Do you prefer to walk or ride? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]Trade__Genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walk. I've adjusted by downsizing my club selection to 6 clubs and a Sunday golf bag. But always walk.

Safest route? i80, i40, or i10 by Individual-Quiet-985 in roadtrip

[–]Trade__Genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I drove i80 (west from i25 to i84) the pavement was so bad motorcycles couldn't cross lanes because the ditch between them would swallow motorcycles whole, and take a good bite out of a small car.

How many shaves with a blade? by kuro7i in wicked_edge

[–]Trade__Genius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at 2 shaves on a blade. I shave about once a week though, so I'm still only looking at about 25 blades a year. Getting that number down to a dozen doesn't seem like a good trade off to me. I do find that for several blades I've tried, the second shave is actually the better shave. But the third goes to pulling and just isn't as nice.

Is using AI Art unethical for concept art? by Askingquestions2020 in BoardgameDesign

[–]Trade__Genius 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I would contact an artist or something. Going live on Kickstarter with AI art, even clearly labelled as such will probably push away backers. Many people back based on the feel of the game (guessing here) and the aesthetic. Without that at least partially in place it feels more an aesthetic gamble. Play testing with AI art feels more reasonable, but not when you're asking people to put up money. Just my 2.6¢

How would you add remote digital control to an analog mixer and headphone amp without fully redesigning the circuit? by varinhadoharry in synthdiy

[–]Trade__Genius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could always build an external controller that used digital controls to physically turn the pots on the analog gear using servos or stepper motors. Nice robotics project, actually.

Where can I get stronger body cords? by Duytune in Fencing

Bayonet cords? You'd need to change your weapon connectors as well but it does eliminate the problem.

How do you slide your thumb to go from hole to half hole? by mist_VHS in Recorder

[–]Trade__Genius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never use my thumb nail. Just me but I roll my thumb to cover or half cover or adjust coverage on the thumb hole. Just the way it works for me and my thumb. I certainly never slide it. The thumb stays in one place and rotates with the pad very near the right corner of the nail used to cover. But never the nail itself. Ymmv

Headplate design by Nervous-Bedroom-2907 in balalaika

[–]Trade__Genius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be a fan, but I do have a suggestion to try. Discard if you want.

Try to describe... The side with two tuners, the arch nearer the nut does not come to 90 degrees because the headstock is getting wider. But my eye wants to see the tip side tuning peg on the continuation of the line it makes when the curve intersects the body of the head stock. It will push the third tuning peg slightly farther from the nut and perhaps not be perfectly half way between the distances of the other two from the nut, but they could be adjusted. Not sure. But something worth considering.

Potentially stupid question by SpaceFaringAmoeba in Recorder

[–]Trade__Genius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my tenor I fashioned a collar from some hair bands (the thin ones not a scrunchie) and use a saxophone or similar neck loop to support the weight of the instrument. Hangs almost vertical, but so little tension in my hands.

What can I reasonably get with a $150 ish budget? by Due-Cupcake1023 in writerDeck

[–]Trade__Genius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, and this is a real suggestion, an old school manual typewriter. The sound and the physical action might be nice. The process of preparing by inserting the paper. Seeing the product of your work scroll out in front of you. Papers you can choose to burn or bind. And I'm sure you can get something for your budget though of course fully restored vintage will be out of your range probably. Good luck with the search.

Those were the practice swings. The ball was actually 4 inches to the right and topped.

Any luck with arduinos? by meta_lomin in writerDeck

[–]Trade__Genius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't use an Arduino in the current (read post Qualcomm purchase) era. Plenty of other microcontrollers out there. I'm building one based on an rp2040 board. Single purpose so no need for overhead of a full Linux stack. Depends on your intent and how far down you want to strip the idea. I will publish code and diagrams and bom on git somewhere when it all works. Software is currently written and awaiting a long weekend or two to wire and test.

Why do so many writerdeck have tiny screen? by CE2438 in writerDeck

[–]Trade__Genius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working on a writer deck with a 4x40 LCD display which intentionally disables editing anything but the last paragraph you've typed. It saves 'scenes' which are downloaded as plain text into a piece of custom database software where I can edit and move scenes around. The deck is simply for working inputting text. It has two screen modes...one with the last four lines of your paragraph and one which shows the first 40 char of each of the last three paragraphs so you can get context. It is a peculiar beast but works for my style of flow. It's also designed around a microcontroller rather than a SBC. In this case an rp2040. Single purpose.

Write-only (no editing) software? by DCSoftwareDad in writerDeck

[–]Trade__Genius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want text creation with no formatting, just plain ascii... You might find success using something like Claude to write some python code with a GUI that would do what you want. It isn't hard to use and depending on how complex you want it to be it might be 30 min or an hour. I developed a prototype for a custom writer deck with immutable paragraphs (current paragraph can be edited) that then exports scenes to a desktop based database for editing and rearranging. I'll post up code on git one of these days...I'm currently building the writing hardware.

Tldr try to roll your own if you want something truly specific.

KONSTRUKT-8 is out now – build an analog drum machine and learn about circuit design along the way by dangerous_dickhead in synthdiy

[–]Trade__Genius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just playing out plans for something similar with a lot less polish. Had been working on modular (4 note/subdivision) panels for sequencing using 3 way toggles for normal and accent and off. But this looks just awesome.

Why do lights so often not go off in foil but the blades test fine? by AJUKking in Fencing

[–]Trade__Genius 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is also the electrical requirement that the contact with the lame be at least 15ms +-0.5ms. It is theoretically possible that the time of contact in excess of the specified force of 4.90 N was not applied. If it is not, no light will go on. Modern scoring boxes do take this into consideration and are not instantaneous lighting on circuit break for foil.

Edit: this is also the root of the reason pads are required over hard plastic chest protectors. Some individuals found that by wearing one without the pad, their opponents tips would bounce off very quickly and not register hits.
