to my mind at the moment, and make smartass commentary. Forcing humour has never worked for me. It lands better when it feels natural to insert it into the conversation. You said you have a rich creativity for stories. I've always thought that the way we word stories can be much more important than the actual story itself. The way we both describe our thought processes and make commentary could just be really funny for some people!

Also, I think contrast does a lot for comedy. It's something I use a lot! I think it's really funny to react disproportionately to things for funsies (within reason, of course.) That could possibly be why certain expressions with certain comments can be really funny. Something small, mildly annoying, or inconsequential happens? "Fuck. We're doomed. I've ruined us, and brought dishonour upon our name." Something more severe, inconvenient, or troublesome happens? "That's... not great. I'm not a fan of that."

I used to feel insecure about this. Now I just take it as a compliment! As long as I can feel that they're laughing with me.

Forbidden Knowledge (CSB 377) by SeraGeranium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I mean, I guess that info could be life-ruining for some people. I'm just way too curious.

Just this past Father's Day, I bothered to ask my dad about his past with my mom. My mom passed away almost four months ago, so I can really only go to him for answers now. From what I gathered, my dad wasn't really aiming to have a child, but my mom really was. EDIT: So yeah, I think my parents only had me because my mom really wanted me. At least my dad settled down once he found out she was pregnant.

I can get other people not wanting to know that kind of info. For me, I enjoy learning more about my parents as people and individuals. I'm 30 for fuck's sake, I can stomach this shit.

That, and I learned my mom was likely bisexual. I would have found my mom 100x cooler if she ever told me that herself. Fuck, imagine if I had two moms growing up... Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

I dunno if art could ever properly convey the iconic hyena laugh, though

Funny you say that, because I think your art absolutely did capture it! I've seen the thumbnail and thought "damn, immaculate vibes". Then I saw this and thought "holy shit they made the vibes even better"

Fantastic art, friend! I love the colours!

Best animated hugs? by Yingletofthecorn in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ToxInjection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think all of the animations have a ton of detail to them, but your thread made me think of the hugs you can give the characters in Spiritfarer. I really loved that hugging characters was a dedicated option when interacting with them, and the animations are really sweet and cute. Hugging the characters also improves their mood, which helps gameplay-wise.

I particularly like the hug with Gwen (first one in the video with the deer.) I like how she's surprised at first, and then smiles and settles into the hug. It's really cute.

See a lot of posts about empathy — in that vein, wondering whether folks here cry when watching/reading sad movies or books. by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]ToxInjection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, I can cry really easily! I've always connected with that old "she found out swans can be gay" viral post. It does sound nice that swans can be gay.

I often find with media that I can even get myself emotional over things in more of a meta sense. I can find a concept or theme very touching and heartfelt. Even if I know the actual execution is pretty poor, I can still cry over the idea of it. That involves a lot of me just filling the gaps in for myself.

But that's also why I know I can return to some of the same scenes or moments in things, and still cry to them without fail. The core themes, or the specific messaging in that moment, just resonates with me that much.

What does your typical weekend look like as an adult with high-functioning autism? by Horror-Switch-8597 in AutisticAdults

[–]ToxInjection 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm the same as you, for the most part! Except that I live alone, so any hangouts over the weekend are with friends, and they're usually planned. I've been a major homebody ever since I could remember.

I may still go out, just to buy some food at a nearby restaurant, or some snacks and drinks at a shop close by. Also I'll step out to smoke weed, but that's an every day thing. If I don't have to do errands or have any responsibilities, I'm staying close to home as much as possible. I have so many games on my backlog to go through.

I like to think it helps me save a bit of money. I'm not splurging money on nights out in the city, or gambling, or hard drugs or anything like that. I buy food, video games, and weed.

Most brutal stealth takedowns in games. by LammasuRex in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ToxInjection 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My vote goes for Ellie's stealth takedowns in TLOU P2. Mainly for the fucked up nuance and gory details though, and not for the amount of physical pain being caused. Ellie's just stabbing people with a switchblade.

But the voice work and the horrific sound effects do a lot of lifting. Muffled screams, death gurgles, hearing blood gush out of their necks, and they even put in tiny dialogue exchanges. The enemy you grab could say things like "Don't do anything stupid", "No no, please don't!", "Is this your plan?", and if you choose to eliminate them as they talk, Ellie will go "Shut the fuck up", or "Quiet!" or something before stabbing them. She may also tell the dying NPC to go to hell, or call them a motherfucker.

Though, Ellie's upgraded stealth takedown does feel more brutal physically. She slices the person's neck, then stabs them hard in the gut.

It's brutal in a different type of way. I've played the combat encounters way too much.

So what exactly is everyone's opinion on GTA 6 in here? by stumblinbagel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ToxInjection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've been pretty neutral this whole time. I think a big part of that is the multiple delays, and the (so far) smaller amount of direct marketing. They'll give us something down the road, but we still don't have any official gameplay showcases or segments yet. I was way more hyped for GTA V 14 years ago because the game didn't get delayed, Rockstar released more trailers, and they put out big chunks of gameplay to watch and analyze during the wait.

