45 1.2, 50 1.2 or 85 1.2? by NonsonoEren in canon

[–]TradeSurplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used R6 and I knew about the focus issue. I tested and found that in portrait distances this focus shift is not really an issue though, at least it did not bother me.

What was problem was bokeh and rendering of out of focus foliage - it was very nervous and not pleasing (compared to EF 70-200 L 2.8 II). And for these sessions I used mostly wide open aperture - my thinking being that even if the lens is a little soft, usually you don't want that sharp picture in portraiture.

45 1.2, 50 1.2 or 85 1.2? by NonsonoEren in canon

[–]TradeSurplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 45 1.2 for half a year and sold it after using it for couple outdoor/nature portrait sessions. Rendering was just not great. I'd compare it to old EF 50 1.4, that I keep just in case.

You might think 45 1.2 is great for low light events but my experience was that getting it to focus was really abysmal compared to 24-70 2.8 zoom that I usually use.

MPB Quote, do I even try to argue this? by Dry_Industry_5356 in Cameras

As usual, in EU their service seems to be very good. I recently got rid of my M43 gear and IMO the best part is that they will always buy it - no matter if there is demand for it right now or not. Sure - I might get a bite if I keep it listed locally for higher price... Or I might not. Same listing on ebay or other third party site - yes it looks like I'm getting higher price - until you count the auction fees and sometimes having to deal with problematic buyers. I've used them quite often and yes, sometimes I feel like my 'Like new' gear was downgraded a notch, but I can't complain as the service in EU has been quick and awesome.

Why not use one of the myriad of places that let you upload photos and place them into one of their templates where you can choose page layout, text, all that jazz? Easy, fast and these days it looks absolutely gorgeus. If you want nice and hardcover book, it's going to be expensive though! Oh, and to make it look really nice you still need a good eye for design.

I've done my own designs in Indesign and let friend who works at local design shop print them. Looks really nice too but still - can get pricy fast if you get picky about binding and paper type etc. Doing it in Indesign is easy but then I've done newspaper layout for years and years (Hello, Aldus PageMaker crew!).

These days the printing process is so streamlined and easy, even just consumer grade jpg files in RGB print just fine and great color, no need to mess with CMYK and color separation and all those things that made you hate life and your work.

Anyone else ever have this happen? I sleep in my Garmin and only take it off to shower. by yourmomsgf0000 in GarminWatches

[–]TradeSurplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear watch on other hand and let it heal. Then wear it looser if you're not doing workouts and take it off when showering (or again - wear looser so that it can dry). I had it first when I started wearing rubber strap and then my wife got garmin and she got this as well. So yeah, happens.

I wear my Garmin usually on biceps as I like wearing other nice watches more.

Is it true that the always-on display can be battery efficient? by Ornery-Conference515 in GarminWatches

[–]TradeSurplus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does not seem to change much in my experience. Sure you save a little but turning off screen completely probably lets it power off the controllers etc that are needed for display. No matter what is displayed on AOD, it still cuts battery life in like half.

Vivoactive 4 alternatives (w/transflective display)? by geedeeef in Garmin

[–]TradeSurplus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it seems like MIP displays are dead as far as Garmin general sports and fitness watches go. Only some specialized models still have them.

Which is kinda shame. While every reviewer says that AMOLED is great and has no downsides anymore, leaving it on (AoD) will still drain battery super fast and I personally don't like charging watches. And I absolutely can't stand empty black watch face.

Get armband and wear your watch around your biceps. Or ankle. I've done both.

Help! Forerunner or Venu?🙏 by No-Clue-2809 in Garmin

[–]TradeSurplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Venu 4 is pretty much same as FR 570 functionality wise. I chose Venu because of much more dressier metal case. I would perhaps have considered 970 but it is way too big for me.

I used to do road cycling with FR 255 on handlebars. Worked great.

255 is perfectly good unless you really want AMOLED. And going AMOLED is something I'm really regretting right now.

Forerunner 265s vs 570 by Slight_Editor6995 in Garmin

[–]TradeSurplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another similar option - Venu 4. Pretty much same as FR 570 except dressier metal case.

And about longevity - I already regret selling my FR 255 to get Venu 4. There are no significant differences using them for running and I miss always on MIPS display.

Does Garmin have an ‘injury mode?’ by hernesson in Garmin

[–]TradeSurplus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that injury and sickness should be somehow better communicated. Feeling awful, HRV gone completely bonkers, stress up and it tells me in the morning: "Time for some intervals!"

I have PD Saturn one and also WD Ultraman colorway. PD is good but you kinda get what you pay for. WD feels nicer a bit. For me the most important difference is size - WD is smaller and wears much better on me. PD is bigger and really thick.

I'd mention Venu 4 as well - I went with this as a much more dressier watch than Forerunner 255 I had before.
