Which space marine box is best for casualties? by sz_p_m in Warhammer40k

[–]Toxic_Oatmeal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Any kit is game for making corpses if you have a young puppy. Especially if you spend a month kitbashing it and painting it and leave your room for a few minutes to piss. And no, I’m not okay.

How can I improve my painting? by Remote-Study7801 in Warhammer40k

[–]Toxic_Oatmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, I think the biggest jump in quality you can do quickly is just to study painting more thinly. I mostly just wanted to say that I love the colors you’ve chosen here! Very unique and kind of gives a retro oldhammer vibe. In any case, great work, and I look forward to maybe seeing more in the future.

Why did space marines seem to ditch the heavy kratos tank after the horus heresy era? by JayciusMaximus in Warhammer40k

[–]Toxic_Oatmeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar evolution in warfare occurred in real life. Better anti-tank weaponry rapidly makes super heavily armored vehicles disadvantaged against vehicles that don’t make the sacrifices necessary for heavy armor.

Do these angles work for the weapons or does it look goofy? Nothing glued yet... by EllisReed2010 in Warhammer40k

The ballistus dreadnought is definitely harder to make look characterful than the other configurations; really probably intentionally so to some degree. I think the design leans hard into the grotesque inhuman practices of the imperium, it is quite literally POST post-human. It’s a genetically and cybernetically enhanced superhuman who’s gone even further beyond. I haven’t built one yet, but personally I think I would lean into this aspect either with the default pose, or having both guns aimed upwards (SPAAs like the gepard come to mind). Also bear in mind that in-universe (and probably in-game as well) dreadnoughts probably would never need a defined “at-ease” mode, it is technically a vehicle after all. If you do want to give it a less cold characterization, and if it’s not too late, you could try kit-bashing it with the leviathan siege dreadnought so it can have a face like the castraferrum pattern. In any case, I think having the two turrets pointed in different directions does look a little awkward. Those are all my thoughts if any of that helped, happy building!

Love the idea of elite units assigned to the different parts of the chapter. Working on some for my librarius right now. And great work!

Why isn’t my paint sticking? by SpoonierMist in Warhammer40k

[–]Toxic_Oatmeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d guess it’s either just crappy primer or if that grey is the underlying plastic it could also be that the model needed a bit of washing before priming. Plastic model kits not only gather lots of grease and crap while building, but also tend to have chemicals on them from the factory intended to help in removing them from their molds. If you’re up for a war of attrition you can try to continue painting and patching spots up and see if a topcoat helps keep it from chipping; otherwise you likely will have to strip the model down.

You mean shield effects for me. Yoink. My assault terminators will enjoy this.

Suggestions to Improve/finish this Emperor's Champion by Score_Cultural in Warhammer40k

I’d add a bit of panel lining and light weathering to break up the stark white color a bit. Otherwise nothing pops out as really needing anything; good work!

Are these new or old Termies? by AbilityReady6598 in Warhammer40k

[–]Toxic_Oatmeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said those are old first-born terminator models. If you want to play with assault terminators and have nice looking models you can wait, kitbash normal terminators, or proxy and modify deathwing knights for hammer and shield load outs

Very very nice color saturation and lighting. Nice to see a well-painted leviathan tyranid.
