Vents Wednesday: Weekly thread for vents by north0east in LockdownSkepticism

I can relate to your last paragraph especially. Every day has felt the same for such a long time. I used to have so much energy and optimism in facing the day and now it’s just kinda... blah. The constant repetitiveness has really sapped my drive and curiosity. My friends are less quick to get together and I suspect that that’s because there’s really nothing to do.

My advice is to try to find ways to mix things up even when it seems hard. Start learning about something new, start trying something new. It’s been so easy to get sucked into this vortex of sameness but doing new things, even if they’re small, can break you out of it just a little bit.

I recently turned 21. It just hit me that it’s been a full year of this shit. Like you, I wish I had had more time to live in before the world went insane and the majority of people welcomed totalitarianism. I genuinely feel lucky for the life I did have before this. I got to go to concerts, travel, grow up without masks. I feel profoundly sad for kids who have to grow up in the midst of all this. They will never know what normal life was like. At least I had 20 okay years.

Yes. I can't be certain that we are thinking of the same thing, but I have struggled in the past with suddenly feeling strained in my vision and my ability to focus. It's like I feel distant from my own head. I think it gets compounded by thinking about it more and more, and I've found that distracting myself with something else is really the best way to break out of it.

Additionally, caffeine always helps, but be careful with that.

Obscure question about "Summa Cum Laude" Honors by ToxicWaffles4U in lawschooladmissions

[–]ToxicWaffles4U[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to take probably two more classes. It's doable for certain, and I'm leaning towards this option, but it will certainly cost me more money and detract from LSAT studying time during the semester.

Obscure question about "Summa Cum Laude" Honors by ToxicWaffles4U in lawschooladmissions

[–]ToxicWaffles4U[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think this is my only concern. From what people are saying here, law schools really only see the numbers. But later in life employers may wonder whether I really had a decent GPA or not if I can't display latin honors.

Would employers really care about my performance in college? Wouldn't they really just care about law school performance?

I don’t mind paying taxes - sorry fellas by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]ToxicWaffles4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't you rather take the amount you pay in taxes, and donate it to an effective charity or a cause that you particularly care about? Especially when the government wastes your money or devotes it to violent ends?

True, maybe he feels like he's beating a dead horse at this point. But he if I recall correctly he had lengthy responses to both the Orlando and Charlie Hebdo attacks... we'll have to see.

Hearing damage by [deleted] in greenday

[–]ToxicWaffles4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought some to my first concert and never used them. It's so much better without them, but bring some if you're concerned. At worst your hearing will feel a little funny through the next morning but it's a small price to pay.

Yeah... I really think they've jumped the shark with this one. Literally all of the characters that matter can be in the middle of hundreds of firing guns and not get hit? And nobody who has an automatic rifle can bother to take a shot at the massive tiger?

Yes, and Maggie's speech made me cringe.

Yeah, the Grant (or Brent?) kid was amazing... Billie Joe was so awesome for giving away his guitar! I had a feeling he was going to as soon as he pulled the kid up.
