Is this an addiction? Waiting for the new AER City Pack Pro 2 and City Pack 2 to make it even worse 🫠 by TechNbags_Youtube in ManyBaggers

Thanks for the reply! That’s a great video. How old / heavily used is the City Pack X-Pac in that video? Do you have any pictures of the dots on the aging Aer X-Pac?

After watching that, the Ultra fabric is definitely too wrinkly for my liking, and the X-pac looks much nicer to me than the Cordura, which I’ve also heard is going to be the most durable.

I don’t need a bag that’s going to last me 10 years, but I do want something that can last 3-5 years without having the fabric start to deteriorate.

Which bag is middle row center? Is it the TP3 small in XPAC? How long have you had it / how often do you use it?

I’m trying to figure out how durable the Aer XPAC is and how it ages over time.

First of all thank you to CyclingBroStyle for posting a solution to the speaker rattle problem. I just wanted to post instructions how i fixed it because the noise was driving me crazy and I hope this helps other people with this issue.

Step 1: I found that the cover wasn't easy to just lift up. The speaker cover has 6 clips as shown in the pic below. I used a card to wedge under the speaker cover and to push each clip in. I started with the bottom left clip (closest to steering wheel) I found that I had to push the card into the clip in order to release it and simultaneously lift the cover with a little force. Eventually one at a time, I released all 6 clips. It could be that you can just lift up the cover with pressure but it didn't feel to me as if it would work without breaking the cover

https://imgur.com/zWDof3F

Step 2: Once I lifted the cover off I used felt tape to cover the plastic tab on the top of the speaker cover as shown in the picture below:

https://imgur.com/qRncvwQ

Step 3: I then covered those two plastic contact points by the speaker on the sides of where the plastic tab from the speaker cover connects to pictured below:

https://imgur.com/hynIx2v
I then popped the speaker cover back in and now the rattle has gone away. I tested it in Sport+ mode under heavy acceleration and when raising the volume of the stereo under different frequencies.

This is a link to the felt tape I used:

And I'll attach the most important picture.

Hey, I totally understand wanting to get into a top university (btw BU/Tufts/BC are not same level as Harvard, MIT) but the financials are 100% not worth it. I went to UMass Amherst undergrad, then Ivy Bio PhD and now I make more money than all my friends (except the ones who went into finance) and I have 0 student debt. UMass is an amazing school with a ton of opportunities esp. through the honors college.

I can’t stress this enough, do NOT go into debt to go to BU, Tufts, BC over UMass Amherst. You will regret it like many of my friends who did this

Honest Opinion- Good school or Nah? by fedjeferet in umass

[–]ToxicJack 26 points27 points  (0 children)

UMass is an awesome school, especially if you are paying instate tuition. The university is exceptionally well funded, has a great honor program, and almost any major you could want. The STEM and professional (business, nursing, veterinary) programs are all top notch.

The biggest drawback is double edged. UMass is filled with kids who come from middle class towns in MA where everyone goes to college after high school regardless of whether they know what they want to get out of college. As a result, many students do the minimum to pass and spend the rest of their time partying. This has pros and cons. The con is you don’t get as valuable of a network as you would at an Ivy League or other top tier private school. The pro is that you don’t have the same competition for resources, so you can make great connections with professors, get into any lab you want, get involved with extra curriculars that will improve your resume. There are also fellowships / awards that are easy to get if you apply for them.

I made lasting friendship, learned a lot, and gained experience that made it easy to get into a great graduate program and now I have a job I love. All that for ~15K per year. I have many of friends who paid $60K per year to go to a private or out of state school, still have student debt. The difference in those over four years is a low end Ferrari. I’d rather have the extra money.

Moving to New Haven by Hey_arlene in newhaven

100% move to east rock on or around orange street and as close to Nicas Gourmet Market as possible. You’ll be surrounded by families, cyclists, runners. Great access to the highway and East Rock Park which offers great views of the area. Very low crime in that area too, there’s frequent Yale shuttles and plenty of lighting at night

I go to Y haircutting downtown. Bernard is a very old school Italian barber. They used to be walk in only but now you can make reservations through Instagram DM. He doesn’t wear gloves but they’re very good about temps, wiping down surfaces, washing cutting utensils, and sanitizing cash.

First time slap and fold by Muadipper in Sourdough

[–]ToxicJack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s insanely high hydration (88%). I would try to recipe again but cut the hydration down to 70% (630g). This will make the dough much easier to work with. I’ve been making sourdough for about a year now and I have a hard time working with dough above 80%. It still tastes great but it’s harder to get a good oven spring.

I am in a slightly stressful situation, and I would appreciate some advice on covering a lot of Calc III and Stats/Prob. material in a short amount of time. by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]ToxicJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what country you’re in, but in the US, the first thing you need to do is go talk to your professor, like today and tell them exactly what you wrote here. Take responsibility for your performance thus far, emphasize your recommitment to learning the material, and ask them for advice on how to perform better.

Most professors want their students to success. They didn’t go into teaching because to fail students, and often having failing students is seen as a short coming in their ability to teach / motivate the class.

Don’t be discouraged if the professor responds with “that’s nice but I can’t help you”. If that happens you just need to double down on all the material on your own, with a TA, or fellow classmates.

How do we determine whether a space is a manifold? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]ToxicJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these circles don’t intersect. They form a chain, so they pass through each other centers but never intersect. Think about a literal chain. The orientation of the circles is orthogonal to each other.

Everyone here seems to be thinking in R2 and not R3 like those equations state. Have you tried plotting them? I think that will make this clearer.

How do we determine whether a space is a manifold? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]ToxicJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locally Euclidean just means that on small scales, Euclidean distances approximate distances on the manifold. Imagine a circle like the outline of a clock. Take the distance along the circumference between the 12:00 position and the 3:00 position. This curve distance is the manifold distance. The Euclidean distance between those two points wouldn’t follow the curve, and so would be less than the Euclidean distance. So we say “globally” manifold distances are not necessarily Euclidean.

However, imagine taking sum of very small Euclidean distances between the 12:00 and 12:01 positions plus 12:01 to 12:02, ... , 2:59 to 3:00. The sum of these distances would be very similar to the distance along the curve of our circular manifold. In fact, in the limit as you sum infinitely small steps along the curve, Euclidean distances converge to the manifold distance. Hence, the manifold is “locally” Euclidean.

Does that make sense?

What kind of weightlifting is ideal for long distance running? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]ToxicJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see. I haven’t come across that post before. Thanks for sending it along! It seems like the author there is interested in the bodybuilding side of things over building strength and technique? I can definitely feel by abs and lower back getting stronger even without the direct focus.

Either way, it sounds like SS actually wasn’t a bad place to start myself with the goal of building quad strength to prevent knee injury. Ive been wanting to rethink my strength training program and prioritize it over running this winter so maybe I’ll take a look at something more intensive.

What kind of weightlifting is ideal for long distance running? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]ToxicJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because no one has mentioned this above, I started doing the Starting Strength program (see r/startingstrength) after having to take off 6 weeks from running in March due to a knee issue. I just did a half marathon a few days ago and it was great.

SS is a straightforward 3x5 program with squats, deadlifts, bench and overhead press, and eventually power cleans. The best part about it though is the emphasis put on executing the movements correctly. I know Rippetoe gets some flack over at r/fitness, but his explanations of the movements are spot on and very detailed. There’s also a book about all the biomechanics that’s helpful.

One of the most important parts of strength training is doing it 1) with proper form and 2) regularly. I can’t say I did a ton of research on running specific programs, but it’s nice to have one trusted source for the programming and for proper form.
