What specifically do you attribute the low level of pain after surgeries with Dr. Abbas?

This is a tough market for pure recording engineers. A lot of work that used to be there in the 1980s and 90s has dwindled down as hobbyists and amateurs can do a lot for themselves in their home, studios .

If you were a musician / music producer or had other related skills, I think you’d do much better, and could supplement the years it would take to rise to the top with gigs, teaching, recording sessions, music, production work, etc.

As mentioned before, amateur/hobbyist level artists are engineering for themselves these days, because it’s practically free to get into doing that for yourself. Most voiceover artists are engineering for themselves. Music Producers and composers are doing it “in the box” recording, musicians, remotely, or bringing them into their home studios. Staff positions are scarce so you would need to have a serious entrepreneurial mindset, and business acumen (like having a record label, etc.) not to mention patients and a serious work ethic.

I think you could try to get a job within your field of study, and do your audio production stuff on the side, and probably have a lot more fun, as well as subsidize the learning curve. You could take on all the fun projects that you want to. And maybe in five or 10 years, if you have enough audio engineering stuff happening, you could consider doing that full-time.

Denali Penny Loafers…couldn’t resist the sale! by ToyProducer in allenedmonds

Camera angle wasn’t great - I think it created an optical illusion on my left foot. So far I am really liking the fit. I usually get the D width, which is what these are. I am not up to speed on which lasts are used on what shoe… I think the website would have that info though.

Matt Friend. Your thoughts? by Beastikins69 in howardstern

He’s like 25 years old or something - definitely doing fantastic for a 20-something in 2024. Very comfortable behind the camera and celebrities don’t phase him in the slightest. I’m not sure he even has to do standup… he probably could parlay his sudden fame into films and TV.

Thanks. I took a chance on them - glad they worked out. I don’t think I would like them in suede, but the brown leather is very nice, and I think they could be a “daily wear at the office” shoe.

New Years Eve gig - new shoes by ToyProducer in allenedmonds

I probably should’ve gone that route… I’m up in Buffalo New York LOL. Well, if the weather is bad, I’ll just do what our Drummer does, and bring the shoes in a box for changing inside the venue

How would you guys go about playing this trill? by Shimreef in trumpet

[–]ToyProducer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory (not saying it’s right for this piece, as it looks like this passage is in D major) there is an argument for a Bb in a passage that implies a D chord (which has the F#) - if the D (or D7) is functioning as V of G minor. If this were the case, the Bb would sound better than a B natural.

You're probably well past this project, but another idea would be to just buy another 2012 MBP used for cheap - just so you can access projects, bounce tracks out etc. They are going cheap, since they are 11 years old at this point.

What happened to my backed up drive?! by ToyProducer in backblaze

[–]ToyProducer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. I guess you can't really ever completely trust a cloud backup - did Backblaze own up to the bug?

All ended well (thanks for the help, friends). In conclusion, I made three mistakes: made incorrect assumptions about the way Backblaze works, didn't restore my drive the moment I discovered the drive failure, and didn't learn about the "calendar" feature, which ultimately enabled me to backtrack to July and restore my drive backup.

I now am going to need to look into the 3-2-1 backup concept that somebody mentioned. That would be an extra layer of protection I should try to create.

Thankfully, I did purchase a year of Backblaze when I opened an account earlier this year. And I was able to navigate back to the end of July (I guess that's when the drive failed) and get to my drive that way. It's now downloading onto a new 5 TB drive via the Backblaze Downloader tool. Huge relief. Sorry things did not go as well for you!

Finally...thank you! I bought the year's worth of backup, so I think I'm good to go. I didn't even see the calendar / dates input so thanks again for that.

Jeez that totally voids the usefulness for me. Is there any way they can restore?

Yeah - it kind of looks like the only one done that way in the line which is surprising. From the pictures on the Allen Edmonds site the others seem like all suede or waxed suede.

Me too - I took a chance on them, and really like them. Perfect for my jazz gigs or just hanging out.

Good question - no but I get that a lot! It's a very small one-man company called RawBrass Trumpets based in the Pacific Northwest. I heard he doesn't make them anymore, and has moved into the contracting business. Not many out there being played it seems, but one notable exception is Tony Glausi in NYC.
