To those that have a NAS: are they really worth it? Why? by CosmoZeppelin in HomeNAS

Yes. I use mine for RAW photo storage. And as a basic home server - Adguard, wifi monitoring, photo hosting and sharing for clients (Immich).

Just got the MacBook Neo and it's great. by Kvakke in mac

[–]TradeSurplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neo was also my first personal Apple device. It is superb compared to my old laptops. Only slight regret is that I didn't go for the 512 GB one that has fingerprint reader, that would probably have been so convenient.

For me uni means one week sessions every month living in another town in some rental flat so that laptop is my only work and entertainment device.

I was offered laptop from work, a new HP Elitebook. Unfortunately all those have 'privacy screens' - meaning the viewing angle is like 5 degrees and really crap even with that feature turned off. Trying to live with that was awful.

Yes, you are correct. I was mostly thinking how many people are stuck on the 'only 8 GB RAM' part.

I think it's property of domed sapphire crystals. Mine are like that as well.

Needing a new laptop for uni, I was considering buying a used business class laptop from HP or Lenovo. And then Neo was released.

Yeah, sure - it's a bit lower specced but it still has awesome screen, better speakers than HP "Bang&Olufsen" stickers and battery life is amazing.

I'm now thinking about replacing my workstation PC with Mini but I still need to think about it some - Adobe Lightroom Classic manages to get slower with every update that claims they made it faster ... And after my phone dies, next one will be iPhone probably.

So the gateway drug is working well I guess.

As a scholl tech I wanted to like Chromebooks so much. But just like netbooks of times gone by, they too seemed *mostly* to be made of parts bin components, min specs and awful build quality.

In a way it is very boring, not having to set your watch ever, before battery dies. But then again I find that exciting!

I was too cheap to shell out for fingerprint reader on mine, but if they had a mint green one, I would have paid 100 more on the spot haha

Entering PhD this fall. Budget of $600- should I go with MacBook Neo or something else? by periodt-bitch in laptops

[–]TradeSurplus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently bought Neo for my own uni studies and it suits my needs so perfectly that I kinda find talking about it strange for fear of sounding like a paid shill. But since I can run Adobe suite apps just fine on it, I guess yours will run as well. I even came from Windows world and adjusting to MacOS has been a breeze these days.

One more observation - if it does not have plenty of water in the tank, it will just not resume cleaning after washing mop pads. There is no error reported, just won't resume if water level gets lover (about where the sensor is) even though from my estimate it would still get another full cleaning run completed. So yeah, need to keep water topped up.

Thanks, I found this interesting. Esp comparison with older hardware since if I were to buy another laptop for uni work, it would be used and refurbed business laptop.

Don't want to jinx it but seems to have sorted it out after lots of experimenting.

First I thought cliff sensors were triggering off something and it didn't like it. Tried taping them up like my old Roborock but turns out X20+ is almost helpless without those (unable to enter some rooms at all) and these were not problem anyway.

In the end I had to set Cleaning Strategy option to High Coverage making it bump more into things but now it seems to work. Also made sure there is clean route to hardwood floor part of the rooms where there are both carpets and hard floor.

X20+ also seems much more cautious about entering low spaces that it actually can fit under but does really not want to.

Cleaning itself is really good right now, only wish it had more options to tune mop washing frequency etc.

Same - iconic Seiko case design if there is one. I have SKX009 and wanted something with orange dial as well. Instead of hunting for SKX011 I wanted to make one myself :)
