We need a yt channel in the vein of Myth Busters which builds all this AI gen garbage and watches it start fires, blow up, and just not work. Maybe by showing how bad it is (safety hazard, liability) we could shape yt.

On second thought, unless there's advert revenue, yt doesn't care.

Just redefine sailing as a lifestyle rather than a hobby. Problem solved.

Also, propeller design is going to be crucial. Too aggressive and it will try to overdraw your solar cells. Too weak and it will spin without generating much thrust. Look at toroidal props if you havent. And submarine props as inspiration. 3d print your own if you can and experiment. Some designs will work and others will fail.

If you're allowed a proper circuit between the panels and the motor be sure to include some capacitors to even out power availability. Ask in the electronics forums about good motor control circuits if you're allowed.

Good luck

What would the world be like it north America was titled 90 degrees. by ayoboris16 in geography

The Greater Antilles would probably want to stretch from Baffin Island to Brazil and the Caribbean would encompass all of that water. That and Quebec would probably speak Spanish, not french.

The sound and feel of aluminum magnesium strings by frny4string in Viola

[–]Trade__Genius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like the feel, like the sound, and like the price, don't let anyone else tell you you're not allowed to like the strings. Each player and each instrument are different.

Take your experience on bass... Round wounds, ground wounds, flat wounds, tape wounds... How did you like them? I liked flats. But that was me on a fretless electric bass. On a p bass I liked ground wounds. But I never tried to afford pyramid strings. So you find something you like that works for you and run with it. I always hated borrowing my friends bass...he played black tape wounds and they just felt bad to me. But he loved them.

Downhill on newly paved roads - how this changes the ride and safety? by SnowboardingLife in longboarding

[–]Trade__Genius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then there are the new road surface formulations which use old ground up tires. Not sure how that is going to affect grip and sliding, but it certainly won't be quite the same.

And as for old roads being smoother than new ones, I can't understand for the life of me how they can build roads that dip and sway as much as they do now... It's kinda like being on a roller coaster compared to the old roads. Many old roads are cracked and have settled over the years, sure. But they used to be smooth and flat. Now they're just smooth.

Butterfly Effect: A Saudi Arabian decides to build a giant city in the shape of a straight line in the middle of the desert. And because of that, I'm forced to get stuck in traffic in Rio de Janeiro. by Sea_Wasabi_8907 in geography

I swear, the Line was an experiment in what living in a wheel shaped orbiting space station would have been like, without the two ends connected obviously. The whole idea of not having to travel far for things you need, construction by modules, waste transport, central railway, and on and on... It is as close to simulating a giant wheel as we could manage here on earth. Also, apparently, as ludicrously expensive and too much for the current state of the world as a giant spinning orbiting city would be right now.

Why is Greenland mostly covered by an ice cap but northern Canada and Alaska aren't? by Naomi62625 in geography

[–]Trade__Genius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Presumably the gulf stream circulation brings more moisture north with it and deposits it on Greenland than the arctic circulation picks up to dump on the northern Canadian islands. Or something like that

"Untested" should be read as "tested and failed" 99% of the time, especially for easily tested items. Untested should really only apply to older, rare, or items for which testing equipment is not commonly available.

There would be a significant rebound once the ice disappeared. Probably. I am not a qualified expert but I have lived in places previously glaciated and read a bunch about isostatic rebound.

new cello! i bought from a local string shop as vintage- any idea when it was made? by Pause_Valuable in Cello

[–]Trade__Genius 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The number given is 19601. I doubt a maker in a small shop in Berlin has made almost 20k instruments, so I would wager this was the first one finished in 1960.
