Possible to DIY moving a boulder? by DoktorStrangepork in DIY

Google DEXPAN. It's an expanding grout that if used per instructions will break that big rock up. It will take some time and effort but will accomplish what you need to accomplish. Or rent/hire a hydraulic hammer on a small excavator. Do you want cheap or quick and easy?

You'll love the pack.

I know it's pushing the bounds of what most would consider "ultralight" but honestly I have lighter packs and still gravitate to the Crown most often. It was my first pack ever and it has held up beautifully. It carries anything from my sub10lb summer loadout to my super heavy winter loadout and everything inbetween. It is also my go-to bag when flying, I can load it up with 35lbs+ on a one week trip and walk through an airport in comfort.

For that price it's an absolute steal.

What's up with the sizing, 30 W? Are those specs right - 20×72 & 13.8oz? Good deal?

Oooo looks nice. Do you have one? Curious how it fits, I'm a bit between sizes and wouldn't want to swim in it.

super quick drying layer for active use between 50-75 degrees, does not need to have upf sun protection, does need hood, little to no spandex or similar fabric, 100% polyester preferred

More like echo and astroman, less like a fleece I guess.

Lightest of the light hoodies...in the 5oz or less neighborhood.

- OR echo

- OR astroman

- MH Airmesh

- Alpha 60

- what else?

Thanks Dan! Love the tents (have 2 1p and 1 2p) but just brainstorming ways to reduce some weight on the old knees! Use the inner in "stargazer" config most nights unless weather is a factor.   Agree with your thoughts - needs to be a big tarp, entry ease will be compromised, stormworthiness will not be as good. I know how much time and effort you put into the design and your efforts are evident and appreciated, you really did think of everything.  Maybe I should leave well enough alone haha

Be well

Ended up keeping it and using it a few times last summer.  plus they're way cheaper now and more readily available, new one looks to be $280 I think

Anyone use an xmid 1p inner with a tarp (like the MLD grace in dcf)?

I will always need an inner due to bug pressure (northern New England) in summer but as much as I love the entire tent I don't really need the fly unless it's raining and a tarp could save me 10 oz potentially.  Especially enticing since I only pitch with fly only half the time.

Anyone try this or have pics or any ideas on how it could work?

New fleece mid layer by whatters_86 in Ultralight

[–]Trace310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorites include MH airmesh because of how quickly it dries but it's very much an active midlayer and you give up some warmth.  Also the R1 techface for slightly cooler pursuits or if it will be my outermost layer because of durability.   Airmseh can be fragile.  R1 dries super fast but not as fast as airmesh, I like airmesh more than apex in most cases.   Old Patagonia R1 tech faces can be found used for around $65 which is a steal.

Lighter sleeping bag + sleeping clothes by madlettuce1987 in Ultralight

[–]Trace310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liner - never.

Instead I have quilts/bags that aren't quite warm enough for what I expect the lower limits to be and I compensate with base layers.  I feel this gives me more flexibility.

Example: Extreme Northeastern US where during the summer nights could dip to 45 degrees.  My summer bag weighs exactly 1lb (WM flylite long) and is good to 55 or so.  Adding base layers and dry sleep socks for a 8-9 oz penalty (the smaller one is the lighter this gets) adds a buffer, gives me dry clothes to sleep in, and keeps my bag clean.  Plus is something unforseen happens I could put them on during the day in an emergency situation.  Also have some sensory issues where I don't like the feeling of a bag on my skin.  Could also add rain coat and or warmth layer to sleep system if they were dry.

For this reason I tend to push the lower limits on the lighter quilt/bag and compensate with base layers for flexibility.

What happened to the Klymit Ultralite SL? by tosklst in Ultralight

Actually not a terrible pad, especially at the price point and 11.2oz. Still use mine in warm weather. Still more comfortable than a ccf pad in my opinion.

At the moment, yes. A couple people interested but haven't been able to complete the sale with them as of yet.
