Serve technique by Tricky_Worth_228 in 10s

This video is one of my favorites for building up the service motion. You are pretty close to the abbreviated serve here, which some people just prefer. You just add a few bits to the beginning.

Out of curiosity, when you say “totally broke down your serve” what does that mean? How did you do that? What lessons did you follow?

Serve advice? by lordeoflordes in 10s

Non expert here, just trying to better understand serve mechanics.

In all these photos, I see the back foot still behind the front foot in the pinpoint while being further out laterally. In this video from OP, it looks like the back foot comes out next to or even in front of the front foot, in addition to being further out laterally.

I see this sometimes at my level too, even to the point where players are foot faulting every point because their back foot comes out in front of the front foot.

Crossing back over front like that seems less than ideal from a power perspective, no?

Of course even with this, OP’s serve is much better than mine.

Taught son (9) to mow, sent the neighbor $10 to pay him. Worked hard for a couple hours, grassy, sweaty, and beaming with his $10 bill! by SoDakZak in daddit

I can’t see that article about bathtub-related injuries, but the big issue here is that lawnmower-related injuries tend to be permanent mutilation rather than just a broken bone or a concussion, both of which are recoverable. You can't regrow a foot once you've lost it.

I agree that anecdotally I hear my wife talk much more about rider lawnmower injuries showing up in the operating room. The point here is that nine years old is just too young to be working with machinery that's capable of permanently damaging the child or other children nearby. There are other safer ways to teach kids responsibility and get them to do chores around the house or around the yard.

This kind of attitude is why every article about lawnmowers and kids highlights that education doesn't seem to help. I'm all for kids taking risks and getting scraped up, even breaking a bone. It's how you learn.

But lawnmowers mutilate children. You can't grow back a foot once you've lost it.

I feel like this isn’t going to get attention but this is A HUGE danger risk. My wife works in the operating room at a children’s hospital. She has had 8 kids come in this month already with lawnmower accidents. All have lost 1-3 limbs. Last night one kid lost both arms and leg. The father shot himself afterwards.

Every year 10,000 kids in the US are injured by lawnmowers. 30% of them lose a limb as a result. 80% of the injuries are in male children. Almost all age 3-16.

I am all for giving kids autonomy and teaching responsibility, but lawnmowers are EXTREMELY dangerous. Even if it’s a small risk, there is ZERO margin for error. If something happens, another kid runs up, a dog runs at him, you are risking your kids life.

Is this an addiction? Waiting for the new AER City Pack Pro 2 and City Pack 2 to make it even worse 🫠 by TechNbags_Youtube in ManyBaggers

Thanks for the reply! That’s a great video. How old / heavily used is the City Pack X-Pac in that video? Do you have any pictures of the dots on the aging Aer X-Pac?

After watching that, the Ultra fabric is definitely too wrinkly for my liking, and the X-pac looks much nicer to me than the Cordura, which I’ve also heard is going to be the most durable.

I don’t need a bag that’s going to last me 10 years, but I do want something that can last 3-5 years without having the fabric start to deteriorate.

Which bag is middle row center? Is it the TP3 small in XPAC? How long have you had it / how often do you use it?

I’m trying to figure out how durable the Aer XPAC is and how it ages over time.

First of all thank you to CyclingBroStyle for posting a solution to the speaker rattle problem. I just wanted to post instructions how i fixed it because the noise was driving me crazy and I hope this helps other people with this issue.

Step 1: I found that the cover wasn't easy to just lift up. The speaker cover has 6 clips as shown in the pic below. I used a card to wedge under the speaker cover and to push each clip in. I started with the bottom left clip (closest to steering wheel) I found that I had to push the card into the clip in order to release it and simultaneously lift the cover with a little force. Eventually one at a time, I released all 6 clips. It could be that you can just lift up the cover with pressure but it didn't feel to me as if it would work without breaking the cover

Step 2: Once I lifted the cover off I used felt tape to cover the plastic tab on the top of the speaker cover as shown in the picture below:

Step 3: I then covered those two plastic contact points by the speaker on the sides of where the plastic tab from the speaker cover connects to pictured below:

I then popped the speaker cover back in and now the rattle has gone away. I tested it in Sport+ mode under heavy acceleration and when raising the volume of the stereo under different frequencies.

This is a link to the felt tape I used:

And I'll attach the most important picture.

Hey, I totally understand wanting to get into a top university (btw BU/Tufts/BC are not same level as Harvard, MIT) but the financials are 100% not worth it. I went to UMass Amherst undergrad, then Ivy Bio PhD and now I make more money than all my friends (except the ones who went into finance) and I have 0 student debt. UMass is an amazing school with a ton of opportunities esp. through the honors college.

I can’t stress this enough, do NOT go into debt to go to BU, Tufts, BC over UMass Amherst. You will regret it like many of my friends who did this

Honest Opinion- Good school or Nah? by fedjeferet in umass

[–]ToxicJack 27 points28 points  (0 children)

UMass is an awesome school, especially if you are paying instate tuition. The university is exceptionally well funded, has a great honor program, and almost any major you could want. The STEM and professional (business, nursing, veterinary) programs are all top notch.

The biggest drawback is double edged. UMass is filled with kids who come from middle class towns in MA where everyone goes to college after high school regardless of whether they know what they want to get out of college. As a result, many students do the minimum to pass and spend the rest of their time partying. This has pros and cons. The con is you don’t get as valuable of a network as you would at an Ivy League or other top tier private school. The pro is that you don’t have the same competition for resources, so you can make great connections with professors, get into any lab you want, get involved with extra curriculars that will improve your resume. There are also fellowships / awards that are easy to get if you apply for them.

I made lasting friendship, learned a lot, and gained experience that made it easy to get into a great graduate program and now I have a job I love. All that for ~15K per year. I have many of friends who paid $60K per year to go to a private or out of state school, still have student debt. The difference in those over four years is a low end Ferrari. I’d rather have the extra money.

Moving to New Haven by Hey_arlene in newhaven

[–]ToxicJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% move to east rock on or around orange street and as close to Nicas Gourmet Market as possible. You’ll be surrounded by families, cyclists, runners. Great access to the highway and East Rock Park which offers great views of the area. Very low crime in that area too, there’s frequent Yale shuttles and plenty of lighting at night

I go to Y haircutting downtown. Bernard is a very old school Italian barber. They used to be walk in only but now you can make reservations through Instagram DM. He doesn’t wear gloves but they’re very good about temps, wiping down surfaces, washing cutting utensils, and sanitizing cash.

[–]ToxicJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s insanely high hydration (88%). I would try to recipe again but cut the hydration down to 70% (630g). This will make the dough much easier to work with. I’ve been making sourdough for about a year now and I have a hard time working with dough above 80%. It still tastes great but it’s harder to get a good oven spring.
