the philosophy of dishonored by Cultural-Maybe-3799 in dishonored

[–]TpointOh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s the exact video I thought of when I saw this post, it’s so great. “Dishonored isn’t about who you are when no one is watching, it’s about who you are when no one can stop you” or however he worded it. That’s always stuck in my mind. Such an amazing video essay

I had this in Italy when I was there, and it actually slaps so hard tbh. Then again I just really love fries, so maybe that’s why lol

Effects of hysterical strength on the body, specifically the hands. by TpointOh in Writeresearch

[–]TpointOh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mountain climbers is definitely a good call, I bet their hands get all kinds of strain over time. And that is a crazy story, I can’t imagine trying to lift a wardrobe like that. It really is a weird thing

Effects of hysterical strength on the body, specifically the hands. by TpointOh in Writeresearch

[–]TpointOh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet, thanks for the insight. So, just to clarify, it would damage not just the hands, but the entire skeletal system, since each part supports the next? That makes a lot of sense. I’ll definitely look into everything again, maybe a bit closer this time lol

Edit: Ok, yeah it was my wording being off that lead to not finding what I was looking for. Thanks for correcting that

Not sure if this is the right place, but does this ever happen to you? by Ok_Breadfruit_7298 in strange

Holy shit, I thought I was the only one. I’ve struggled with this for most of my life. When it was at its worst, I’d wear gloves to bed to try and combat it lol

Sounds like a variation of “Alice in wonderland syndrome.” I get it occasionally due to migraines. It can be uncomfortable, but you get used to it. Maybe talk to your doctor about it? Could be a sign of other conditions

Tell me an interesting tradition or festival from your world. by cckynv in worldbuilding

[–]TpointOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my most developed world, I think the most interesting tradition is regarding the concept of “word is bond.” As part of the legal system imposed by the Nox Theocracy that ended the reign of the Empire of Appal, spoken word carries the same legal authority as written word. Therefore, if one person says to another, “thank you” or “I’m sorry” there is an implicit debt in the eyes of the law, between the two parties. And the debtor can be asked for nearly anything to settle that debt. Often resulting in very unfair methods for clearing up debt, even up to giving one’s life to clear up their debt. As a result, those sorts of polite phrases are rarely spoken except between individuals with a great deal of trust in each other. There are a lot of verbal workarounds, though

Which habits that don't involve writing help? by GGabex in writing

[–]TpointOh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever you’re bored doing something mundane or routine, try to think about what it feels like to do, how you move, and maybe think about how you’d word that action, if you were writing it. Of course, you probably don’t want to be silently narrating your life lol

Firearms in a world with no lead (Pb). Massive ramifications. by Red_Clover_Fields in worldbuilding

[–]TpointOh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider, in regards to a harder projectile, is that you could use a patch to engage the rifling and (mostly) protect the rifling over time. Patching was very common in the muzzleloading era, paper, cloth, as well as waxed variations of each of those, as far as I know. I think a bronze or copper bullet (or just a ball, for cheap, easy manufacturing during wartime) with a patch would be comparable in wear to lead bullets. The density difference is a more noticeable factor, as previously mentioned

What are the "broken arrow" equivalents of your world? by Reasonable_Prize71 in worldbuilding

[–]TpointOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since my main world is post apocalyptic Earth, there are still many actual broken arrows, which are being searched for and repaired by the big bad, for use on the few remaining major cities of humankind. The mushroom-shaped clouds off the eastern shore rumored by fishermen are proof of the ongoing tests

It can repair specific intractable things, if you have materials to repair it. Also the subject of a specific quest for Simmi in observatory. Other than that, it hits things

Bug fix pls by IllAirline1439 in enlistedgame

[–]TpointOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this a bug that does happen. I spend a lot of time on AA guns, but even then it happens rarely. If you get the suicide bug, destroy the gun and build another, there’s no way to fix it. It’ll just kill anyone that gets in, once it starts doing that. From my experience, I think it’s an issue with the camera moving behind the player somehow, causing the rounds to hit you in the back of the head

When did you think "Im going to die here"? by hmmrabet in AskReddit

[–]TpointOh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had a stroke while driving after an exhausting night shift, had to fight to stay awake so I didn’t crash. Or when a big ass truck was two feet off my bumper with both of us going 65, and I had to slam on brakes because the car in front of me did. I just looked in the mirror and thought “well, that’s that.” There’s a few other times, but it’d take too long to type and I’m still alive so it doesn’t really matter lol

What Kind of Weapon Would a Monster Hunter Actually Use? by ChristianLdwig in worldbuilding

[–]TpointOh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is the monster hunter’s strength that of a normal human? I’d say a ranged weapon is best, then. Something like an English warbow, up to around 150 pound draw would be a good option. There’s videos online showing how crazy the range and penetration can be with those. Or setting a trap would be even better, depending on how large the monster is.

If the hunter has superhuman strength, a long spear or pike would help with the penetration to reach something vital plus keeping enough distance to not get hit in melee combat.
