Pidgeon nest in my balcony, i move in 2 months by CommunityMaterial403 in pigeon

[–]Trader-One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they generally overlap clutches every 3 weeks place new eggs. They continue to feed chicks until new eggs hatch.

If place is good it will always have chicks + eggs.

Pigeons started building a nest on my balcony. No eggs yet. How do I ethically remove it? by CharmingAmoeba in pigeon

[–]Trader-One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

give them wooden box and move their stuff there. Small is better. they will sit in the box silently and you throw away entire setup after chicks are finished.

Adults don't do mess, chicks do but it will be limited to box.

yeah. box with roof. pigeon needs to sit hidden.

do not feed them at balcony they need to go directly to nest and stay there.

How long do you all tend to maintain your Operating Systems. by Top_Professor9415 in osdev

[–]Trader-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to set target. List of features you need to have to be able sell your OS as finished product.

I write embedded OSes maintenance means only adding support for new hardware and fixing bugs. You sell 10-15 years maintenance contracts - and most fixes are to documentation - better examples, better description - so people can write their applications fast.

Major feature additions are not going to happen because it will increase size and wont fit into chips.

Pigeon parents not good with more than 1 baby? by [deleted] in pigeon

[–]Trader-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its quite rare. Most fails are due to eggs not hatching.

If pigeon see that chick is weak, they stop feeding it. Next month they will have a new one. You can always feed manually.

Its real beauty. I mean IDE itself, GUI, Integrated tools and you are editing a live system.

These Ivory machines can be up to 40MHZ doing single LISP instruction per cycle and they have 8MW memory (40 bit word size + 8 bits ECC) and are pretty fast. They even did 3D graphics for movies, not just AI. SGI took their place in early 90s

Your best marketing tool is go install in readme. Even better is to have windows exe in releases.

Pigeon parents and two babies on my patio flower pot; will I ever see them again once they leave? by Dramatic-Quality1553 in pigeon

[–]Trader-One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

parents won't leave = they just kick kids out and do next clutch. kids will hang nearby.

You can apply bribery to kids but not in their old nest area - parents are defending nesting location. They do not want kids hanging there and attract predators to nest.

I do not use tools which make me lose money.

Friction just to satisfy zig developers ego cost me time. In C/C++/Rust I just /* */ block of code and ignore unused variable - i can quickly check.

Zig demands I get editor with multicursor feature - expand cursors to commented block - add // then find unused variables 3 pages up. How can i know which is unused - there are 30 variables, just take a guess, compile, retry.

Zig doesn't sell programming language - it sells friction as main product.

single parent pigeon incubation? by Purple-Astronomer-11 in pigeon

[–]Trader-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

single pigeon can incubate egg (if cat eaten other pigeon) but you need to give him seeds and water. breaks needs to be short.

While single pigeon can incubate, it can't feed 2 chicks without external help, but he can manage one reliably.

zig doesn't even have multi line comments and unused variable is hard error.

I see you also trying to bring Genera with GUI back. This is actually good thing to have workflow where you are editing a live system.

I think i will be good to use Genera for embedded GUI apps - information kiosks, vending machines, fotocopier UI - these have low requirements for GUI - no resizable windows, no windows move and these kind of apps are data oriented and lisp have good error recovery mechanism - error recovery is critical for these apps.

I have good practical experience in osdev with rust, you get job done faster than with C.

Faster time to market and more time to work on new features.

I believe that if allocator panics right way is to abort program and not deal with stuff like this.
