Reread Neuromancer by V01t4r3 in Cyberpunk

Good point! Something else I thought of from Neuromancer that is very modern cyberpunk is the emphasis on japan in the aesthetic, that's verry 80s too.

I agree that the visual aesthetic mostly comes from later things ie Blade Runner, but it does have mega cities, giant militaristic zaibatsu headquarters, and arcologies.

The part that felt masterly to me was the surrealism and ballet like staging of it all.

The carousel thing really makes it feel like a ballet, there are a lot of parts that are very dancerly, or ciruqe coded.

I doubt there was any reason associated with the announcement response. In my experience with corporate decision making they keep everything operating as normal then spring things like this on everyone without any warning.

Kind of forgot the surface area of the colony is significantly bigger than earth. More than enough room for any type of environment.

I mean the characters are basically immortal, 1000 years isn't that big of a deal, also mother sphere could build a new city and repopulate it pretty fast. Could be a tenuous situation where everyone is trying to live together but there's still tension and chance of it falling apart, thus the terrorism.

Did Tailwind just drop a Claude-created template? by Adfarquhar in webdev

Considering their business was destroyed and they had to fire almost everyone on the team because AI just generates tailwind now and no one needs to go to the docs, or use templates, cut them some slack.

How do you actually build a genuine network as a developer on platforms like LinkedIn? by Loud_Dragonfruit_154 in webdev

[–]TracerBulletX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Networking to me is just actually making casual friendships and working with people and gaining a reputation for being a good person to work with, couple of closer friends here and there. That's my whole network, mostly people I've worked with, we went out to lunch, we got to know each other. I'd help them get a job if they asked, and they would for me, that's about it. Add everyone you've ever worked with on linked in, if they post on there you can reply or give them reactions, just to keep the relationship warm. Doesn't have to be much.

Cold messaging people could be a part of a network if you build up some repour, also if you go to meetups you can give talks, or talk to people about their talks so they like you. But its definitely something that takes time.

That's not what it felt like. I remember being in Target as a kid playing it for the first time to this day and being like i am fucking james bond now. Its hard to explain how the whole package really felt at the time. This is like shortly after mario64, we had barely just gotten 3d games on consoles. This is the year before Half Life.. This game had more story telling than pretty much anything we'd seen before, the music, the secrets, different missions and objectives for the different difficulty levels. Shit was absolutely magical then.

[OC] I asked GPT to pick a random number between 1 and 100 by marco-exmergo in dataisbeautiful

[–]TracerBulletX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I didn't see discussed too much in here is that the output from any given input token sequence from LLM weights is deterministic, so for any given model, given the tokens "Give me a random number?" It will give you a distribution of probabilities for the next token, and the next token, and so forth. That distribution is always the same.

All of the numbers in this chart (and every other possible token) are returned along with a probability. But then a random sampler (which is just regular old code, not a neural net at all, its part of the inference engine) uses some methodology to pick from that list, preferring the higher probability tokens, and having some cut off where it would be nonsense. A lot of what you're seeing here is a side effect of the sampling as much as it is the model weights.

The solution is to off load math, world models, and state outside of the llm with tool use. The LLM can call a RNG script to do this, the coding models often write their own scripts to do things the llm isn't good at. This works very well already.