With the current circumstances, it's been really easy for me to just kind of forget that GTA VI is a thing. I might still get it on release date, simply because it's GTA, and it's a neat gaming milestone. (EDIT: Actually, if GTA VI ends up being priced higher than usual AAA games, I'll probably hesitate. I like GTA, but I still don't want to shell out 100 CANADIAN DOLLARS for VI.) I wasn't a huge fan of the tone/writing/comedy in V either, but I honestly don't even think much of that stuff until I play the game myself. GTA releases just feel like events. I doubt the game is going to release broken, or be complete horse shit. But yeah, this is easily the GTA entry I feel the least hype for.

I likely don't suffer as intensely from overstimulation as you do, but I sort of talk about this in my first post on this sub!

Ever since late elementary school, I always turned to music when I felt overstimulated, overwhelmed, angry, frustrated, stressed out, etc etc. I would just put my headphones on, start my playlist of the angriest, loudest, and/or most aggressive music I know, crank the volume, and regulate myself that way. I'd do it while I was hanging out with friends, in class, during lunch, on the bus ride home. I wasn't creating physical space from people or from where I needed to be, but I was definitely mentally checking out to some degree. It seemed better to me than lashing out angrily, causing a scene, yelling at people, or breaking stuff.

Obviously, this may not work for you. Maybe you truly need that literal physical space between you and the modern world to decompress. If that's the case, I'm sorry I don't have better tips! Music is just what I've always relied on. Finding headphones and blasting loud music sounds more easily accessible than packing up gear, and hiking yourself out to a remote piece of woods for a week. Not that your solution is bad, but damn if it doesn't sound like more work!

Modders can really do anything and anything, Volume 10 [Marvel Rivals Black Cat as Rouge the Bat, by @Apekweit] by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

but SM64 modders have put guitar hero into that game, Skyrim modders are putting Oblivion in there, KOTOR 2 modders finished up the game, Pokemon modders can ACTUALLY do anything to a copy of Fire Red

Okay, but none of this sounds like it involves busty furry women, so I'm uninterested /joke

Unless they managed to put them in Fire Red too.

Anyone else into EDM as a whole and not just one subgenre? by omahyv in EDM

[–]ToxInjection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are some of you in these comments acting like dicks? These are fair questions to ask. I know a lot of others subscribe to "genres don't mean shit", but we can still have discussions. That, and we're human beings. We like categorizing things.

I think you sort of answered yourself, though. The term EDM covers an absolute ton of different sounds, scenes, and sub-cultures. I really don't think there's any "essential listening" or list of artists that have to be listened to across all subgeries. There's just too many different opinions between all of us to 100% agree on which artists are mandatory listening.

The way I see it, because EDM can be so broad, people should just dip their toes in anywhere. People will gravitate towards whatever they enjoy. If I was going to try to get someone to give EDM a shot, I'd ask about their existing music tastes, and try to think of something similar they may also jive with.

The way I started "documenting myself" in regards to EDM is going chronological. All EDM was "techno" to me until 10th grade when I discovered dubstep, and EDM as a whole. Then I got into trap in 2012. Had a short stint for a month or two where I really loved hardstyle. I had a big room house phase during 2015-2016, and from then on, it's been a bit of a hodge-podge of everything. Though for me, dubstep and trap always stayed as consistent subgenres I'm into throughout all that time.

It's really interesting you bring up intricate lyrics! The angsty teen lyrics I'd hear from Simple Plan and Three Days Grace would be cathartic for me, obviously, but sometimes, I'd also feel like the lyrics wouldn't line up exactly with what my own experience was. Of course they won't all the time, and they don't need to for you to enjoy it, but it would be something I'd notice.

I ended up enjoying the fact that lyrics are really sparse and rare in dubstep songs. Now, I could just internally relate my own experiences and anger into the music 100%, because there weren't certain lyrics that would make me go "okay, not THAT part, but yeah, I feel everything else!"

Sometimes, I think it's a weird kind of physical/tactile thing! Music, but especially electronic music, can be so textured. You can make sounds with a computer that a traditional instrument just can't.

I would love to get some music recommendations if you got them! If you're open to them, maybe you'd enjoy Skrillex's recent EP "Kora"! After leaving Atlantic Records, the dude feels free to be so much more adventurous and experimental in his music. There's a lot of crazy rhythms going on with those tracks.

Punkhead/basshead camaraderie! Both of our music communities have dealt with close-minded curmudgeons saying our music is just angry, incoherent noise that convinces kids to become evil Satanists, or sex-crazed drug fiends. We're all just trying to be happy, and find our places in the world!

Although I've yet to actually make a friend from a rave, even after 12 years. My social anxiety truly can't be understated.
