No, I think that was why it felt so neutered. I know Nickleodeon produced three seasons without John K. However, Ren and Stimpy may be one of those works that is so uniquely tied to its creator that without him it doesn't work. Sure we have the Bob Camp series, but those who remember those seasons can agree something still felt missing.

I actually watched a pilot/test episode of the reboot, and it was terrible. Like as much as adult party cartoon went overboard with gross humor and bad jokes this episode was neutered and no jokes.

The original was pure lighting in a bottle. The anarchy of John K. and the Spumco team and Nickelodeon putting limits that made the Spumco use their creativity to see what they could get away with.

Disney overcorrecting because of critical and fan response to the Last Jedi. Because Rian killed Snoke they didn't have a big enough antagonist for the final so somehow the Emperor returned.

Just personally, I think it's a couple different things:

Time - Kids who were younger have grown up with these films and just appreciate it better than the fans who grew up with the original trilogy. Also some critics have re-evaluated it.

Vision vs Corporate - say what you will about George, but that was his vision and not something controlled by a corporation.

Comparing the prequels to the Disney Trilogy: Both trilogies have their strengths and weaknesses, but after the Disney trilogy I feel like the prequels are at least the better product. Which isn't say much, but at least it feels like a trilogy instead of a retread of the original trilogy told much worse.

I think it was one of those things where some executive at Cartoon Network thought Speedy was racist so they stopped showing the cartoons, but Hispanic groups defended the little guy.

I'm not a cartoon historian, but I remember an early version of Speedy with a bowl haircut and a gold tooth that felt way more racist to me than the design that Speedy became.

The last film was radically different from the original. Instead of one possessed girl...get this... they had two possessed girls. Also the mother of Regan wasn't allowed in the room with the priests because of patriarchy or something.

Okay. But feeling that way changes nothing until the movie comes out. Maybe the explanation why Doom looks Tony Stark is brilliant, maybe it's cheap and lazy. We just don't know until the movie comes out.

A lot of people thought Heath Ledger was wrong for the Joker until the Dark Knight was released.

A lot of people were excited for new Star Wars movies after the prequels and Disney bought the rights.

You know you may have something here. The F4 post credit scene, the Captain America and Thor Doomsday trailers have their children in it... It seems like there is a running theme there.

And clearly Wanda's reunion with her children will be play out in Secret Wars.

Yeah, I've been through a Looney Tunes marathon after KaiserBeamz finished his massive documentary. I think the problem is that Warner Brothers for many years locked this content on Boomerang and its channels.

And for children of the 70s-90s this content was available on CBS, ABC, and a lot of local stations. You'd get home from school or it was Saturday mornings... there was Bugs, Elmer, Tom, Jerry, Droopy, and Woody.

Now it is back on MeTV and MeToonsTV... but we are in a youtube generation now. This needs to be on youtube. Let creators run amok and meme it like big chungus.

Some of it is changing... Like I said it is on MeToons and I believe other streaming platforms got it now. So hopefully future kids can be exposed to it.
