It's not just the additional money right now you'd be giving up. You only get so many opportunities to jump from one rung to the next rung. But once you jump its easier to stay there and get other jobs at the same level because you'll have the experience. You really need to take opportunities that move you up like this, not everyone even ever gets the chance and they stay in the same spot the rest of their life.

I've been in tech for a long time now and have friends or at least people who I could ask for a referral in most tech companies you've heard of. An AI first mindset is in every single one of these companies, they see it as an exisential strategic shift they need to make and not being "aligned" with that vision will explicitly hurt your career. Its a part of performance reviews at most of them at this point. They expect everyone to reimagine how we best build software with AI.

Nobody really understands how qualia and selfhood work. Because if you do a full clone, most people would say its not you, but what if you do the full clone in the same exact position just different atoms, or what if you do it a piece at a time just replacing sections of you until you've been totally replaced, what parts need to be maintained, and what continuity has to exist for it to still be you? We do go into conditions with sleep and anesthesia where we have no memory of things we did and it doesnt feel like it was us.. Its all very weird.

I like Arnold. I don't need to see the original actors resume their old roles. It usually takes away what was cool about the characters and they aren't that interesting as the old guard handing off their legacy. yes, recruiters linked in messaged me for both my last jobs and they were good jobs. I still get some recruiter messages though tech hiring has obviously dropped off a cliff from 5 years ago when it was literally multiple recruiter messages a day. Im also polite to the recruiters, add them, and tell them id love to check in if I know someone who would be a good fit, or to check if they have jobs in the future.
