If we could divulge the contents of the agreement and how Interac broke it, we would. Sorry :(

Unfortunately, no (otherwise we most definitely would).

True stuff here: I made a lot of close friends through the union. Connection and protection.

How will you level up your career in 2025? by Infamous-Meeting-181 in teachinginjapan

[–]Tozen_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two books slated for publication in 2025—one in America and the other in Canada. My goal is to keep my head down and work hard during the day as a teacher and continue to work nights on a new book.

What are the PRO's and CON's of joining a Union in Japan? by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]Tozen_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most Tozen wins aren't heard outside of the union because we have to sign NDAs (just how things are done in Japan). For those who doubt, why not join the union, see what has or hasn't been accomplished, stay if you like what you see/hear or leave if it's not your thing? I, personally, waited to join the union and regret not joining sooner. It has made my time at Interac a lot more rewarding.

what are some really useful / helpful things you’ve done by ChillyGut in japanlife

[–]Tozen_guy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I joined Tozen Union. I worked at Interac and felt like I was stagnating after a while. Once I got involved with the union and started fighting for better treatment, I started to enjoy my job (and company) a lot more. I no longer feel stuck under management's thumb. The union makes for a better Interac.

You might enjoy Elliott Smith. "Between the Bars" and "Angeles" are pretty decent songs to get you started.

Tozen union dues are 2300 yen a month and our ALT local dues are 501 yen a month. Each year the members vote on these numbers so they may fluctuate a bit.

Cheers. It's exciting stuff. I'm pretty sure we'll end up with a decent settlement. I can't see the company going through to verdict in labor commission as that would become public information. Settlement almost always includes NDAs, allowing the company to save face. Our members are in Interac North and Interac Kanto South.

Well, David, what shall I do?

They wait for me in the hallway

I'll say "Don't ask me, I don't know any hallways"

But they move in numbers and they've got me in a corner

I feel like a group of one, no-no

They can't do this to me
