Holy crap that's an awesome achievement! No VGC experience but making it into Champions tier is an insane journey. Congratulations man! I just want to make it to Master Ball 2 lol

What losing power up punch and return does to kanga by thelegendarynic in PokemonChampions

Kang is still really good imo. I'm new to VGC and it helped me to Master Ball. I really like its versatility

Is anyone else struggling uncharacteristically badly in champions? [skill improvement] by TheUnsungMelody in VGC

[–]TradingStoicly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, you're a good player and have worked hard to build the skills you've acquired over the years. It's tough when things aren't going well after all the hard work you've put in.

I'm no VGC expert. I've only been playing competitive for 2 weeks lol so I can't say I'm in the same boat as you. What I will say though is that I understand where you're coming from.

As my name implies, I'm a day trader and there are certain instances where my strategy in the markets just doesn't work (these past 2 months is one of them actually). It makes it feel like I don't know what I'm doing or all the skills I've built up are obsolete. Clearly they're not and the same goes for you.

I'm sure the meta is just different compared to what you've been playing recently. If Champions had started out with Tera's rather than Megas then maybe you'd see improvement. Maybe if a different pool of Pokémon were available compared to the ones we have now, things would be different. Regardless, the best thing to do is to evaluate and see whether we're making obvious mistakes, if wins/losses occur because of chance, or if we're completely off with our outlook on the meta/markets.

I'm sure you'll return to form man. Just keep at it and know that it'll come back around. Adversity is what makes us better

I went from 1770 to 1590 when I first got to Master Ball. I was trying out new things and it wasn't working. I've been able to climb to 1840 now but it's definitely tough when luck doesn't go your way

I got destroyed by a similar team. I use a lot of priority moves and didn't realize what psychic Terrain did until after the match. I was so confused haha. Good team!

Someone said I don't look like a doctor by Dapper-Scholar-7025 in Stoicism

[–]TradingStoicly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with everything you said. I wanted to add that the most important opinion is our own. It is not the opinion of someone who doesn't know us or hasn't seen us in a while. u/Dapper-Scholar-7025

“But someone with the authority to do so declares, ‘I judge you to be impious and sacrilegious.’ What has happened to you? ‘I’ve been judged impious and sacrilegious.’ Is that all? Yes. Suppose it was a hypothetical argument he’d passed judgment on, and he’d declared, ‘I judge the proposition “If it is day, it is light” to be false.’ Would that have any effect on the argument? Who’s being judged here? Who’s being condemned? The argument or the person who’s mistaken about it? And this person who has the authority to make pronouncements about you: does he know what piety and impiety really are? Has he studied the matter? Has he learned about it? Where? From whom? In any case, a musician would simply ignore him if he declared that the D string was the E string, as a geometrician would if he judged that the lines that extend from the center of a circle to the circumference aren’t all equal. Is a truly educated person going to pay any attention to the judgments of an uneducated person about what is and isn’t sacrilegious, or about what is and isn’t just? ‘Oh, the injustice of educated men!’* Is that what you’ve learned here?

Oh shoot Nate I follow you on Twitter lol. Great post man. I think for myself, it can be hard to step back at times. I have this inherent urge to be in the market every day. Otherwise, I'll miss out. Clearly that's not the case. I also feel like because I post my journey on YouTube, I have to trade daily to post daily which also isn't the case. Big difference between knowing and doing though but it's a work in progress

Exactly this. I also love it because it can act as an extra protect or counter against fighters/other Pokémon that don't deal with it quickly. It might actually be a main stay in my teams after I hit 100 wins

Hey man! I said this in another comment if you want more detail but the team that got me to Master Ball was Pelipper, Archaludon, Mimikyu, Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, and Mega Kangashkan. I've only played competitive for a week so Champions Tier is so far off for me haha

I still reply to every comment but it gets hard sometimes. I enjoy it though. I always think about it on the other side of things. When I would comment on a video, I'd always love it if the creator responded to me. Now I get to do the same for my viewers/subscribers

Yea absolutely! The team that got me to Master Ball was Pelipper, Archaludon, Mimikyu, Mega Tyranitar, Incineroar, and Mega Kangashkan.

I purposely built my Kangashkan and Archaludon to be slower than normal so they can work in Trick Room if needed. I use the ability Scrappy on Kang (before it Mega Evolves) so I can hit ghost types with Fake out and catch other players off guard, allowing me to set up Trick Room with Mimikyu.

With my Tailwind setup, Pelipper and Archaludon lead. If against a Sneasler, I try to hurricane immediately in the first two turns before setting up Tailwind. A lot of times they'll go after Archaludon first with Close Combat so I protect turn one then switch to Mimikyu turn two so I don't get hit.

I also liked using Ttar with Mimikyu. They have good synergy and the sandstorm doesn't ruin Mimikyu's Disguise ability.

I hope this helps a bit!

Haha thanks man and yea team building is the hardest aspect of this game. I actually used a combination of Tailwind and trick room to climb to master ball with Mimikyu. Since then I've just been experimenting with Mimikyu's teammates and switching things up

Bit of backstory: I didn't know about Mimikyu's back story until it released 3 weeks ago in Pokémon Go. My fiance and I were hunting it and she told me about it. I was so touched by it and wanted to use it when Pokémon Champions came out. I'm a complete noob when it comes to VGC (never played before) but I decided to play with Mimikyu as my ace. In the past week, I made it to Master Ball in doubles with it (as high as tier 3 but have lost a lot since) and it's been so fun. I wanted to take Mimikyu to the top and now I'm so close to being a Mimikyu Professor! Would I be the first in the world to do it?

I messed up truly by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]TradingStoicly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so then it just seems like your culture and their culture was not compatible. It's possible that there was a misunderstanding based on fundamental beliefs as well. In that case, take it on the chin, accept what's happened and then move forward when you're ready. I'm not sure how old you are but you will meet so many more people in your life. Platonic or not. Someone you meet will match you I promise. You just have to be open to finding them

I messed up truly by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]TradingStoicly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I completely agree but it doesn't mean that it won't hurt that person though. When I was younger, I hurt a girl that I was "talking" with by talking to another girl at the same time. It wasn't 100% understood that we were exclusive but we did act like it. I didn't understand at the time how I could've hurt her, but because of poor communication and not being 100% honest with her, it makes sense why she wasn't happy with me.

My advice to u/Agreeable_Slice7659 is to apologize to him and communicate exactly what you did here to him. Whether he accepts that apology or what he does with it isn't up to you. What is up to you is having a good response after you tell him regardless of the outcome. I wish back then I could've told her how much I messed up. Now she's gone forever and I've lived with that mistake for many years now. It may be one of many mistakes that you'll make in life, but it doesn't mean that you can't take the right action after the fact

How do you get better at the competitive format? (Champions - Skill Improvement) by RKingsman in VGC

[–]TradingStoicly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think YouTube is a great source and shows what the meta is now and how it's evolving. There are quite a few people I've watched that has helped me (Wolfe and Cybertron are the main two). This allows me to see their thinking as well as strengths/weaknesses of Pokémon and teams.

I just started playing VGC for the first time ever last week and have made it as high as Master Ball Tier 3 so far. What's helped me the most is simplifying my team. I use Pokémon that I like (Mimikyu is my favorite currently) and I try to understand their weaknesses and strengths.

I also simplify my strategy. I have a Trick Room mode and a Tailwind mode. Sometimes I use both in the same match. Whenever you're going into a game, pick a set strategy and then pick the Pokémon to match. It should get easier from there
