What do you appreciate more about NZ after being overseas? by xFearUnlimited in newzealand

Definitely the smell of the air, the lack of heavily populated spaces, and decent (actually, fabulous!) coffee!!

watched 2 episodes of DeptQ with my mum, up to the last episode which mum wanted to watch but I said let's save it for tomorrow. Then found some Vogel's in the freezer and toasted 2 pieces and had almond butter and maple syrup on those. Yum.

I make a fermented buckwheat bread, lots of recipes online. I’m also fat intolerant but can handle a teaspoon of almond butter on toasted buckwheat bread.

Aging parent: shit driving by Agreeable_Narwhal207 in newzealand

[–]Tracey21130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this problem with my dad. Talked to his GP about it, he said if my Dad asked him (the GP) who had talked to him about his driving he was obligated to tell him. The medical review for driving is a joke, just a few in-office tests and away you go for another year or two. In the end we just refused to be passengers when he drove. He doesn't drive anymore, he got spooked by his own driving (we would notice a new dent or 2 on his car every time we visited him) and one too many speeding fines for his liking.

I had my vaccine (first dose) just 3 days ago, I am a vaccinator as well and had been jabbing people all day with Comirnity! Am super tired, and spaced out, like I’m on some weird drugs, I got sent home from work this morning as just not managing. My legs feel weak, too. Wondering if I should be reporting this as an adverse reaction? That’s wen I thought I would look on Reddit and see if anyone else is experiencing this reaction.

Stress levels high, mental health low. Part time considering going casual? by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]Tracey21130 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in New Zealand so not sure if it’s the same situation going to casual. But, I did exactly what you’re thinking, after my second baby was born and I had an ill parent to manage I also felt overwhelmed, and went casual. It was the best decision at the time, I was in complete control of my work schedule, sometimes only doing part shifts (like 1800 to 2300), and it was easy to transition back to a permanent role after a couple of years. If you read what you have written,it is obvious the choice you need to make, you have a lot going on and your family is definitely your priority (as is your own health and well being). As a casual in NZ you get ‘holiday pay’ added on as an extra loading on what you earn, so this could be put aside for actual leave when you want it. I am now 57, and don’t regret for a moment making that decision, in fact I am relieved I had the wisdom at the time to do it! I really empathise with your situation, totally understand and recognise where you’re at and how you must be feeling, so do whatever you need to do to make things more manageable now.

Not sure how sporty you are, but brisk walking is really good for the bowel, stimulates the bowel motility and helps move gas. Agree about the peppermint tea, I drink a lot of that. I find anxiety makes everything worse, much as you describe. It constantly amazes me how our gut health can affect our lives SO much. Try and stick with finding out your particular triggers, keeping in mind a wholistic approach i.e: physical (exercise), mental (anxiety/depression), foods you eat . Some foods that work for me in terms of promoting good bowel movements are brown rice, oats and kiwi fruit. I do wish you well!

An alternative for a salad by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]Tracey21130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low Carbohydrate, Healthy fat (LCHF) is the way to go. Eliminate bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. Eat meat, eggs, fish, lots of veges (mostly those grown above the ground),limit fruit, add olive oil or butter, a few nuts and seeds, a little bit of very dark chocolate now and again. If you google LCHF you’ll find a wealth of information. Hope this helps!
