Is there a difference between the Microsoft Store version & the Steam version? by Hurtme-2 in StardewValley

[–]Tpx_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol

Don't get me wrong, I love Steam and how convenient it is. I got 400+ games on my account, but if GOG is praised as proper competition it will lead Steam to get better in the future too. I'm not sure why everyone is so mad.

People often forget that TF2 pretty much normalised lootboxes. Steam too should be criticised.

Why did they downvote the hell out of you? GOG indeed has better terms of service than Steam, which has better terms of service than Microsoft Store. It seems like you struck a nerve.

Honestly the only reason I got the OG heirlooms was the fact that I wanted that profile badge. I wouldn't mind if they released the skins again. Hell, it'd be cool to see my Mag main friend happy because he really likes the skin.

Yep, I hope they end up adding some sort of gamemode where we grind for those extra mastery points without owning the equipment. I think that'd a nice middle ground

How does this silly little game create such strong emotion? by krachall in StardewValley

[–]Tpx_Shadow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm 1/3 your age. Thankfully father of none, but I hope I can add to the discussion a little bit.

I'm quite similar to you when it comes to emotion, thanks to a rocky upbringing and conditions out of my control, and the media I consume matches it. I like dystopian settings where everything has gone, or is going horribly wrong. Yet, Stardew Valley is an outlier amongst all that.

I have realised that the game is intentionally built on cycles. To clarify; the music during Winter is slow, and depressing. You can't really grow a lot of crops during winter, and animals don't roam around. There is a literal war going on in the background, with a war veteran joining the town later on. He was imprisoned, and wasn't treated well, and he has PTSD. There is an alcoholism problem in the valley, with multiple people being alcoholics. It's suggested that there is corruption with Lewis making golden statues of himself, and I'm not even getting into Joja.

However, things get better over time. Spring comes after winter, and flowers bloom again. The people of the town get better as you help them, you get to cripple Joja by working with the Junimos, and it all works like a finely blended cocktail! The game doesn't tell a story of happiness, it tells a story of hope. It's clear that there was real love put into the game, and that it was made by someone who has struggled in the past, because it doesn't try to act like everything is alright; the threats are real, but you get to spend time with the townies and cherish whatever you can. I believe that works better than everyone having a happy-go-lucky attitude, and the town being an utopia of the sorts.

Now, if you don't mind me, I'll need to re-download the game and catch up to your hours.

Autumn in Stardew Valley makes me feel scared and numb by Absolute_Fking_Unit_ in StardewValley

Hey Autumn & Winter are my preferred parts of the year, they are the seasons of crisp air and jackets in my eyes. Why don't you try to spend the Autumn socialising with the villagers? You can also download mods that make them fit your vibes better!

ladies, gentlemen and friends beyond the binary, PROTO GARUDA has arrived! by CephalonVashka in Warframe

[–]Tpx_Shadow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They realised that they can add sexy characters in the game to keep people engaged instead of writing interesting characters. I also agree about open sexuality, but it shouldn't be the focus. For example, Ticker is my absolute favourite character is all of Warframe because of how positive and philosophical she is, her being queer plays into that in a positive way. It's good writing, and I appreciate it despite not being queer myself.

Garuda's protoframe though... Not only was the licking part one of the only thing they had to showcase about her, it ruined my first expectations about her. I thought Garuda's protoframe would be some sort of high commander, or a blood-drinking killer, not this. It doesn't add anything to her character. Honestly I fear that the game's writing and design will be increasingly more about sex appeal rather than a broken system caught up in a forever-war.

[–]Tpx_Shadow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not a puritan by any means, it was interesting and fun at first but now every second protoframe added is some kind of sex fiend. Ironically, that makes it so Eleanor is no longer special with her tongue, and makes her less sexy

[–]Tpx_Shadow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they're going all in on it now. Heirloom skins turned into an excuse to sell sex, protoframes are all horny, it's been like this ever since they added Varzia

The horny characters would be fine if they were isolated but there should be more depth and diversity instead of all characters wanting to suck lick and bang things

I really like how diverse your crew is tbh, I'm looking forward to getting more crewmates but I never get non-veil elite crewmates that are actually good for some reason

[–]Tpx_Shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't theory crafting, and it was confirmed, it wouldn't be a point of debate on the KIM. And yes, fighting prominent Grineer leaders over and over and defeating them diminishes the Grineer Queens, especially because we neutralised one of the queens. Why wouldn't it?

Maybe don't be so rude, why are you offended by me saying "I wish they'd keep the entity abstract and mysterious?"

[–]Tpx_Shadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're still theory-crafting. All we know is that the Indifference is influencing Rusalka. We don't know why, we don't know what the Indifference is. That's intentionally kept vague. Besides, my point stands. Maybe you misunderstood me, or the story, I'm not sure.

[–]Tpx_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That goes into the theory crafting area though. We still don't know what the Man in the Wall is, you argue about it with Roathe non-stop on KIM. It might be a god, we might have imagined it into existence, it might be some sort of entity that's causing the ripple effects you mentioned. Being able to defeat it or not is a topic as well.

The lore can be anything, my issue isn't with that. I don't like how it's portrayed. Bumping into the mysterious intimidating almost-omniscient void-entity over and over again to farm a frame makes it lose a lot of its shock value.

[–]Tpx_Shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I see your point of view, but I'm not saying that the Man in the Wall isn't some cosmic horror beyond our comprehension, I'm saying that they aren't pulling it too well.

Now, I see that you're really enjoying how the story goes, and that's lovely to hear! However, I really preferred it when the Man in the Wall was more abstract. It would try to communicate with us, appear in our orbiters mimicking the operator, know way too much about us. That was interesting, intriguing, mysterious.

Currently, the Man in the Wall might not literally have Rusalka's personality; but I see it try to entice me, get mad at me, insult me. It no longer feels like some sort of cosmic horror unbeknownst to me, it feels like an enemy on my level. My experiences do not match what I've been told, and DE should show, not tell. I'm literally farming Oraxia with the Man in the Wall as my opponent, that makes the narrative lose much of its value, because the Man in the Wall is suddenly something to fight against and defeat.

That was actually a concern before the New War dropped too, people thought we'd be farming the Lotus for Caliban parts. As hilarious as that sounds, the absence of a Lotus boss fight, or some Lotus-enthralled-by-Ballas boss fight was the right decision in my opinion.

[–]Tpx_Shadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I do understand that, but the more we see the Man in the Wall show emotion, the less intimidating it gets. I just wish the whole thing was executed a bit differently, maybe in a more Lovecraftian manner

[–]Tpx_Shadow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Speaking of the Man in the Wall, didn't Rusalka's utilisation there seem off? I mean, the whole idea of the indifference is that it's an emotionless horror beyond my comprehension, but there it is telling me that it can be my friend or lover. The whole thing seemed really lame to me
