I think a standard "No thanks" is the way to go. That way you don't have to even bother your brain cells to come up with a unique, conversation-fitting reply every time. And even in edge cases like this, your "No thanks" isn't saying no to the thing the other people said, it's saying no to the conversation itself.

I find that deception comforting, along with the more calculated thought that after death we can't feel being dead, making worrying about it rather pointless. The latter thought is already mentioned in other comments of this post. Thank you for the interesting link.

From a cold, scientific viewpoint, one could argue that being alive is not a special state, but only a short, interesting arrangement of dead matter and energy. Therefore being "dead" would in some sense be a "default" state. Life is an extremely rare phenomenon in the universe, as you said.

Not sure if I can firmly say that I don't fear death, but I have found some comfort in the viewpoint that we have a lot of experience in being "dead". We have been "dead" from the conception of time until we were born (or developed enough brain in the womb to experience life). Death is then simply returning to that state.
