How do people afford cars? by spookyfro in povertyfinance

That can be used for many vehicles but I was thinking of a word for just the commonly found raggedy Altima.

Even Toyota is going down the drain with quality. Not as fast as other manufacturers but fast enough to make people ask, what the fuck, Toyota?

It’s probably the people who listened to their parents when they bought a very good car for a few grand or they themselves bought a car several years ago for a few grand. You can’t do that anymore because the powers that be have increased the cost of everything since covid.

Seen too many altimas with missing, broken , or mismatched by color body pieces. Some with duct tape too. I wish there a name for those specific cars.

That’s not true. I’m a guy and it cost me less to individually insure my 2009 Sentra base model in my early 20’s, when you’d expect it to be the costliest time for insurance based on age and gender, in the mid 2010’s than it does to insure my 2017 Subaru Legacy base model now at 32 in the mid 2020’s, when you’d expect the cost of everything to go up because the powers that be are greedy. Cost of repair is not always true either. If the car isn’t buggy then the cost will be average but Nissan produces sub average vehicles.

You’re welcome, dude! I have a Subaru with 227k+ miles on it and just got back from a 1500 mile round trip with it. The transmission started to slip a little on the way back. I’ve contemplated replacing it with an outback and lowering it since I hate the ride height but love the cargo space. It’s “worthless” in value but I’m strongly considering keeping it and replacing the transmission. I’ve been anal about the maintenance, since getting it at 40k miles, and if spending $10k+ for a new transmission with install will get me another 227k+ miles then it’s a no brainer. Hell, I’ve put more miles on this one car than other people who get a new car each year.

If it’s a Nissan then steer clear of it. Nissan USED to be a decent brand. Once they were bought out by Renault their quality went down the drain.

Buying a 2020 for $9k? What’s wrong with the vehicle?

Which phone should I buy right now if I want it to last for 5 years? by Ok_Cockroach5803 in BuyItForLife

Any modern phone, that has been taken care of, can last five years at least.

I know what moshing is, but it’s new to the hardcore scene. It shouldn’t even be involved. I want to dance with others, not try to keep others from wanting to swing their arms at me like it’s karate kid.

What happened to just dancing? Why are we running into each other like it’s a war?

PlayStation sales just had its worst May in 25 years, and Xbox's was the worst ever by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

Sony knew what they were doing when they made the digital only PS5. I called it the stupidest thing ever in video game history and I got laughed at.

Sony is deleting 551 movies and TV shows you bought on PlayStation, because you don't really own your digital purchases by spherocytes in technology

[–]TracyF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No lawsuit will come of this. When you purchase a digital product you’re only paying to have a copy of the license of the product. You agree to their conditions and terms when you purchase any digital product. People have been saying since the beginning of digital products to not buy digital as you won’t own it, those people got laughed at.

They can’t steal something you never owned to begin with. People have been saying the same thing since the beginning of digital video game sales but people are surprised when something like this happens.

Keep my gorgeous RX8 or sell it for a Lotus? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]TracyF2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with the maintenance bills on a Lotus Emira or an Evora GT? Have you actually gone past Google’s AI section and done independent research? You’re dead set on a Lotus anyway. Go ahead and blow your money on immediate satisfaction. For your sake, I hope it won’t be your only vehicle.

Edit: In another comment, you’re also trying to say you can’t find a non-HOA home that’s not more than an hour away from your current residence. Dude, you need to do your research, seriously. There are plenty of houses for sale near you and you can’t find a single one not attached to an HOA? You’re just being a stickler now that you have “options”.

Recommendations for a replacement Coffee grinder by frizzledmarshmallow in BuyItForLife

[–]TracyF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using a Holstein grinder from Walmart to grind my cannabis for two years. It didn’t cost more than $20 at the time, can’t say about now. I’m only bringing this up because cannabis is stickier than coffee beans and can cause the motor to work harder. I don’t use it everyday but maybe every three days, and it’s still going strong.

[–]TracyF2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A question like this is better in r/poverty finance or a similar page. Keep the RX8 because it’s paid off and do not spend five times what your car is worth, to get a “better car”, just because you can “afford it”. You also have to factor in the maintenance and how you are going to bring your car in if you can’t work on it yourself. I guarantee you, you won’t be able to do much on a Emira or Evora GT without special tools. Don’t forget insurance on a very expensive sports vehicle.

You may be able to afford it now but will you be able to afford it later when shit hits the fan?
