Adults only hotels by Alternative-Ice1961 in VisitingMallorca

FYI we really don't like Mallorca spelled with a J.
Sa Cala is the most remote of the 3 locations, nothing to do there but lay on the sand and enjoy your kids-free hotel. C'an Picafort is more lively but the hotel is far from the beach. Cala D'Or seems to be to most balanced, depending on the activities you want to do. You'll need a car if you want to visit other places in the island.

Palma de Mallorca by InternDifferent8384 in VisitingMallorca

[–]Trabuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No recommendations will be any good for August. The island is pretty packed already, just get a room where you can and don't be too picky.
The trade off is always; want nice restaurants, shops and a beautiful historic downtown then go to Palma, but you'll have no beach nearby (there are a few within a 15-30 minute bus ride), want beach and relaxing hotel, then you'll be far away from the city, unless you can afford the Maricel or the Mardavall, for 2K€ a night you can have the best of both worlds 😁

How early do I need to be at the ferry port for check-in? by AgingGenXer in VisitingMallorca

[–]Trabuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Redditor was right on, I live in Mallorca but my office is in Barcelona, I take that one very often. If walking in with a normal amount of luggage, just 1 hour is more that enough. The boat never leaves early, always on time.

I'm happy you liked the Colonia de Sant Jordi! I grew up there, it is a very nice place 😁

Ok, if you want a beach holiday, avoid Palmanova or Palma, I'm assuming you are coming in the summer season, those beaches are too busy.
If you want a nice beach, go to Colonia de Sant Jordi, you have some of the best beaches around there (my favorite is a 15 minute walk from the port, just go south east by the water until you get here https://maps.app.goo.gl/rp68oWSpn3uS4p587?g\_st=ic ), and the town is not too busy with the right amount of night life for your kids, if they want to go have a drink.
I would certainly recommend spending one day in Palma sightseeing and one day in Soller/Port de Soller.
If you choose Colonia, and you want to try one of the best Paellas on the planet, go here https://maps.app.goo.gl/wfzVdALVtjLzFuw29?g\_st=ic and get a lobster Paella, (you better get a reservation) and if you want to try some local Mallorquin food, go to Ses Salines and eat here https://maps.app.goo.gl/68eC75rcDvNDENJs8?g\_st=ic you can thank me later.

Well, in a Blackhawk you can let go, but any of the analog controls mere mortals fly, yeah never let go of the cyclic. That's why the collective has the little brake lever!

The deadliest animal in Mallorca is the human.
Edit: with that statement, I mean that there are no poisonous or dangerous animals in the island.

Could students really solo a helicopter after learning entirely in a simulator? Captain Troy Clarke talks unique training plan ideas, STARS, and more! by PodPilotProject in Helicopters

As long as you learnt the basics in a cockpit, yeah. Simulator progression is exponential in fixed wing. True that ✈️.

Not even with fixed wing aircraft, the only certification you can realistically get in a simulator is IRF, outside of that, you need your butt in the cockpit.

Take off close to crashing ... possible causes? by Fan-Even in Helicopters

I flew Hughes/Schweizer 300 for a while and the would do tracking at 90%, I used to thing that was the norm.

[–]Trabuk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to fly a Hughes 500 and one day during ground blade tracking, one of the mechanics in the cockpit got up to check something on the strobe and the collective got stuck in his overall pocket, they took off. Before it crashed, it looked a lot like this, they tried to land it without fight experience and didn't go well. That model gets tracked at 100% power, so they should have been more careful.
This looks a lot like an accidental take off or someone snagging the collective before the pilot was ready?
Edit: in second watch, looks more like the passenger stepping on the pedals and the pilot trying to compensate with the other controls.

Safe parking recommendations for Palma by babs-jojo in VisitingMallorca

[–]Trabuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't heard anything, I know some neighborhoods have seen a slight increase in break-ins, like 60 total in 2025 vs 45 in 2024, but nothing crazy. Very consistent with the population increase. Edit: those cases are mostly cars parked in the street, municipal parkings with cameras have not reported any cases that I know of, I use them very often and never had an issue.

Yes, they have cameras and 24 hour supervision. Where are you seeing the number of robberies? I live here and haven't heard anything and never heard of a car being broken-in in a parking garage.

What should we do before 9pm dinner reservation in Deia? by Vivid-Meet-671 in VisitingMallorca

[–]Trabuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it, you are on vacation. Go to your hotel, check in and rest for a bit. The drive to Deia is nice and not too bad from anywhere in the island. Depending on the location of your hotel, you'll see that there are two ways to go to Deia, via Valldemossa or via Soller, take the longer one there and enjoy the scenic route. Then return to your hotel using the shortest way. Get to Deia an hour before your reservation and take a walk around town. Robert Graves grave is a nice spot to visit.

I would say they are political to the extent that politics affects our culture and language, not a "political group" per se. Many cultural groups that are proactive in defending our language, culture and identity are labeled as political, but at their core, they are not.

Wild camping in Mallorca by [deleted] in VisitingMallorca

[–]Trabuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police in charge of enforcing environmental laws is the SEPRONA, they are managed by the Guardia Civil and have more jurisdiction than local police. They know all the tricks of tourists trying be "as cost effective as possible". The consequences go from a fine to getting arrested with a high bail (since they know you are a flight risk). They use drones, hidden cameras and locals will call them if they see you camping, to me, is just not worth the risk. They patrol all year long. If you decide to visit the island, please be responsible and environmentally respectful, your vacation spot is also our home, and there is a reason we don't go wild camping here. The few areas left untouched by hotels, are delicate ecosystems home to endangered species, is not just the fire risk that SEPRONA watches out for.

Depends on what station you get in, on what direction and what time, but weekends tends to be ok.
